As of April 1st the Village of Riverwoods will have new waste haulers which will provide free toters for both garbage and recycling.  The new contract will provide for large 64 or 94 gallon toters for recycling purposes and the fee schedule is geared to encourage recycling. They will do this by having a lower garbage pick up fee for those who have a limited amount of garbage and more recycling.  If you want unlimited garbage pick up the fee will be greater.

It has been my husband's and my experience that since we obtained a 64 gallon toter that we recycle much more than previously.  We believe that  people will be encouraged because of the convenience of the large free toters to increase the amount of goods they recycle.  There will also be the benefit to the community of reduced fees for garbage pick up which I am sure everyone will appreciate in this current economy.

We hope that Riverwoods will be an example to other communities of a way to encourage more people to go greener,
