“Believing in your dreams demands that you are prepared to receive them” Barbara J. Winter in her book Making a Living Without a Job. The above quote from Winter’s book is written on a 3 X 5 card which is stuck in the French Memo Board that hangs at eye-level next to my computer.
That small reminder takes my mind back to the pages in which Winter describes how she realized she needed to purchase a passport if she truly believed in her dream of returning to England. The unfolding of the tale which (29 comments)
One way to be sure to impress your Guests be they home shoppers or the I’ll-be-there-next-week-type is to take the guest bathroom from, “Oh my,” to “OH YES!”
Our plan for this room included: a bit of spiff and scrub elbow grease a gallon of paint for the walls with a slightly darker paint for the trim a simple cornice for the window (which we custom built) a new shower curtain some new linens a few well chosen, clean-lined accessories. The color scheme was dictated by the stonework counter top and mirror surround.
It is easy to see a list of what one must do in order to prepare one’s home for sale in today’s market place. Just take a look at any number of real estate oriented websites and the generic list of “home staging tips” generally pops up somewhere. Then of course you can also choose to bypass the hair dresser and cut your own hair. Look, I found this entire description for self cutting the tresses.
There are two things to be said about cutting your own hair as opposed to staging your own home: It will (31 comments)
This morning I came across this lovely blog written by a dear Mom who is certainly feeling part of the pressure involved in actually getting a home sold. Her post is written with such heart it certainly pulls all your emotions into it.
While she doesn’t understand all aspects of home staging she does perhaps give a picture that many potential home staging clients may have in their own minds. She identifies the process of home staging as being a “sad” undertaking. Possibly she is fully into her own sad feelings of leaving a home which has so many of (70 comments)
Part IV Putting The Right Furniture in the Right Place So far in this 5 part series I have talked about: Starting With the Bare Walls What to Do With Those Viewless Windows Lighting the Way Now I'll go on to discuss putting the right furniture in the right place.
Putting the right furniture in the right place most frequently has to do with discovering where the focal point is and using the focal point as a jumping off place for arranging furniture. This bedroom falls into the common scenario of the bed becoming the focal point. Therefore the task became discovering where best to place the (7 comments)
Part III Lighting the Way So far in our trip through the Anatomy of Staging a Guest Room we have covered the ceiling, walls and trim with paint. We have also covered the windows with practical and dramatic window treatments. Now we will be peeking at inexpensive ways to deal with lighting fixtures. But before we go on we will have to let you in on the secret of the budget for the pre-staging investment – all of our suggestions would have to come in at less than $200. You remember, we have used $110 for window treatments, $47 for paint and $5 (18 comments)

I was working on a new page I wanted to include in my real estate agent packet today and I thought of a concept I wanted to present to the agents I will be seeing soon. It reminded me of something I learned when I first got into the real life, adult, make-your-own-living world. I was working with the display department in a national retail chain. My boss told me we would be setting up a table to place items that were on sale in a certain department. He told me to pick up one of the folding tables in the (23 comments)
