Real estate values are up again in Newfoundland?  A recent BusinessWeek headline about real estate values in Canada reports that new-home prices rose 0.4 percent in January from the previous month, the seventh straight gain. 
The data, taken from Statistics Canada, shows that St. John's, Newfoundland was leading the way with the new house price index gaining 1.7 percent.  After St. Johns came a 0.7 percent increase in Winnipeg, Manitoba.   
Canada's mortgage rates are close to the lowest since the Korean War.  Its no wonder home sales and prices indexes have been spurred upward.  The country is slowly emerging from a recession but evidentally the real estate market … (2 comments)

Newfoundland home prices have advanced substantially from one year ago.  When comparing average home prices to the end of February 2009 with those of other provinces in Canada, Newfoundland ranks 5thlowest.  However, statistics from the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) show that the average price of a home one year ago placed Newfoundland 3rd lowest in the country.  Apparently we jumped two places in the last 12 months.  That tells you a bit about our market for home buying in 2008.  It was very competitive.

newfoundland real estate: Major Real Estate Development St. John’s East, Newfoundland - One Step Closer - 03/11/09 01:04 PM
Canada Lands Corp., a federal Crown corporation owns 65 acres of prime real estate in the St. John's east end.  The Pleasantville site which was developed as a US military base in the early 1940s is about to be redeveloped for residential homes, condominiums and apartments.  There will be up to 1000 housing units in the development when it is complete.
The St. John's city council approved the development on Monday March 9th and all that remains now is for the provincial government to give approval.  This will undoubtedly be forth coming in due course.  I am expecting the site … (2 comments)
