Armstrong saw the comment, and wanted to tell me how she was able to document the actual events that occurred during the time the love letters were written.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">Armstrong said she was able to obtain declassified mission reports from the unit that James Jones (the man who wrote the love letters) was assigned to</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">. She also had access to government intelligence reports, photographs of the areas where Jones flew his missions, and actual film footage. She was able to track down Jones&rsquo; family, and his daughter gave her the rest of the family history and pictures to fill in the gaps in the story.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">Armstrong explained that when Jones wrote the letters, he was not able to say much because of war-time censorship.</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;"> He could say that he was going to fly that night, but could not give any details about his location or the mission he would be going on. The people living there are considered squatters &ndash; the poorest of the poor. They are unable to obtain nutritional food, clean water, an education or a safe home. Most people in the Kiberia slum live on less than a dollar a day and live in a shack that is about 12 feet by 12 feet. About 75 percent of them are under the age of 25. The women who live there are often unable to feed or care for their children.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;"><a href="http://www.projectbiashara.com/" title="Project Biashara" target="_blank">Project Biashara</a> is a program working to equip and empower these Kenyan women to own and operate their own businesses</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #31849b;">, providing them a means to help care for their families. Gail's Active Rain friends are all trying to get the word out to let Bank of America know that their actions are unacceptable. Thankfully, today Gail received a call from Bank of America saying that they are trying to expedite her request for loan modification. But let's keep up the pressure and continue to let Bank of America know that this group of Realtors expects them to do the right thing!</p><div id="reblogging_tag">Via <b><a href="http://activerain.com/blogsview/3618585/today-i-was-told-by-boa-my-home-is-going-into-foreclosure">Gail Robinson, REALTOR, e-PRO Fairfield County, CT (William Raveis Real Estate, Southport, CT)</a></b>:<br><blockquote> <p><strong><img src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/4/4/6/8/8/ar13603709788644.JPG" height="150" alt="" style="float: right; margin: 10px;" width="200">After three years of filling out loan modification paperwork and sending it in, I was informed via a phone call today from Bank of America that my loan modification was declined on 2/1/13 as I didn't submit all the documents.</strong> &nbsp;Bank of America continues to state this as a reason for declining my loan modifications, but I give them everything they ask for and then have my HUD counselor review it for completeness. &nbsp;Anyone who knows me knows how organized and detail-oriented I am. &nbsp;I have a Ph.D. from Columbia University and that required an incredible attention to detail. &nbsp;I know I submitted all the documents required as I carefully reviewed every request and my HUD counselor, Michael Haynes, of the Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven reviewed them.</p> <p><strong>This seems to me to be a bogus excuse. &nbsp;I think they just don't want to do a loan modification. &nbsp;Although why BOA would want one more foreclosure in Bridgeport, Connecticut is beyond me. &nbsp;</strong>They aren't going to sell the home for more money than I would pay for it. &nbsp;I bought this home at the peak of the market in 2005 and paid $400,000. &nbsp;It is now worth no more than $250,000. &nbsp;I'm earning a good income now, my income tanked when my husband became ill with pancreatic cancer three years ago and our expenses have been high due to the cost of medications, travel, and treatment. &nbsp;We also lost his income when he became ill. &nbsp;We were both in real estate and the market downturn left us with less money at a time when we needed more.</p> <p><strong>As you know, my husband has Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer and he is getting hospice care in our home. &nbsp;I haven't told him yet that our home is going into foreclosure.</strong> &nbsp;BOA says to consider a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure or a short sale and just leave, but my husband wants to spend his final days in his own home. &nbsp;Is that too much to ask of a big heartless organization? &nbsp; Probably. &nbsp; But don't you wonder where all that Mortgage Settlement money went to? &nbsp;Weren't the lenders supposed to be doing more loan modifications instead of allowing homes to go into foreclosure? &nbsp;What the heck are they doing with that money anyways???</p> <p><strong>It makes no sense at all to me, but my hope is that if you would reblog this post that BOA will notice it on social media, reconsider their decision to foreclose, so that I don't have to tell my husband that our home is going into foreclosure.</strong> &nbsp;He's been going through a tough time over the past few weeks and my fear is this will cause him enough stress to push him over the edge emotionally and physically.</p> <p><strong>I trust in the power of AR to get the word out and in your love and kindness to support me at this time as I try to be strong for my husband.</strong> &nbsp;Thank you.</p> <p><strong>6 PM 2/9/13 UPDATE:</strong> &nbsp;<em>Two Social Media managers from BOA contacted me today and my case will be sent to their Escalation Team. I was in Lufkin, Texas with a group of Alvin High School students who were participating in an academic competition at Lufkin High School.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;"><br></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">Six students, one other teacher and I made the three-hour drive from Alvin to Lufkin very early that morning.</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;"> We pulled into the parking lot of Lufkin High School a little after 8 a.m., ready to compete in the journalism and current events contests. As we were getting out of the school district van, we heard what sounded like a sonic boom. Everyone looked up, but we didn&rsquo;t see anything unusual &ndash; just a beautiful blue sky on a crisp Saturday morning.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">About an hour into the competition, we began to hear buzzing about an explosion on the space shuttle.</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;"> I found a TV that was on in the school library, and discovered that the sonic-boom sound we had heard that morning was the shuttle as it disintegrated over Nacogdoches, Texas &ndash; just 20 miles down the road.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">When our kids were finished with their competition, we loaded them up in the van and drove down the highway to Nacogdoches to see what was going on.</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;"> We saw armed Texas National Guard members along the highway and back roads, standing guard over bits and pieces of the shuttle which had fallen to earth. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">The kids all wanted to get out and talk to the guards </span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">(all of them were journalism students &ndash; naturally looking for the news story), so we found one who looked friendly enough and let the students ask their questions. The kids took pictures of the debris, talked to the guard, and gathered enough information to write a story for the school newspaper. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">&nbsp;</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;">Alvin is close to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, and many NASA employees live in the Alvin area.</span></strong><span style="font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; color: #1f497d;"> The Alvin High School students were deeply affected by the shuttle disaster.
