   Despite the continuance of good economic news, including strong retail sales for March and a benign inflation report, concerns persist about whether the recovery will be strong enough to turn the job market around. Over eight million jobs lost during the recession is a big hole to dig out of. Some economists have projected that we will need an economic growth rate of five percent during the recovery to significantly lower the unemployment rate. Most economists are in agreement about the fact that we are in recovery. However, near-term projections call for a slower recovery rate of growth.

   This has been a fabulous week for real estate sales. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), sales of existing homes rose 6.8 percent in March and were 16.1 percent above the sales pace in March 2009.
NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun is encouraged to see a broad recovery in home sales. Two important trends he notes are that "sales have been above year-ago levels for nine straight months, and inventory has trended down from year-ago levels for 20 months running."

The devastation of the secondary market for home loans was one of the major effects of the financial meltdown which occurred over a year ago.             According to a recent national housing survey conducted by mortgage finance company Fannie Mae, 64 percent of Americans think now is a good time to buy a home. In fact, 70 percent of those surveyed said they thought buying a home was one of the safest investments available.
