August 9th is "National Book Day", and a great reason to start a new book or re-read a favorite.
 
My favorite reads are mysteries, biographies, new science studies and classic fiction. For example, every year I re-read Little Women, Jane Eyre and A Christmas Carol
 
Whether it takes the form of a comic, a paper book, e-book or audio book, "reading a book" can provide entertainment, escape and even education.
 
Silicon Valley is blessed with dynamic libraries and bookstores, as well as many avid readers.

Who loves enjoys reading books? August 9th is "National Book Day", which is a great excuse to pick up a new read. Whether it's a manga comic, a paper book, e-book or audio book, reading provides entertainment, escape and even education.
 
Silicon Valley is home to numerous vibrant libraries and local bookstores, as well as Book Clubs and Reading Groups.
 
Besides the San Jose Public Library, Santa Clara Public Library and Santa Clara County Library District, superb independent bookstores to patronize include Recycle Bookstore in Campbell and San Jose, and Hicklebee's Children's Bookstore in Willow Glen.

Summer 2019 is the year of the books as the Santa Clara County Library System sets a goal for patrons to read 200,000 books this season. The Santa Clara County Library System serves Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Saratoga and many other towns and cities in the County. Library cards and participation are free to residents in the cities served.
To participate, just join It's Showtime @ Your Library and be a part of the SCCLD community of readers, reading 200,000 BOOKS together. Register online at https://sccl.beanstack.org/reader365.

Here's some good local news.
The award-winning Santa Clara County Library system has selected five new books to read and discuss for Silicon Valley Reads 2017.  
One is for children, Bear and Bee by Sergio Ruzzier.
Two are for teens, Rikers High and Black And White, both by Paul Volponi.
The last two are for adults Unfair: the New Science of Criminal Injustice by Adam Benforado, and Writing My Wrongs: Life, Death, and Redemption in An American Prison by Shaka Senghor.
