ct: THE DIFFERENCE IS UNDENIABLE - 04/24/12 12:39 PM
We get so busy at times and somehow for some families; their home get lost (and neglected) in all the business of life.
This family called me right before their youngest was about to graduate high school and the wife had moved ahead to start a new job. The husband was left with getting the house ready for sale so they could join her....
On my first visit this is how I found their family room:

After: I think it was a dramatic change.
I have to say this job was most gratifying.

ct: Sold in 24 hrs! - 04/05/09 09:17 PM
My company, Glastonbury Home Staging was hired to stage an owner occupied home for a family located in South Windsor, CT , that was relocating. I met with them in early January and discussed my recommendations. They had watched all the shows on HGTV and knew they needed help and were prepared and open to working to get their house ready for sale.
They replaced all carpeting, painted the whole interior of the house, added hardwood floors, replaced windows, changed out hardware, changed light fixtures and replaced all kitchen appliances with stainless steel.  It was a lot of work. I chose … (22 comments)

ct: Newly Remodeled 5 Bedroom Colonial! - 02/20/09 08:41 PM
My company, Glastonbury Home Staging, was recently hired to stage this 5 bedroom colonial, located in West Hartford, CT. This house was deceiving from the outside it so big and the bedrooms are all good sizes, particularly the master bedroom. Many families today are multi-generational, with grandparents moving in with their adult children and their grandchildrens or adult children moving back in with mom and dad. This house could be the right solution many family's housing needs.

ct: Match the Book to It's Cover - 01/08/09 12:41 PM
The HGTV's Designed to Sell experts' list this as a top tip for getting a house sold. I couldn't agree more. Nothing is more disappointing than pulling up to a beautiful home, getting so excited to see the inside and walking through the door and feeling a hugh let down.  My company Glastonbury Home Staging, recently bid on a bank-owned property in my neighborhood. It is a restored Victorian Colonial. I believe they are sometimes referred to as "painted ladies" because of the bold colors that were used historically. A few years ago someone restored this lovely "old lady" and we … (15 comments)

ct: Bank Owned Properties - Do You have experience with this? More to come??? - 10/07/08 12:12 PM
Hello fellow stagers. I just recently had the opportunity to bid on staging a vacant bank owned property.  I prepared my proposal to include two levels of staging each with a fee range. I also prepared a quote to lease furniture. I stated that my fees are payable in full upfront.
I just spoke with the agent and she liked my proposal but said that the bank will not work that way. As a property manager for the bank, she must submit all the bills, which then goes to a committee or two and then they send out payments. This process … (5 comments)

ct: Follow-up to my Blog 250 Real Estate Agents and Me! - 11/11/07 06:47 PM
As promised I wanted to share with everyone the event I had talked about in my previous blog 250 Real Estate Agents and Me!
At the invitation of McCue Mortgage Company of New Britain, CT some months ago, I presented an example of Home Staging for Mcue Mortgage at their annual Thank You Luncheon for real estate agents who do business with them throughout the year. It was held at the beautiful new Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. The luncheon was in a beautiful big ballroom and I was given a very large space to set up a "Before" Staging Room … (12 comments)

ct: Biggest Mistakes in Decorating on HGTV - I think you will agree these are Staging Mistakes as well. - 11/02/07 09:05 PM
Biggest Decorating Mistakes -   Staging Mistakes As Well!A recent HGTV special edition show had a group of designers reviewing the most common decorating mistakes they see; which of course are pretty much the same thing we come across in many of the homes we stage. This particular mistake really brings out the "germ-a-phobe" in me. Toilet RugsThese are cut to fit around the toilet and sometimes have the carpet-like matching seat cover. They can be disgusting for obvious reasons. While a lot of people use toilet rugs because they don't want their feet to be on the cold floor, go for a … (72 comments)

ct: More HGTV Decorating and I think Staging mistakes! - 10/31/07 01:22 PM
Here are a few more decorating don'ts from HGTV - They had a few more but I think these directly apply to Staging as well.Everything MatchesA room that looks like it's a page from a catalog is a mistake because people don't really live that way. It's designed to sell furniture and give you an idea of what you might have in your house, but you shouldn't be matching the look that closely. Make it eclectic, not like a showroom you can't live in. You want to look from one wall to the other and be able to see something different. Lack … (17 comments)

ct: Another resource for Home Stagers - 09/02/07 04:17 PM
I recently staged a vacant house, Woodbridge CT for a couple that live out of state. Another customer that found me online thanks to Active Rain!!!
This property had been leased and the tenants had just moved out the owners only want the bare minimum, just a few accessories added. When I went back to the house I realized I had to do more or it would be a waste of time. This house had some issues and was dark and dated looking. I knew they would not be open to spending anything more. I really wanted to put a table in … (28 comments)

ct: Follow-up - Wethersfield, CT Colonial Sold in 3 Weeks! - 09/02/07 03:10 PM

A follow-up on a post from early August on house in Wethersfield, CT that my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, staged. It went under contract in 3 weeks! And they had a back-up buyer as well!

