This view is looking West from the scenic Kitsap Peninsula, situated halfway between Seattle WA and the Olympic Mountain Range. The Hood Canal is part of the Puget Sound waterways and is a popular recreational destination in the Pacific Northwest. If you're in the market for a view, waterfront, 2nd Home, or vacation property, I would love to help you! ~ o ~ o ~ o ~ o ~ o ~ o ~ Rich Jacobson

kitsap peninsula: Lessons on Life from High School Sports - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula WA - 09/18/09 12:49 PM
I had a few rather awkward and painful, but short-lived experiences with student athletics when I was growing up. I remember being on a Babe Ruth baseball team out in Livermore CA sponsored by Patterson Glass. It was my first team where the uniform wasn't a cheap silk-screen t-shirt. Even though I couldn't hit or field a baseball, at least I looked as though I had reached the Major Leagues. My Dad had always been the motivating force behind my illustrious baseball career, so when my folks divorced, and he moved to Southern CA, he wasn't around to remind me of practices or games. One hot summer afternoon, my sisters

kitsap peninsula: "Feelin' Crabby?" - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula WA - 08/17/08 06:43 AM
One of my favorites things I enjoy about living on the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula here in scenic Washington State, is taking my boat out crabbing on the Hood Canal, part of the extensive inland waterways of Puget Sound. The Hood Canal is a long, deep, narrow strip of water wedged in between the Kitsap Peninsula and the picturesque Olympic Peninsula. The Olympic Mountain range rises up rather dramatically from the edge of the water. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking.! To learn more about recreational crabbing out on the Hood Canal WA, go to Crabbing in the Hood. ~ o ~ o ~

kitsap peninsula: Christmas and the Price of Freedom - 12/17/07 03:58 PM
As Christmas rapidly approaches, I don't necessarily have 'visions of sugar-plums' dancing in my head, but I am getting very excited at the prospects of being reunited with treasured loved ones. Our daughter, Emily, will finally be back home and Aunt Nancy from Chicago will be with us as well. It promises to be an exceptionally special Holiday Season! One of the things that I particularly appreciate about living here in Kitsap County WA is being part of such a large and valued military community. The Kitsap Peninsula is home to Naval Base Kitsap, comprised of installations in Bremerton, Bangor, and Keyport - including the

kitsap peninsula: "Late Crabbing Season Re-Opens!" - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula - 10/29/07 11:34 AM
The Washington Dept. of Fish & Wildlife recently announced that 5 areas of the Puget Sound will reopen to recreational crab fishing. This is welcome news to those of us here in Kitsap County who drop our crab pots out on Hood Canal. This past couple of Summer seasons have been rather disappointing, to say the least. So this reopening affords us a few more opportunities to feed our freezers! Starting at sunrise November 1st, Marine Area 6 (eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca), Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet), Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton), Area 11 (Tacoma/Vashon), and Area 12 (Hood Canal) will all reopen for sport crabbing. kitsap peninsula: "Razor Clammin' on Copalis Beach WA" - Life in scenic Washington State - 10/29/07 11:17 AM
This past Saturday, my oldest son, Ben, and I drove out to the Washington Coast for the first official Razor Clam dig of the 2007 Fall Season. It takes us about 2 1/2 hours to drive out on Hwy. 3 through Shelton, past Aberdeen & Hoquiam, and then on up to Copalis Beach. Four area beaches were opened to harvesting, including Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis, and Mocrocks. I prefer Copalis because you can drive your vehicle right onto the beach, park it, and walk a short distance down to the surf. To learn more about Razor Clamming on the Washington State coast,

kitsap peninsula: The New "Olympic View Marina" in Seabeck - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula WA - 10/18/07 03:34 PM
As an avid recreational boater out on the Kitsap Peninsula, I am thrilled about the new "Olympic View Marina" development project out in Seabeck WA. While there are a number of really excellent marina resources on the eastern half of the Kitsap Peninsula, the former Seabeck Marina was the only one on the Hood Canal side. Unfortunately, that facility was closed and condemned as unsafe a couple years ago, leaving boaters with no place to moor or gas up. Since I almost exclusively launch and operate my boat over on Hood Canal, the prospect of having a new, improved marina in Seabeck was

kitsap peninsula: Leaving My Wife for a Crab - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula WA - 09/02/07 01:20 PM
Yes, it's true. I can't deny it. I love crabs. And not just any ole' crabs, mind you. But Dungeness Crabs. The delicious 'mouth-watering' variety that is plentiful here in the scenic Pacific Northwest. When the crabbing season rolls around here on the Puget Sound WA, you can typically find me out cruising the deep, clear waters of Hood Canal in my trusty C-Dory, in search of the illusive 'Dungie.' But the question I have to ask myself is this, "Would I ever leave my wife for a Crab?" To find out the answer to this puzzling question, go to Crabbing in

kitsap peninsula: "Countdown to Crabbing!" - 06/25/07 01:21 PM
Well, as hard as it may be to believe, even real estate professionals need an occasional day off, for time to relax and re-energize. As much as I truly enjoy my chosen vocation as a licensed real estate agent with Windermere Real Estate, in Silverdale, here on the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula in scenic Washington State, there are times when I need a reprieve from the stress, a moment to escape, to find solace amidst the majestic splendor of the Pacific Northwest. And by far, one of my favorites ways to accomplish this is by taking my boat out crabbing on Hood Canal. Perhaps it's the calming affect of being on

kitsap peninsula: Celebrating in Seattle - 05/31/07 02:52 AM
According to a recent Forbes.com article, homeowners in the Seattle area are dancing in the streets! Why? Because the Seattle area is the Number One Best Housing Markets in the U.S. According to data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the city's median home price in the 1st quarter hit $380,200, up a whopping 12.3% from a year earlier. And it's not just the Seattle area, but the entire Pacific Northwest Region as well. In Portland, Ore., prices jumped nearly 9% and the capitol city, Salem, it grew up over 15% in the same time period. Today's weather here on the Kitsap Peninsula was yet another

kitsap peninsula: Kitsap County Regional Library Loses Levy - 05/22/07 12:49 AM
Local voters here in Kitsap County drove their collective 'Chevy to the Levy' this past Tuesday, but the levy turned up dry as the initiative to increase the tax rate failed by more than 5,000 votes (55 percent of those casting ballots voted no). Kitsap Regional Library officials and supporters watched in shock and disbelief as the election results were revealed Tuesday evening. Director Jill Jean suggested that the failed measure was a public backlash towards other recent tax increases and the rising cost of gasoline. But some have suggested otherwise.... kitsap peninsula: "The View from Here!" - Life on the Kitsap Peninsula - 12/18/06 01:31 AM
One of the many things I enjoy about my involvement here on ActiveRain is the opportunity I have to showcase the area where I work, live, and play - the picturesque Kitsap Peninsula in scenic Washington State. My family roots go down deep in Washington soil. My mom was born out on the coast, near the edge of the Olympic Rain Forest. My grandparents lived in many places throughout the western half of the State, ending up in Everett, where my grandfather captained a tugboat. My aunt and uncle lived on the bluff in Mukeltio, overlooking the beautiful expanse of the Puget
