Home sales volume increasedAUSTIN, Texas – Nov. 14, 2017 – Single-family home sales increased across the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in October, but declined in the city of Austin, according to the October 2017 Central Texas Housing Market Report released today by the Austin Board of REALTORS®.
 
Single-family home sales in the Austin-Round Rock MSA increased 2.2 percent year-over-year to 2,292 home sales in October 2017. During the same time frame, single-family home sales in the city of Austin declined 1.7 percent to 699 home sales. As you can see from the chart above, there are fewer homes available for sale, more of them are selling and they are selling for higher prices than this time last year. It looks like this will be a continuing trend so if you are hoping to buy a house, now is a great time in Austin to do so while the rates are still so good.

Compared to April of 2007, there is more inventory but homes are still selling. 1,981 homes sold in April as compared to 2,295 April 2007. 10,034 active listings as compared to 8,354 April 2007 with 66 average days on market. According to the Austin Board of Realtors Chairman Chatmon-Thomas, Austin has one of the lowest foreclosure and unemployment rates in the nation but it is a buyer's market.
