Tiger at the Black Pine Wildlife Sanctuary in Albion, Indiana - 04/29/12 05:35 PM
I went to the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion, Indiana, last week. Black Pine is a non-profit exotic animal sanctuary, a "last chance" refuge for captive-raised non-domestic animals in need. They give "rescued and retired exotic animals a safe haven, and educate people and enhance their knowledge of exotic and endangered species, and responsible pet ownership." It is a wonderful place and they are doing excellent work there for exotic animals who have been rescued or retired.

Thankful Thursday – A Street Scene in Paris, France
I am mainly a landscape and nature photographer, so when I was in Paris, and there were no landscapes to photograph, except the lovely parks there, I, of course, took pictures of street scenes, buildings, and people.
I am very thankful for the wonderful photographic guide we had in Paris, Sophie Pasquet, owner of Better Paris Photos. I learned a lot about taking pictures of street scenes and buildings and people and got some wonderful fun shots of Paris. Thanks so much Sophie!

I took this photo during my trip to Paris last year. This is a small umbrella repair shop - yes, he repairs umbrellas! In the US, we tend to throw things away when they break, but in Paris, and really throughout Europe and the UK, it seems that people actually care about their possessions and try to make them last by repairing them. What a wonderful concept. I found many small boutique-type shops in Paris that specialized in crafts or repairs, something that is becoming a rarity in the US. Spring at Franklin Park Conservatory
Franklin Park Conservatory is a great place to go anytime during the year. They always have something wonderful going on, but in the Spring (until September 3rd) they have the wonderful "Blooms and Butterflies" exhibition which is an indoor garden, with a warm tropical climate, of exotic butterflies amidst plants and flowers, waterfalls and small ponds, Chihuly Glass sculptures and even a Pacific Island Water Garden. The Emergence Center has hundreds of chrysales that you can watch hatch through the glass windows. Butterfly releases are at 1 and 3 pm daily.
