The history of the WA State Ferry System is a fascinating one, originating in the early 1900's with several private steamboat operators, known as the "Mosquito Fleet," to the present State-run operations we have today. I have posted a few blogs about living here on the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula in scenic Washington State. However, I am always surprised at how many people have never heard of it, or do not have a clue where it is. The Kitsap Peninsula is actually considered part of the larger Olympic Peninsula in Western Washington. It includes all of Kitsap County, and parts of Mason and Pierce Counties as well.
