bangor subase: Lovin' Where You Live! - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula - 05/03/18 10:49 AM
One of the things I absolutely LOVE about living here on the Kitsap Peninsula in WA State, is being part of a very large military community. We are honored to have several strategic base installations here in the Western Puget Sound - Bangor Sub Base, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport, and others.
As a Veteran and former Navy submarine sailor, I'm an avid supporter of our active-duty service members and their devoted families. I'm a sucker for those YouTube videos that show Moms and Dads surprising their kids by coming home unexpectedly!
This morning, while I was out watering some … (9 comments)

bangor subase: VA Home Loan Buyers in Kitsap County WA - 02/27/12 06:09 AM
Here on the scenic Kitsap County WA peninsula, we are fortunate to have a very large military community comprised of Naval Base Kitsap, including the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bangor Subase, and the Keyport Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
As such, many of the active-duty, active reserve, and retired service members buy homes here in Kitsap County WA using VA Home Loan financing. This is a very popular loan product of choice mainly because it doesn't require that the Buyer contribute a down payment.
VA Home Loan rates are usually fairly competitive compared with conventional loan rates. The current VA Home Loan … (0 comments)

bangor subase: First Time Home Buyers and VA Buyers - Affordable Lake Symington WA Home - 07/27/11 03:06 PM
Even though there's an abundance of attractively-priced short sale/foreclosure properties in Kitsap County WA, unfortunately, many of these properties are not available for FHA or VA financing. Add to that the challenges and typically excessive delays in waiting for bank approval, short sales and foreclosure properties are not always the best fit for 1st Time Home Buyers or VA Buyers.
Here in Kitsap County WA, we are a proud home to a very large military community comprised of Naval Base Kitsap, which includes Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bangor Subase, and the Undersea Warfare Systems Center in Keyport WA.
One residential area … (4 comments)

bangor subase: VA Appraisal Horror Stories: The Ultimate Deal Killer in Kitsap County WA - 02/25/10 10:43 AM
Let me preface this article by stating for the record that I am a big fan of VA financing. It’s one of the few home loan products currently available for active-duty service members and veterans that requires little or no money up front in order to purchase a residential property. The first two houses my wife and I bought were financed with VA home loans, otherwise we would have been renters for a very long time!
It’s just that I really dislike the whole VA appraisal process. While we have many highly qualified appraisers here in Kitsap County WA, and most … (12 comments)

bangor subase: "Bubbleheads" - Another Wordless Wednesday in Kitsap County WA - 01/13/10 09:42 AM

Just recently, I attended a ceremony at the Naval Undersea Museum here in Keyport WA when they opened a new exhibit commemorating the 50th anniversary of the launching of the ballistic missile submarine USS George Washington (SSBN598). The 'Georgefish' was commissioned on December 30, 1959 and saw 55 deterrent patrols over a period of 25 years. She was decommissioned in January 1985.
I proudly served on-board the Geo. Washington as a Radioman from the Fall of 1976 to the Summer of 1979.
Pictured is Tudor Davis (left), a torpedoman's mate on the original crew, and TMC(SS) Peeling (right) who was … (11 comments)

bangor subase: "Demonstrators vs. Deterrence" - New Post on 'Everyday CK' - 01/10/10 08:04 AM
This past Friday, I had the distinct pleasure of attending the opening of a new exhibit at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport WA.
The purpose for this new exhibit was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launching of the USS George Washington (SSBN598), the first nuclear ballistic missile submarine.
As a former crew member of the 'Georgefish,' attending the ceremony brought back a flood of fond memories - the comradery of my shipmates, the pride and dedication of the crew, the hard work and sacrifices made to successfully carry out our mission.

bangor subase: Unlocking the Mystery of VA Appraisals in Kitsap County WA - 05/15/09 09:08 AM
“And you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
                                                                John 8:32
Okay, so the topic of VA appraisals here in Kitsap County WA isn’t on quite the same level playing field as Biblical Truth, but the principle is still the same.

bangor subase: Christmas and the Price of Freedom - 12/17/07 07:58 AM
As Christmas rapidly approaches, I don't necessarily have 'visions of sugar-plums' dancing in my head, but I am getting very excited at the prospects of being reunited with treasured loved ones. Our daughter, Emily, will finally be back home and Aunt Nancy from Chicago will be with us as well. It promises to be an exceptionally special Holiday Season!
One of the things that I particularly appreciate about living here in Kitsap County WA is being part of such a large and valued military community. The Kitsap Peninsula is home to Naval Base Kitsap, comprised of installations in Bremerton, Bangor, and Keyport - including the … (23 comments)
