Assisting Seniors In Illinois Communities

Lieutenant Chris Van Dyke of the Riverdale Fire Department attended the first Riverdale Landlord meeting of 2008 January 17th, and gave property owners startling facts! At age 65, older adults are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires or falls compared to the population at large and their population is increasing rapidly!

In Illinois, a fall and fire prevention program which is geared specifically for older adults is available FREE! The program, called, "Illinois Remembering When" which was developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), The Center for High-Risk Outreach, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), can be conducted through neighborhood groups and gatherings. Please help us spread the word!

All seniors do not live in safe environments, and many are exposed to life-threatening dangers just from everyday living. This program will bring awareness and prevention. If you have a group interested in sponsoring a gathering of older adults in Illinois, please contact Lt. Chris Van Dyke at the Riverdale Fire Department at 708-849-2122 ext. 3812. If you know of someone needing to get this crucial information, please contact him at the same number to sign up for the next presentation. Tax deductible donations are also being accepted.

Can YOU See Through The Smoke?

Yesterday, we sought a place to meet in an area where we were viewing new property. Our clients were not familiar with the area, so we selected The Riverdale Marina, the place where the Riverdale Chamber of Commerce hosts most of their membership meetings.

This was our first meeting with three new clients who each had separate needs for property management and listing services. I had only spoken on the phone just one day prior to the appointed time. They drove together in one vehicle from a distance of an hour away. My husband volunteered to accompany me, as we had to view different sites, recover signage and perform other various Property Management duties. The temperatures outside were minus 2 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill factor of minus eighteen! Brrrrrr!

With the three gentlemen following, we arrived right at 11:00 A. M., the normal opening time at the Marina. The meeting lasted a little over an hour, and our very pleased newly signed up clients left ahead of us. Tony and i proceeded to check our messages for missed calls, pay the tab, and make the necessary arrangements to get service for a tenant who had a plumbing issue.

We noticed there weren't many guests which we surmised was due of the bitter cold. Our waitress then mentioned to us about the Smoking Ban that went into effect January 1^st in Illinois. I had hardly noticed!! Then it hit me - the Riverdale Chamber of Commerce had their first meeting of the year, three days prior, on January 16, which i, as a member, was in attendance. I actually passed by the "smoke room" on my way to the entrance door thinking it was some sort of meat house! Voices were heard coming from the "tent-like structure", however, i paid it no serious mind, concluding it must have been workers behind the canvass tending to something!

OK, reality check - This is a place prepared for smokers! "Deek's Smoke Room" an outdoor heated area where smokers can get served and freely smoke without offending the non-smokers. The waitress explained this to us while i listened in awe! Are the customers offended? No, she said, "they like it!" We went in to see this cozy outdoor sectioned off and enclosed area which was much warmer than inside the regular restaurant! While taking pictures, i could hardly shake myself from what i was feeling! What must those that smoke really think of this?? I awakened this morning with many thoughts, remembering when i myself had an appalling distaste for the smell of smoke from cigarettes. It was during this time period when the Lord lovingly prodded me away from my inward snub against smokers.... It was HE who said to me, "I want you to minister to "MY" people who smoke! DO NOT allow them to see or even sense your repulsion!

Fellow believers, beloved of GOD, i realize i may have to duck from a few stones after posting this, but i'd rather suffer the stripes from many religious whips than leave this topic unwritten! I saw beyond the smoke, peered deeper than the canvass shelter, and discovered an ACT OF LOVE with just that one gesture! It kicked condemnation in the shins, and allowed a WAY to be made in spite of the State law. Like it or not, this is ministry, folks - 2008 style! It's about SEEING through the smoke, reaching those who are bound, without judging..... And delivering LOVE to them. Now, I do not know the cost in this. I do not know who or what a Deek is! LOL! I honestly do not believe this was just all about money - i discerned the spirit! I have NO stock in the Riverdale Marina! I am NOT paid to write this! I am not even a smoker! (I do, however know about this addiction since it was by the grace of GOD Himself who delivered me from it years ago.)

The point is.... Can YOU see through the smoke?? We can all understand health issues regarding second-hand smoke, but can we PULEEESE go beyond the smoke screen and see the folks? These are people! Sure they may have a habit - but SO DO WE! We ALL have something we need to be delivered from!! That's WHY the Savior was sent! It's impossible to save ourselves!

