home sales: Chattanooga Real Estate Sales Trends Since 1994 - 09/01/08 12:14 AM
Chattanooga and Hamilton County real estate sales have been consistent over the last 14 years, as shown by the graphs below. The sales information is taked from the Multiple Listing Service and covers all residential home sales in all Hamilton County areas.
The market peaks from 2004 to 2007 are noticeable in the graphs, and follow trends similar to those throughout the nation. These peak years were caused in a large part by the existence of new mortgage loan programs that made home purchasing available to buyers who had not previously been elibible. These programs greatly expanded the market for home purchases.

home sales: Fed updates troubled bank list - from 90 in March to 117 today - 08/26/08 04:23 PM
The FDIC has just today finally updated its regulatory watch list, increasing the number of problem banks from 90 to 117. We have been looking for this revision to guage how the industry is moving. The news report I read indicates that the banks added to the list are larger players.
While the number of banks increased from 90 to 117, the combined assets increased brom $26 billion to $78 billion. Additionally, banks have had to set aside more that 4 times the loss provisions than were required in the 2nd quarter last year.

home sales: Real Estate Market - 05/11/08 03:39 PM
Recently the Chattanooga Times Free Press published a letter to the editor from me. The intent of the letter was to give some emphasis to the good aspects of this real estate market. There certainly is plenty of bad news. More lenders are closing or reducing their product line or ceasing to accept broker loan applications.
The headlines about major lenders are generally focused on the unimaginable amount of losses - in the billions of dollars.
