Closing with Baby... - 01/31/11 07:13 PM
Selling or buying a home certainly has its challenges for kids. At our Eastlake office we see a lot of young families around the closing table with small children.
Last Friday was no exception. A small boy about 4 years old and his little baby sister in a stroller, neither were very happy at the idea of hanging out, being quiet, with nothing to do while mom and dad sign a humongous pile of paper work to purchase their new home.
We have a box of toys for the kids, but it never fails they gravitate to the white board.I love … (16 comments)

Actual Brain Scan of RE Barcamp Seattle Attendee - 01/30/11 07:53 PM
I was working on a few projects this weekend for the upcoming RE Barcamp Seattle 2011. Rummaging through some folders from last year's event, I forgot I had this rare copy of an attendee's brain scan after the RE Barcamp Seattle in March of 2010...
(The participant respectfully wanted to remain anonymous, I agreed.)

At a synapse, the plasma membrane of the signal-passing neuron (the presynaptic neuron) comes into close apposition with the membrane of the target (postsynaptic) cell. Both the presynaptic and postsynaptic sites contain extensive arrays of molecular machinery that link the two membranes together … (7 comments)

Think Big, Work Small... Northwest Video Marketing Summit - 01/29/11 12:30 PM
Have you watched Frank and Brian in the Think Big, Work Small videos? Besides being hilarious, they bring a lot of leading edge market information and issues to light. Up until recently they focused their attention on lending. This year they're embracing the real estate community and have a lot of great ideas and resources for both.
If  you're thinking about jumping into video blogging in 2011, or you already use video in your blogs, you won’t want to miss this event on March 2, 2011 at the Seattle Center - Rainier Rooms.

But what the heck is a un-conference? - 01/28/11 02:32 PM
A client asked me the other day about RE Barcamp. The concern was, as the topic was framed, “Aren’t you guys competing with Raincamp and Agent REBoot?
Answer: No, not at all.
Raincamp and Agent REBoot are conferences, and they’re both excellent.
RE Barcamp is an “un-conference”
But what the heck is a “un-conference?”
RE Barcamp is not a conference or a seminar. There is no list of headlining social media stars giving presentations on the latest new wave of lead capture topics. You don’t come to REBC to hear a presentation from an expert to learn their method. There won’t … (8 comments)

You gotta love Social Media. Someday's it's just magical, like today. - 01/21/11 10:58 PM
What a great Friday... a perfect way to wind up the week. I'm headed over the Narrows Bridge this morning to spend the day with Amy Kalafatich (my coworker at The Talon Group) in Gig Harbor, one of my favorite towns in the Pacific Northwest.
You gotta love Social Media. Someday's it's just magical, like today.
We started the day off at Borders Books for a meet and coffee with Matt Morgan, Windermere Real Estate Gig Harbor. Matt and I found each other on Twitter and have been tweetin' back and forth for a couple of months or so.
And now we're … (12 comments)

Sometimes, a lousy picture is a great place to start. - 01/21/11 10:19 AM
Sometimes, a lousy picture is a great place to start. One of my favorite channels of creative expression is digital painting. When I'm out and about shooting random pictures with my Blackberry, most of them don't turn out (well as pictures anyway).
A few comments I've received of late are concerned about me driving and taking pictures. Let me assure you my eyes are on the road. I literally just hold up my Blackberry and fire off several pictures hoping I get what I'm glancing at while driving. I'm not looking at what the camera is looking at, my eyes are … (8 comments)

Sunshine, On My Shoulder - 01/19/11 10:16 PM
Over the hump it's Wednesday and a beautiful winter morning it is. The sky is blue and that floating almost mushroom like column of cloud structure rising in the background is right over downtown Seattle.

Not too many photo opportunities, I'm driving after all. I love it when there's enough clear sky to the east in the morning that sunrise peaks over the Cascades and reflects off the buildings downtown.

From my office at The Talon Group on Eastlake Ave E. Just one more look south at the morning sky and downtown Seattle.

The first song that came … (6 comments)

BVI Sunset - warm thoughts on a cold wet afternoon - 01/17/11 06:35 PM

I was day dreaming earlier, "Wouldn't be nice to be back on that sailboat in the British Virgin Islands again." It's been cold, windy and rainy all weekend and several rivers around these parts are flooding and/or close to it. click the image for full size version on my Picasa web album

Some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen were here in the BVI. I think much of it is the sky is so big and you can see for miles and miles until it disappears over the horzion.

The 12th Man - 01/15/11 04:14 PM
Out and about Friday morning shooting video for the RE Barcamp Seattle event. Headed back to my office about 11:30 AM. It's a rainy nasty gray morning, but the traffic is moving... well, until I get downtown when it comes to a halt.
Something is going on just past the Olive St. exit and the right lane is closed. Great, so we're all trying to move over to the left. Inching along at about 1 mile an hour just before the Convention Center I happen to look up at the 2 Union Square building...

Right on! No rainy day is … (6 comments)

I'm Going: Reason #2 RE Barcamp Seattle - 01/11/11 11:33 PM
I never said anything about being linear. I never promised that so I'm starting off with Reason #2. Why? Because I like it better than Reason #1 right now. It's my blog and I can do whatever I want to. I'm revising Reason #1 because it just didn't quite live up to my standards of buzz. Not in the way I felt Reason #2 did.
#1 just didn't express the relevance, the awesomeness, the all encompassing ubertastical amazing magical relevance of being with @ 500 super passionate (forward thinking real estate professionals) who get together on a day to experience the … (9 comments)

The 520 Bridge, Tolls coming this Spring 2011 - 01/08/11 02:47 PM
I was driving back to the office from Ballard Friday afternoon (January 7, 2011) from the RE Barcamp Seattle planning meeting. We've got some great things happening in and around the event which is coming up this March 3rd. It should be one of the best BarCamps ever in Seattle. (More on this later.)

I was reminded by the sign above that the 520 Bridge over Lake Washington to the Eastside will start charging a toll this Spring. Before that happens there will be a number of closures for construction. I hope, because of the economy, that commuters won't just … (4 comments)

RE BarCamp Seattle 2011 - 01/04/11 10:01 PM
After a meeting with my friends Jim Reppond of eXp Realty, Rhonda Porter @mortgageporter, and Aubrey Cohen of the Seattle PI last week about the upcoming RE BarCamp in Seattle, March 3, 2011. I'm reminded of how cool this neighborhood is. We're on Northlake Way in Seattle (on Lake Union). Jim's new eXp office is just behind me across the street and what a cool space it is. That's the Aurora Bridge you see in the upper right. I love this perspective of the nautical seaport town, Seattle.

I choosed me a seat n' watched the evenin' sun go down - 01/04/11 06:29 PM
In the summer of 1982 I was very involved in a number of projects at Cornish Institute (now College of the Arts), And/Or, Soundwork, KRAB FM, and other venues around Seattle with different groups of musicians, poets, dancers and theater people. We were all preparing for Autumn performances.
I missed most of that summer spending my time indoors at Soundwork Studio and rehearsal halls. It was a grueling schedule. I maxed out one afternoon and headed down to the Seattle waterfront. I sat there for a couple of hours by myself enjoying the sweet self indulgence of solitary moments. My ears … (6 comments)