So, on behalf of all the banned people everywhere, I apologize to you for suffering the humiliation you are experiencing - I PERSONALLY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! .... And for "DEEK" and the Riverdale Marina? I tip my hat off to you for going through the expense of ushering humanitarian love to help smokers recover a bit of dignity!! We believers can learn from this.... I have.

Crime-Free Housing Comes to Riverdale Illinois

Owners of property located in Riverdale Illinois attended the first mandatory training class required for the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program adopted by the Village of Riverdale earlier this year. The training, held at Park School, October 6, 2007, was filled with approximately 100 owners who traveled from various locations to learn strategies taught by Officers of the Riverdale Police Department, headed by Community Support Officer, James Beatty.

The Crime Free Housing program was developed in 1992 by the Mesa, Arizona Police Department. Over 1700 communities in 44 states and 4 Canadian provinces have been trained in CFH. The information contained in the seminar is a compilation of experience and proven methods from professional rental property managers, lawyers, and police officers. The Tenth Annual International Conference will be held in Canada in July, 2008, and hosted by the City of Surrey, British Columbia.

The next classes in Riverdale will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, October 13, and October 27, at Park School, 14200 Wentworth. Though the training is free, owners or Property Managers of single and multi-units must register with the Village of Riverdale. For more information, call 708-841-2200.

With the new Ordinance in place, producing cooperative efforts of every owner, Riverdale can expect to see greatly reduced amounts of crime in the area. Supporting the Crime-Free Housing Program is the Landlord Association of Riverdale, the R.A.P.S. Program (Riverdale Alternative Policing Strategy), the Riverdale Resource Center, and Mayor Zenovia Evans' special Community Action Council.

Debbie Meyers-Martin, the Economic Development Coordinator from the Office of the Illinois State Treasurer's Office was the speaker at the Calumet City Chamber of Commerce meeting and luncheon held Wednesday, October 10, 2007, in Tom's Restaurant - Calumet City, Illinois.

Ms. Meyers-Martin handed out literature and spoke on the low-interest rate loans for Illinois business owners, which are designed to ultimately create new jobs through the State's "Employ Illinois" program. More information can be found on the website of State Treasurer, Alexi Giannoulias.

A "Child Care Program" under "Employ Illinois" is also available for qualifying projects that generate new DCFS-licensed child care spaces. This could be the answer to child care providers working out of their homes, and those looking to expand.

Being a believer in GOD makes a huge difference when it comes to Real Estate. With the market place experiencing times of unsteadiness, there is an assurance one can have in the midst of these worldwide changes. A Believer has GOD'S SECRET.

A believer has the LORD to turn to, lean upon, and hope in. And because HE never fails, one will not have to grope in the darkness, wondering what they will do. One's faith in HIM gives confidence that HIS Word is true regarding what HE has promised! One of a multitude of affirmations, asserts, HE will NEVER leave or forsake the believer in HIM.

During times of famine and drought in Biblical history, believers who looked to GOD were faithfully kept by HIM. When the plagues of Egypt began, around 1450 BC, GOD preserved HIS people from every one. Before the rain storms of 40 days and nights began, GOD's plan was was already in place to deliver HIS people. HIS "Arc" of safety is still in evidence, keeping the lives of the believer today.

In these times of uncertainty one does not have to despair.... there is a loving GOD awaiting with stretched out arms to receive whosoever will come in whatsoever state he's in. This is not the time to be left in the dark, not knowing what will happen in the industry, or in your own personal lives. Are you able to discern from the unpredictable signals being shown? No? Then come unto HIM..... HE will surely give rest to those who seek HIM with their whole heart... you too can have the "Secret" of the Lord. Being a believer in GOD makes a difference.

Whoa! Hold up! Renting an apartment is a huge responsibility. There may be a few considerations you have not thought on. Clothing - and upkeep - shoes, cleaning bill, accessories, underwear
Car note - and car insurance, licensing, stickers, renewals
Car care - (expenses uncovered by insurance) gas, oil changes,repairs
Health-care - and dental care (if uncovered by insurance)
Furniture bill - (we recommend using resale stores to eliminate this bill)
Job expense - parking, lunches, uniforms, commuting, etc.
Savings - futuristic planning (vacations, projects, new home, marriage, etc.)
Other expenses - (loans, contributions, emergencies, legal expense, etc.)
Recreation - fun, fun, fun?

