According to the Anne Arundel County Inspections and Permits website, a permit is NOT required to REPLACE an electrical outlet, or switch in your home. That being said, maybe the correct question to ask is SHOULD you replace the switch yourself?Residential electricity is pretty dangerous. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you should always hire someone with the requisite skills, and licenses. Necessary to replace an outlet...NO, but maybe prudent.Below is a table showing what permits, or plans are required when electrical work is conducted in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Maryland Top Five Counties - Real Estate Units Sold, January 2011/2012 - 02/29/12 12:21 AM
Only one of Maryland’s top five counties showed an increase in the number of units sold in January 2012, compared to 2011. That County was Baltimore. With the exception of Baltimore City, which showed a 26% decline in units sold, the other Counties showed nominal decreases, a sign that the real estate market is stabilizing.

Rip that bandage off quickly, bad news doesn't age well. - 02/27/12 07:25 AM
I’ve been blessed last week with multiple applications on a rental listing, and multiple offers on two resale listings. Anecdotally, the market here in Crofton, MD is picking up considerably.Whenever you’re in multiple offer situations, somebody is going to get a call with good news, and somebody will get a call with bad news. Both for the agent and their client.I don’t take any pleasure in calling another agent and having to tell them their client’s offer wasn’t accepted. I do it because it’s part of the job. The Active Listings in Crofton continue to be at a five year low and most REALTORS® can’t wait for new listings to refresh the inventory. Although 9 new listings came on the market last week, several went under contract, increasing the Active inventory by one. As you can see, about 31% of the current listings are distressed sales, either foreclosure or short sale.Activity in Crofton last week was actually pretty brisk. Nine new listings, seven homes rented, and two sold.

The monthly rents range from $1,325 for a 2 BR, 1 BA condo in the Habitat section, all the way up to $2,995 for a 5 BR, 3.5 BA single family house over in the Manors of Crofton. If Crofton, MD follows historical real estate precedent, we should begin to see an increase in listings beginning once again in March. The Realtors I’m talking to say...it’s about time the inventory gets refreshed. The number of Crofton, MD homes for sale are at their lowest in five years. Today, there are only 63 homes for sale in Crofton. That’s about as low as the inventory was during the overheated markets in 2005/2006. If you live on the water, or within 1000 feet of tidal water in Maryland, you had better be aware of restrictions imposed within this Cheasapeake Bay Critical Area. For instance, if you cut that tree down on your property to get a better view of the water, you could face both civil and criminal charges. Yes, that wasn’t a typo...criminal charges.A homeowner was recently sued by the State for cutting down trees on his waterfront property to get a better view. Does Anne Arundel Country Maryland require building permits for fences?Generally speaking, according the the County website, fences under six feet, and located completely within the property lines, do not require a building permit. You should check with the County if the property is located on a corner lot, or waterfront, since some restrictions do apply here.Keep in mind too that many properties in Anne Arundel County are subject to Home Owners and Condo Association restrictions. The Constitution guarantees the right to free speech. That guarantee also extends to protest movements, like Occupy DC. Protesters in McPherson Square, near the White House, have been camping in the park since October 1, 2011. After three months, local businesses, residents, and the police look like they’ve about had it with the Occupy DC movement. It didn’t happen on Monday, the day the Park Police announced they were going to tear down tents and evict the protesters...but it’s going to happen soon.
