To Victorians the Araucaria Aruacana tree is commonly known as the Monkey Puzzle Tree. The climate here is perfect for this tree to flourish. The tree can grow up to 130 feet tall with a trunk diameter reaching 7 feet across. I have not seen any this size in our city.
The tree is native to the lower slopes of the Andes Mountains in central and southern Chile as well as western Argentina. It was first discovered in Chile in the 1780's. Araucaria Aruacana is, in fact, the national tree of Chile.
The origin of the name Monkey Puzzle Tree … (4 comments)

victoria bc: Pre-Inspections--Important or Just a Realtor's Idea? - 01/12/11 02:09 PM
A pre-inspection ordered by the seller should eliminate any surprises that may be uncovered during an inspection by the buyer. This is more important for the older house. Sellers usually does not know all the nuances of their house even though they have lived there for a number of years, so it’s a good idea to do some poking and prodding to find out if there are any issues with the house.
Depending on the pre-inspection report, the seller can decide which repairs to make, if any, before the house goes on the market. Although the repairs may cost money that … (4 comments)

victoria bc: 101 Reasons Why I Like Living in Victoria BC - #10. Royal British Columbia Museum - 01/11/11 03:53 PM
The Royal British Columbia Museum (RBCM) is today one of the leading cultural organizations in the world. The Museum was founded in 1886; the Archives in 1894. There are currently 85 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA's) … (5 comments)

victoria bc: Victoria BC House Prices Headed Back Up? - 11/01/10 07:57 PM
Greater Victoria real estate sales got a boost in October but it's anyone's guess as to where the market is heading!  The following graph is certainly a jump in the right direction.
Although the Greater Victoria real estate market has been rather sluggish of late, the number of sales for October--467-was up 18% over September, 2010.  More encouraging was the fact that the average price of Single Family Dwellings (SFD's) has jumped from $586,686 to $641,780 in the past two months.  The median price of SFD's also rose in October, but not as sharply as the average price.
The average price of … (3 comments)
