home staging: THE DIFFERENCE IS UNDENIABLE - 04/24/12 12:39 PM
We get so busy at times and somehow for some families; their home get lost (and neglected) in all the business of life. This family called me right before their youngest was about to graduate high school and the wife had moved ahead to start a new job. The husband was left with getting the house ready for sale so they could join her.... On my first visit this is how I found their family room: After: I think it was a dramatic change. I have to say this job was most gratifying.

I just recieved this lovely thank you note from these clients and wanted to share with you all. home staging: I do believe, I do believe, I do believe in Active Rain - 01/15/09 08:01 PM
Thank you Active Rain, especially all the "wizards" behind the curtain! I expected the holidays and and begining of the new year to be really quiet for my business, Glastonbury Home Staging, but not this winter. I have been surprisingly busy. I would love to be even busier, but I will take it. It exceeds my expectations and I know I have this powerful site to thank. So THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am optimistic about 2009, it's off to a great start so far.

home staging: Match the Book to It's Cover - 01/08/09 12:41 PM
The HGTV's Designed to Sell experts' list this as a top tip for getting a house sold. I couldn't agree more. Nothing is more disappointing than pulling up to a beautiful home, getting so excited to see the inside and walking through the door and feeling a hugh let down. My company Glastonbury Home Staging, recently bid on a bank-owned property in my neighborhood. It is a restored Victorian Colonial. I believe they are sometimes referred to as "painted ladies" because of the bold colors that were used historically. A few years ago someone restored this lovely "old lady" and we

home staging: January is the best time to clear your closets; whether you are selling your house or not! - 01/07/09 09:37 PM
Clear your closets! This is a good thing to do this month. A snow day cancels many obligations like school and most travel. We had one today here in Connecticut. Although I had to prepare Home Staging proposals for my clients today, I did find time to finish putting all the holiday decorations away. That usually gets me on a roll, so then I start hitting the closets. I figure if I take care of these things in January and February by the time spring comes, I am free to go outside to the garden! If you are selling your house,

home staging: Bank Owned Properties - Do You have experience with this? More to come??? - 10/07/08 12:12 PM
Hello fellow stagers. I just recently had the opportunity to bid on staging a vacant bank owned property. I prepared my proposal to include two levels of staging each with a fee range. I also prepared a quote to lease furniture. I stated that my fees are payable in full upfront. I just spoke with the agent and she liked my proposal but said that the bank will not work that way. As a property manager for the bank, she must submit all the bills, which then goes to a committee or two and then they send out payments. This process

home staging: Follow-up to my Blog 250 Real Estate Agents and Me! - 11/11/07 06:47 PM
As promised I wanted to share with everyone the event I had talked about in my previous blog 250 Real Estate Agents and Me! At the invitation of McCue Mortgage Company of New Britain, CT some months ago, I presented an example of Home Staging for Mcue Mortgage at their annual Thank You Luncheon for real estate agents who do business with them throughout the year. It was held at the beautiful new Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. The luncheon was in a beautiful big ballroom and I was given a very large space to set up a "Before" Staging Room

home staging: Tips for first time Home Buyers, From Host of - Property Virgins on HGTV - 11/11/07 05:36 PM
I have watched this show several times now and it is pretty good. I wished I had something like this when my husband and I were looking to purchase our first home. There is so much good information available now for consumers. What I really like about this show is that there is not always a happy ending. The buyers do not always get their dream house. The buyers "dream house" is not always a "dream" it is realistically what they can afford. The buyers on this show are real life examples of first time buyers, sometimes naive, emotional, sometimes completely

home staging: 250 Real Estate Agents and Me! - 11/04/07 07:13 PM
Late spring early summer my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, was contacted by Cathy Kehoe, AVP, Sales, McCue Mortgage out of New Britain, Connecticut to participate in their annual Thank You luncheon for all the realtors they work with throughout the year. Of course I was thrilled at the opportunity. I have been meeting with the planning committee , Gary Kulik, VP Marketing , Kate McCue, Secondary Marketing, Heidi Yanavich, Assistant to the President, and Cathy Kehoe, AVP, Inside Sales, over these past few months. They have been so kind, supportive, interested and collaborative throughout the planning process. They wanted to add something

home staging: Biggest Mistakes in Decorating on HGTV - I think you will agree these are Staging Mistakes as well. - 11/02/07 09:05 PM
Biggest Decorating Mistakes - Staging Mistakes As Well!A recent HGTV special edition show had a group of designers reviewing the most common decorating mistakes they see; which of course are pretty much the same thing we come across in many of the homes we stage. This particular mistake really brings out the "germ-a-phobe" in me. Toilet RugsThese are cut to fit around the toilet and sometimes have the carpet-like matching seat cover. They can be disgusting for obvious reasons. While a lot of people use toilet rugs because they don't want their feet to be on the cold floor, go for a

