Interest Rates, they are like a Wicked Roller Coaster - 02/13/09 11:55 AM

The current interest rates are great!  I don't know why so many are complaining?  Ok, so yes we got a little spoiled back in 2003, but really those rates were for mostly 3-1,5-1 ARMs.  Any thing in the 5's heck in the 4's sometimes are awesome!  Right now were are sitting at interest rates of about 5.25% for 30yr fixed.  In the course of 60 years (I wish I had the my history chart to include here) rates like we have now have only been this low; now, 2003,2004, and back in the 40s after WWII.
The most recent rates as shown … (0 comments)

Stimulus Package in, $15000 tax credit out; I for one am Happy - 02/11/09 10:42 PM
Today the highly anticipated $15000 tax credit for home buyers that was supposed to be included in the Stimulus Package, but was voted out.  I for one am happy to hear this!  I know many wrote letters and emails to get this passed.  This was supposed to be the "boost" to a sluggish housing economy.  My biggest worry was that this is just a temporary bandage and only prolong the slow market further down the road.  What we really need to do is remove inventory so that the lower supply will create demand; thus stabilizing prices.  With this bill a gluttony of homes would … (4 comments)

Grand Torino; A Movie with a little Real Estate in it - 02/10/09 09:54 PM
I went to the movies last week with my wife and saw Grand Turino.  I have to say it was a good movie!  You have to accept the plentiful amount of racial slurs, but there is a great point to the movie.  Get to know your neighbors, it can be extremely helpful.
The movie shows what can rapidly happen when people don't care for their homes and neighborhood.  Quickly the neighborhood becomes in disrepair and the pride is lost.  This eventually results in lower sales prices and longer times to sell.  I wish everyone would take pride in what they buy.  … (5 comments)

What do you do with old Zippers?.....Art of Course - 02/06/09 04:08 PM
 Zipper Art
So I was reading the newspaper today at Caribou before some showings and I ran across an article on this 81 year old woman named Donna Petrell from Hudson.   She is a local artest for the past 20+ years using zippers.
She has an interesting art mosaic that she does with old zippers.  It is pretty neet and done quite well.  I'm alwasy impressed when people find new uses for old things.

Moving a 1880's Home Across White Bear Lake!! - 02/02/09 09:06 PM

This is an amazing story of a home moved from Manitou Island on White Bear Lake to Shore.  It took $40,000 and 64 tires on dollies to move this 60 ton home across the 2 foot deep ice.  Just imagine the people who built this home watching it roll slowly in the winter to another location.  Now I know if anyone ever asks what it will take and cost to move a home :)
