How is it the market is so bad right now, but the banks are still raising rates.
This doesn't have to do with mortgage rates, but make sure you check your credit card mail, because they are now raising the highest rates to 30%. Yes, you read that right to. I got a notice from Discover stating if you are a day late on any payments they will be raising your rate to 30%. WOW!!! I guess I won't be using that card anymore just in case.
Rate watching is becoming a real common trend with people anymore today, but one thing I will advise people is to proceed with caution when looking to refi, because it is not going to be the easiest thing to do in Michigan. This is in large part because of the housing market being so bad.
The banks are trying to eliminate loans that are cash out above a certain Loan to Value, which is difficult to even get a true appraisal on anything in Michigan. Banks have officially started viewing foreclosures as part of the housing norm. If you are looking to refi the first thing we will need to do is order an appraisal and allow the banks to beat that up, and then the rest of the loan process will be pretty easy.

With todays market being so, in simple terms, dead the government needs to keep lowering rates to start helping the housing market get back to normal. This would take banks loosening up the strap a little as well, because banks are the ones that have to approve the loan.
