H. Mull introduced the unique creatures into the Brevard area. He was supposed to have been given a pair by a Mr. Black of Madison, Florida. After a carnival truck had overturned near his home he spotted some of these white squirrels running about in his pecan grove. He captured a pair and gave them to his friend, Mr. Mull.

Mr. Mull's daughter had wanted to breed them but this wasn't working in captivity. In 1951 one of the squirrels escaped so Mr. Mull set the other one free as well. It didn't take long before different locations were noticing white squirrels. They are loved throughout the area and in 1986 the Brevard City Council voted unanimously to pass an ordinance protecting them. You might think these squirrels are albinos, but, they have normal dark eyes. They also interbreed with our more common greys and produce a mixed litter.

They have now migrated to Etowah and are being spotted more and more in the Hendersonville area. They are beautiful and the first time I saw one I thought it was small statuary in a front yard -- until it ran!

This is Sue reporting for Robin

Asheville, Brevard and neighboring counties are a great draw for tourists and retirees looking for a seasonal home or year round living. The region has a lot to offer such as four seasons, beautiful mountains, friendly people and so much more.

Currently we would be considered a buyers market by the fact that many of our prospective buyer's need to sell their existing homes before they can purchase and are experiencing difficulties in their market areas accomplishing this. This situation has impacted our market by having many more properties available for purchasers to choose from and seller's being on the market longer than what had previously been normal. With the excess inventory seller's are also pricing their properties competitively.

For buyer's who are interested in purchasing in the area and in a position to do so with the low interest rates this would be a great time to visit the area and see what all we have to offer.

Thanks for visiting and get in touch if we can be of assistance.

Robin
mailto:RobinOrSue@NC-Hendersonville.com
