The Western Carolina State Fair began in Aiken, SC on October 16, 2008 and will end on October 25, 2008 at the Aiken Jaycees Fairgrounds on Highway 1 in Aiken. Special events included a Monster Truck Showdown that began on October 20 and 21, a demolition derby that took place on October 22, 23 and will also be on 25th, a petting zoo and pig races nightly. The cool weather means the fairs are in town. The Georgia-Carolina State Fair in Augusta began October 17, 2008 and will end October 26, 2008 at the fairgrounds at 3rd and 4th streets and Hale Avenue. The fair features rides and games and nightly entertainment. There are numerous exhibits including patriotic quilts that will be given to veterans at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home after the fair, China painting, art, models, and needlework. Augusta natives as a whole takes part each year in the Annual Hispanic Festival downtown. This festival has welcomed Hispanics and non-Hispanics alike for a decade and a half. The Asociacion Cultural Hispano Americana sponsors the event, and this will be its 16th year of celebration and it has come to be known as the Hispanic Festival. For almost an entire weekend, Hispanics are the majority. The festival is the ideal ethnic gathering place. Furthermore, the festival sheds some light on the culture and traditions that non-Hispanics might otherwise neglect to appreciate.