Perhaps you have not added up the cost. Take the opportunity to plan before you call for an available apartment. The dreaded four letter word we do not like to hear! At the sound of it, an immediate sinking sensation in the pit of the belly festers while the heart forgets the precise timing of the next chord scheduled to echo it's beat. The brain begans to decipher it's implication.......

It's that dirty four letter word!

A feeling of despair, hopelessness, and dismay hits the hearer who has to brace himself from the light-headedness experienced from withstanding the impact of it resounding! Beads, salty with excretion, form dew-like drops on the brow as an appearance of lines upon the forehead alters the countenance of the once smiling face........

If at all possible, we'd avert, go around, and shoot that word to smithereens in an attempt to delete it out of the dictionary... never to be heard again! WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! On closer examination, if we would understand the hidden value of that four letter word, we would never call it dirty! We would exert it's power and get results...... GOOD results!

The four letter word is, w a i t. That's it..... wait! Wait? OH NO! We don't want to wait! We want to Keep Moving! We have goals to fulfil! We want the industry to get back on track! Hurry! Gotta keep up! Who want's to wait? Haven't we waited long enough? Let's go! C'mon!!

If you are moving without directives..... you're not going anywhere anyway!! There are specific significant instructions to be awarded to those that wait..... the answer for the situation you are facing right now! This is not just any wait... it's the waiting before the LORD! Hush, quieten yourself! In the wait, there is preparation and guidance. In the wait, you can enter into the Presence of your GOD.... HE too is waiting.... waiting for you.

STOP what you are doing right now! Shhhhhhh! WAIT! Listen, hear..... receive correction, forgiveness, healing,.... insight! Your Father, who made you wants to help you. You cannot do this by yourself! Only HE has your answer.... it's in the waiting.... W A I T! HE beckons you.... enter in and find rest. Wait..... It's a GOOD four letter word!

The "wisdom of this world" is FOOLISHNESS says GOD, the Creator of it! God even uses the most foolish things to confound man.... HE has even used a speaking ass just to show the folly of it all! Solomon, whom GOD pronounced as the "wisest and richest man who ever lived" finally concluded after searching the world over.... that "ALL is vanity".... E V E R Y T H I N G!

Now, the FEAR OF THE LORD.... it's the beginningof WISDOM.... (GOD's wisdom) but fools, the scriptures say, DESPISE IT! (In other words.... they loathe doing things GOD's way... and hate those that do!) They are relentless in promoting themselves and others who seem to have it made.... convinced in their minds based upon outward appearances of successes. In the earthly, sensual, devilish wisdom of this world, success is measured by what is seen.

Now, GOD is NOT a man.. (men lie!) HE said that kind of wisdom... originating from man, is foolish.... and IT IS... whether we believe it or not! So, WHY is it that we see folks tripping over everyone else's toes striving in their intellect to convince others to follow? FOOLISHNESS! Wait, listen to this... WHY do you see folks running after self-exalted know-it-alls, AND paying them money to hear all the stuff they know? FOOLISHNESS! WHY are we following these folks as if we do not have the mind of Christ? We have made idols out of these over-paid-smug-in-their-ego philosophers! FOOLISHNESS!

Now wait..... Don't let me get started on fads! (stuff) Now we are following things??? It's bad enough following man! FOOLISHNESS! "Here a fad there a fad everywhere a fad-fad!" Now, there we go... like trampling over weak wildebeests in their annual migration trek! FOOLISHNESS!

What ever happened to TRUSTING in the LORD? How about... leaning NOT to our own understanding? Are we really acknowledging HIM in ALL our ways??? We SAY we trust HIM! We say HE is our Shepherd and that we shall not want.... but we have picked up the deceptive antics of fools if we are following men, and gathering things without the leading of the Lord.

Beloved... check your spirit... go ahead.... test it! Have you allowed the fashioning of this world to stifle out the voice of wisdom from above just because of this trying Real Estate Market? Don't forget, GOD was the FIRST Realtor! He OWNS all the land and knows how to release homes to you..... by HIS wisdom! The wisdom of this world is foolishness!
