Registration begins at 11 a.m., with bowling at noon. Cost is $25 in advance or at the door, but bowlers who pre-register will receive a free T-shirt.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The Horses and Horsepower Car Show will be held in conjunction with the bowling tournament. Yes, this is my church and I am a bit biased! You won't find a nicer group of people. All ages, married, singles, lots of children and youth from the nursery to high school. Tons of lifegroups that will connect you into a network of support and friendships. Today, I served with other church members for our monthy visits to a senior nursing home. Each month we go for birthday celebrations and bring gifts, cake and music.......Funny I should say music because our church is known for music. If you like contemporary Christian music, then you have found the right place.Tom Allen, our pastor offers contemporary sermons and he is not afraid to tell us the truth and to speak the word of God from the Bible.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This is our story&amp;nbsp; in a nutshell:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In 1996, Tom Allen, his wife Susan, and their four children moved to Pearland, TX. Shortly after the move, two things happened: They fell in love with Pearland and became immersed in its life and its people, and, Tom began to experience some challenging health concerns. Although these two things seemed totally unrelated, they were intricately intertwined in God's plan.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In late 1998, during a time that Tom had taken off to recuperate and spend time with God, God challenged him with his greatest test of faith. While he had his undivided attention, He asked Tom to leave his "safety zone" and plant a new church in Pearland.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In May of 1999, Crosspoint Fellowship held its first worship service at Sablatura Middle School. Many thought they would immediately build a building and didn't realize how much work a church plant would be. Every week during those three years they faithfully loaded and unloaded a Ryder truck with everything it takes to have a worship service. During those years, they changed locations four times before finally finding and purchasing 15 acres of land that they now call our home. The first service in their new building was on April 28, 2002.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Since that time, Crosspoint Fellowship has become a church that sees approximately 500 people gather each week to worship. God has given them an exciting history, and they believe He has only begun to show them the great things He has in store for their future.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I INVITE YOU TO MY CHURCH.       <description>&lt;p&gt;In 2007, Forbes Magazine ranked Pearland as the 34th fastest growing suburb in the nation. It is therefore the fastest growing suburb in the Greater Houston area, and the 10th fastest growing in the state of Texas.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I remember when Broadway was a two lane road growing up in Pearland. It has changed so much.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;Pearland had its humble beginnings near a siding switch on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway in 1882. When a post office was established in 1893, the community was originally named Mark Belt. The name was changed to Pearland in November of that year because of the abundance of pear trees in the community. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Pearland was promoted by some developers as an "agricultural Eden." The Galveston hurricane of 1900 destroyed most of the fruit trees and slowed growth for a considerable period of time, as well as desertificated the area. In 1914, with agriculture rebounding and the end of desertification, Pearland had a population of 400, but a devastating freeze in 1918 was another setback to the local farming enterprises. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Oil was discovered nearby in 1934, though this did not spur a large amount of growth, as the population fluctuated from 150 and 350. From the 1960's the town has grown steadily to today's population. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Today even though officially a suburb, the town is culturally rural.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas" title="Texas"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Flood meeting a success - Southbelt &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Area residents get behind Corps' plan&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;More than 100 concerned residents attended the Clear Creek drainage improvement meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21.&amp;nbsp;The discussion included representatives from both the Harris County Flood Control District and the Army Corps of Engineers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Although many in attendance were concerned about their specific needs, the main topic for the evening was the corps' long-range plan to construct a local watershed, an area where all water running off the land drains to a specific location. The proposal, referred to as the National Economic Development (NED) Alternative, would require that all in the area (17 cities and four counties) agree on the project. For the most part, those at the meeting were overwhelmingly in favor of the plan.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The project would include major improvements to both Mud Gully and Turkey Creek. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mud Gully, located between Sagedowne and Astoria, would be expanded to 45 feet in bottom width and be lined with concrete. Additionally, its offline detention center would be increased in size to 1,550 acre-feet.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Turkey Creek, which runs from Dixie Farm Road to Clear Creek, would also be increased in size. Its bottom width would be increased to 20 to 25 feet, and its length would be increased to 2.5 miles.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The proposed changes, officials said, would save the area millions of dollars over time. Such changes, however, would require large amounts of capital.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Despite limited funding from Harris, Galveston and Brazoria counties, such an undertaking would require substantial federal support.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Rep. Nick Lampson, who was in attendance at the meeting, said he intended to assist in this matter.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Regardless of funding concerns, officials said 2010 would be the earliest construction would begin on the NED plan.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;Straight from the state's website.......&lt;/em&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Sales Tax Holiday&lt;br&gt;August 17-19, 2007&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The annual sales tax holiday for clothes and shoes has changed to the third Friday, Saturday and Sunday in August.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;This year, for the first time, school backpacks that cost less than $100 may be purchased tax-free.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 17, 18, and 19 - the state's annual tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt. A backpack is a pack with straps one wears on the back. The new exemption during the sales tax holiday includes backpacks with wheels, provided they can also be worn on the back like a traditional backpack, and messenger bags. The exemption does not include items that are reasonably defined as luggage, briefcases, athletic/duffle/gym bags, computer bags, purses or framed backpacks.       <description>&lt;p&gt;I sat and listened to a self professed "brainiac" the other day talk about the rising number of foreclosures. The conversation was innocent enough, but he then started to tell me how undisciplined "these people" are/were and basically it was their fault.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Maybe your experience is different, but MINE says MOST of these FAMILIES hit some hard times. MOST of these FAMILIES thought they were getting a pretty good deal two&amp;nbsp;or three years ago. MOST are struggling and honest and decent poeple.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When you&amp;nbsp;PRAY today/tonight, please lift up these FAMILIES who are facing foreclosure. PRAY&amp;nbsp;for the mothers, fathers and their children.       <description>&lt;p&gt;As part of ongoing efforts to better communicate with his constituents, Rep. Nick Lampson hosted Congress at Your Corner at Almeda Mall on Saturday, July 7.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The congressman, who represents the 22nd District once served by Tom DeLay, spoke on issues ranging from the war in Iraq to immigration. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Many South Belt residents will be glad to know that Lampson vowed to fight to maintain a Texas Air National Guard presence at Ellington Field, citing that recent construction of a joint military reserve base at the site gives him hope that the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure's recommendations will be reconsidered. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The controversial BRAC plan essentially removes the 147th Fighter Wing from the base, a decision to which Lampson takes exception. "There needs to be a presence (of aircraft) that can be scrambled to patrol the ship channel and other areas of concern," the congressman said.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Lampson also noted the importance of the Guard maintaining control of the area along the coastline. "We need to protect the training airspace above the Gulf of Mexico," he said, adding that if the 147th is removed, the airspace in question will fall into private hands, likely to never return.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;THANK YOU FOR VOTING TO KEEP THE GUARD!&lt;/p&gt;</description>
