I don't know exactly when it happened. I signed up for the Tennessean newspaper at the grocery store one day, helping out a fellow self-employed independent contractor. I started my subscription about the time that I started this 30 day blogging challenge. I have found that I enjoy reading the actual newspaper now. I spend so much time looking at a computer screen that my eyes need the rest. The Mall at Green Hills in Nashville will welcome Burberry, Lacoste, and Juicy Couture this year as these luxury retailers open their first stores in Tennessee. Burberry will open a 4,500 square foot store in April 2008. Lacoste's March 2008 opening will showcase its 1,703 square foot boutique. Juicy Couture's 3,074 square foot store is scheduled to open in September 2008. Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers, which are also located in The Mall at Green Hills, will be moving to larger mall locations in 2008 as well.

The Nashville residential market has seen the number of foreclosures more than double in the past year. From the third quarter of 2006 to the third quarter of 2007, there were 2,118 foreclosures in the eight-county metropolitan Nashville area. This is up a little more than double from the 1,045 foreclosures in the third quarter of 2006. These numbes were also up 12 percent from the second quarter of 2007. Tennessee ranks 12th in the nation for foreclosures. Williamson County has the lowest foreclosure rate with one filing for every 530 families while Rutherford County (with the largest concentration in Lavergne, TN) … (1 comments)

The Bellevue Center Mall has been sold to a California firm, Foursquare Properties, for $28 million dollars. Foursquare plans to transform the mall into an open-air lifestyle center with major retail anchors. There are plans are six restaurants and office and retail space to be developed. Macy's department store will remain at the site.

The downtown condo craze has spread from Nashville all the way down I-24 to Murfreesboro. Plans have been presented by a California-based development firm to build a six story tall building in downtown Murfreesboro that would include 46 condos, a three-level parking garage, and 8,850 square feet of commercial space. Majestic Development, the development firm, paid $550,000 in 2006 for the property at 315 W. Main Street. The building located on the site collapsed during a thunderstorm last year. Majestic has chosen Nashville-based Gresham Smith and Partners to develop the building's design.
