What is news in Redding and the Redding Tea Party - 07/31/09 11:11 PM

What is News?
It seems like almost everyday I am asked the question, “what is happening to the Record Searchlight?”…like I should know. Good question, though, that I even ask myself. In thinking about this, I decided to look back over the past few weeks to see what was “in the news” and some interesting things developed. #1. Some form of crime was noted almost every day. #2. Some form of bizarre behavior was noted regularly, and #3. With the exception of the Healthcare walk, very little space was given to community activities and involvement. The Sports page, even … (0 comments)

Pac 10 Football Report - 07/31/09 10:27 PM
The following is from the internet and other sources and includes the opinions of various sports writers, and is not from the Sports Information Centers of the Pac 10 Universities.
Who can take down the USC Trojans in 2009? Pete Carroll’s team will be aiming for their eighth consecutive Pac-10 title this season. A couple teams have a shot to dethrone the champs, with Cal, Oregon and Oregon State leading the way. The problem is that USC never rebuilds, they simply reload. Even with one of Carroll’s most inexperienced defenses since he took over as Trojans’ head man, and breaking in … (2 comments)

Why the North State? - 07/31/09 08:09 PM

Why the North State?

For those of us that have been here in the North State for awhile, this question is asked frequently. The answer is not an easy one; there are so many variables that influence this question that one hardly knows where to begin.

In Shasta County, with Redding as the hub, our growth has been largely tied in with those folks described as “equity refugees”, or those buyers that were sellers in the Bay area that made a nice profit on their home there and reinvested in the Redding area without a mortgage payment. These … (0 comments)

Just My View- Stillwater Business Park in Redding, CA - 07/31/09 07:50 PM

Is Stillwater Park Our Future? Should it be? What about Recreation and Tourism?

We recently read that Turtle Bay “delivers $9.6 million” to the County last year. Not bad for a Park that receives $350,000 from the City each year to attract visitors from near and far. So, how do the “experts” come up with $9.6 mil? A complicated formula, no doubt, but seems to be based on the theory that the income that Turtle Bay generates is equivalent to 233 full time jobs in the area. These jobs would then provide income that would in turn be … (0 comments)

Roni Deutch Tax Center Seminar in Yuba City, CA this Tuesday night - 07/25/09 07:59 PM
With the economy like it is, very few things are for sure. One of those, though, is...we will always have taxes to pay. The purpose of taxes is to run government responsibly....so we will always have taxes. Are you prepared for this, dah?
Why not be part of the solution, rather than just the victim...open your own Roni Deutch Tax Center franchise.
Over 150 offices have opened over the past 18 months, and this repidly growing franchise is kind of the"hottest thing going".
We sell the opportunity...and if you have been thinking of "doing your own thing"...this may be the time. … (0 comments)

Redding has a money problem also, as does Shasta County - 07/25/09 07:50 PM
This was in the Record Searchlight today and very clearly explains where Redding is financially....
Redding may hold on to $1.6 million in street maintenance money that officials assumed was going to help plug California's deficit, after a deal approved by state lawmakers Friday.
It was a glimmer of good news in an otherwise bleak budget outlook for Redding, which will run out of cash by mid-2010 if it doesn't make another round of cuts.
Sales tax revenue continues to slide and assessed property values are lower than forecast. The city's general fund cash cushion has shrunk well below the $6 … (0 comments)

Talk about a good football game...the north versus the south... - 07/25/09 07:46 PM
This is what's on for tonight...and this was in the Record Searchlight today....Should be fun.
Members of North team participate in a final walk-through Friday in preparation of today's 32nd annual Lions All Star Football game. The 7:45 p.m. game at Shasta High School's Thompson Field pits the bigger North team against the smaller, but quick, South team.
<!-- end .lead_photo_caption --> <!-- end .lead_photo --> Today's the day to find out just how big of an advantage the North's size edge is.
But there's a lot more than girth to determine which team will win the … (0 comments)

Great Listing in Redding, Ca - 07/25/09 07:35 PM
This is the best buy for a 4 BR 2 BA home in the west Redding area...1202 sq ft on a large wooded lot...this is a doll house, cream puff, or whatever endearing term you want to apply. Completely refurbished by the owner, who just bought a new home in South Redding, this is really a great little house.
And, the owner will give a credit for a new Central A/C unit....and a credit for the hot tub...
E-mail for details, photos, and more reasons why this is a great buy.