Of course the homeowners couldn't be happier, and I am thrilled. This was such a nice family, I really enjoyed getting to know them and plan to keep in touch with them. Staging an occupied home allows us to get to know people in such a unique way. Families place such trust in us, allowing us into their personal space, into their lives, during a time … (3 comments)

ct: Lisa LaPorta from Designed to Sell Offers Updated Staging Tips - 08/12/07 02:15 PM
I was recently checking out the HGTV website to check on the time of the new Design Star show. Of course ended up spending quite a bit of time reading articles and looking at the designer's portfolios to see if there was anything new since the last time I looked.
I noticed that Lisa LaPorta the designer for the Designed to Sell show had a new post offering 30 new Staging tips, so I read through them, I was glad to see that she offered more than the usual, ie., cut the clutter, clean, and put away your personal items.
One tip … (15 comments)

This beautiful colonial reproduction home was recently staged to sell by my company Glastonbury Home Staging. It is listed by Jon Reynolds, ReMax, Glastonbury, CT
Building this home was truly a labor of love by the homeowners. It sits in the historical Griswoldville section of Wethersfield, Ct as if it had been there all along.  Here are just a few photos of inside. See below at the bottom of this post for the link to my Real Estate Show showing my staging work. I truly enjoyed work with this lovely family to prepare their home for sale.

ct: New York Times Quotes a Favorite Active Rainer - 07/29/07 04:19 PM
I love to read the Home and Garden section of the New York Times and was intrigued by the headline - Someone is Watching your House. I wasn't sure if it was going to be about security issues at home,as that is on everyone's mind here in Connecticut due to last week's tragic home invasion which made all of the national news. I almost passed on the article because I just couldn't take any more heartbreaking news. But after a quick glance I found the it was about House Stalking , nothing negative. I realized that I have been guilty of … (20 comments)

ct: Will the iPhone be a Stager Dream Gadget? - 07/23/07 09:21 PM
Anyone use this new iPhone yet? My husband went to our local Apple store and came back so excited this new phone. Of, course he is a huge fan and loyal customer. We have all MACs at our house, so I wasn't surprised by his enthusiasm. He did think it would be a great tool for my business, Glastonbury Home Staging,  and these were some of his first suggestions:
all of your before /after pictures your cell phone success story & testimonials moviesand the internet  Have any of you bought one yet? and if so, is it really "all that"?

ct: Real Estate Show followup to Blog House or Hotel Ballroom? - 07/15/07 09:54 AM
I posted a few weeks back about a large house in South Windsor, CT, my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, staged that was so big and ornate, that I thought it looked like a hotel ballroom. I had planned to show the before and after photos; but.....the before's were on our second laptop and the harddrive crashed! I am so frustrated with myself for not making a backup set of those photos!
Oh, well, try to learn from my mistakes. So , I decided to put together a Real Estate Show.  (I know I'm on a roll with these; I just love them)
I … (2 comments)

ct: Follow-up on Cow House Blog - 07/14/07 08:14 PM
I had written a blog a couple of weeks back about a house that was way too country and really turned buyers off. Well my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, basically turned the house upside down and changed around bonus room, family room, and living rooms. So I put together a video show that shows what we did to upgrade a lower level play room into a nicer family room. We brought furniture from what was originally in the formal living room and a bit too country and placed it into the old play room. I think we did a pretty good … (11 comments)

ct: Beautiful Reproduction Colonial Gets a Staged and Updated - CORRECTION show & blog now match up!! SORRY - 07/14/07 03:37 PM
My company Glastonbury Home Staging was hired last week to stage this beautiful colonial reproduction, located in Wethersfield, CT. It is a beautiful home and was very nicely maintained and just needed some up editing and up to date accessories. I would have like to have gone a little further and removed some wallpaper and replaced a couple of pieces of furniture but we did what the homeowners were comfortable doing. They did remove some wallpaper and then painted. They also replace some outdated bathroom fixtures. We joined the listing agent Jon Reynolds of the Remax, Glastonbury, CT office in hosting … (2 comments)