home staging: More HGTV Decorating and I think Staging mistakes! - 10/31/07 01:22 PM
Here are a few more decorating don'ts from HGTV - They had a few more but I think these directly apply to Staging as well.Everything MatchesA room that looks like it's a page from a catalog is a mistake because people don't really live that way. It's designed to sell furniture and give you an idea of what you might have in your house, but you shouldn't be matching the look that closely. Make it eclectic, not like a showroom you can't live in. You want to look from one wall to the other and be able to see something different. Lack

home staging: Update on Proposal for Developer - 10/18/07 08:24 PM
About two or three weeks ago I wrote a post asking for input in preparing a proposal for a local developer who was referred to me by Cort Furniture. He was building luxury apartments and needed two model apartments designed as well as a club house which included a living room with large fireplace, a kitchen, he asked to have a custom bar designed, a rental office, fitness center, men's and women's bathrooms and additionally a pool area with all the necessary lounge chairs, tables and chairs and sun umbrella. Oh, and also a grilling area with all the necessary equipment

home staging: Another resource for Home Stagers - 09/02/07 04:17 PM
I recently staged a vacant house, Woodbridge CT for a couple that live out of state. Another customer that found me online thanks to Active Rain!!! This property had been leased and the tenants had just moved out the owners only want the bare minimum, just a few accessories added. When I went back to the house I realized I had to do more or it would be a waste of time. This house had some issues and was dark and dated looking. I knew they would not be open to spending anything more. I really wanted to put a table in

home staging: Follow-up - Wethersfield, CT Colonial Sold in 3 Weeks! - 09/02/07 03:10 PM
A follow-up on a post from early August on house in Wethersfield, CT that my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, staged. It went under contract in 3 weeks! And they had a back-up buyer as well! Of course the homeowners couldn't be happier, and I am thrilled. This was such a nice family, I really enjoyed getting to know them and plan to keep in touch with them. Staging an occupied home allows us to get to know people in such a unique way. Families place such trust in us, allowing us into their personal space, into their lives, during a time

home staging: Lisa LaPorta from Designed to Sell Offers Updated Staging Tips - 08/12/07 02:15 PM
I was recently checking out the HGTV website to check on the time of the new Design Star show. Of course ended up spending quite a bit of time reading articles and looking at the designer's portfolios to see if there was anything new since the last time I looked. I noticed that Lisa LaPorta the designer for the Designed to Sell show had a new post offering 30 new Staging tips, so I read through them, I was glad to see that she offered more than the usual, ie., cut the clutter, clean, and put away your personal items. One tip

This beautiful colonial reproduction home was recently staged to sell by my company Glastonbury Home Staging. It sits in the historical Griswoldville section of Wethersfield, Ct as if it had been there all along. Here are just a few photos of inside. home staging: New York Times Quotes a Favorite Active Rainer - 07/29/07 04:19 PM
I love to read the Home and Garden section of the New York Times and was intrigued by the headline - Someone is Watching your House. I wasn't sure if it was going to be about security issues at home,as that is on everyone's mind here in Connecticut due to last week's tragic home invasion which made all of the national news. I almost passed on the article because I just couldn't take any more heartbreaking news. But after a quick glance I found the it was about House Stalking , nothing negative. I realized that I have been guilty of

home staging: Will the iPhone be a Stager Dream Gadget? - 07/23/07 09:21 PM
Anyone use this new iPhone yet? My husband went to our local Apple store and came back so excited this new phone. Of, course he is a huge fan and loyal customer. We have all MACs at our house, so I wasn't surprised by his enthusiasm. He did think it would be a great tool for my business, Glastonbury Home Staging, and these were some of his first suggestions: all of your before /after pictures your cell phone success story & testimonials moviesand the internet Have any of you bought one yet? and if so, is it really "all that"? home staging: Real Estate Show followup to Blog House or Hotel Ballroom? - 07/15/07 09:54 AM
I posted a few weeks back about a large house in South Windsor, CT, my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, staged that was so big and ornate, that I thought it looked like a hotel ballroom. I had planned to show the before and after photos; but.....the before's were on our second laptop and the harddrive crashed! I am so frustrated with myself for not making a backup set of those photos! Oh, well, try to learn from my mistakes. So , I decided to put together a Real Estate Show. (I know I'm on a roll with these; I just love them) I

home staging: Follow-up on Cow House Blog - 07/14/07 08:14 PM
I had written a blog a couple of weeks back about a house that was way too country and really turned buyers off. Well my company, Glastonbury Home Staging, basically turned the house upside down and changed around bonus room, family room, and living rooms. So I put together a video show that shows what we did to upgrade a lower level play room into a nicer family room. We brought furniture from what was originally in the formal living room and a bit too country and placed it into the old play room. I think we did a pretty good
