How To View A Parcel Map In Fairfax County
 
It's good news if you want to look at your parcel map (plat map) and you live in Fairfax County.  There's a new map viewer!  It works on browsers other than Explorer, and it features a host of other displays including zoning, contour, soil, topographic, stormwater, and wastewater.  I'll admit, many of these new features are overkill for what I need, but I'm still pretty excited that I can access parcel maps using my default web browser (Chrome).
Here's how it works:
1 - Head on over to the webiste: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/gis/DMV/Default.aspx

With regard to parcel maps...
There are more tools available to appraisers (and to the general public) than ever before.  Often residential appraisal reports direct someone to a plat that is never supplied.  Or there is often this sentence: "no plat provided."
Elsewhere, on the form is a chance for the appraiser to describe the shape of the land.  Many times it is simply stated as "irregular." This slightly humorous considering … (1 comments)
