The snow from the Wednesday storm is still deep in Kentlands. More ice and snow is predicted for mid-week. Many families in the area are still without power. Tree limbs are everywhere and large trees have fallen from the weight of the snow. The roads are clear and most will return to work today. Parking will be difficult in many areas because of the piles of snow.

The Wednesday winter storm in Maryland changed the schedules for everybody. There are still thousands of homes without power and snow removal efforts are still in progress. The Washington, DC region is not prepared for this much snow.

We have a beautiful dawn on this Saturday morning in Kentlands. Many will continue to clear snow from our Wednesday winter storm. We are fortunate to have power in Kentlands since most of the cables are underground. There are still tens of thousands of homes without power in Montgomery County. Heavy snow disrupted the electrical service, cable service and even our wireless service at times.

Maryland residents are still trying to recover from the Wednesday winter storm. Thousands of homes are still without power and there will be much more snow removal this weekend.
A good place to visit on a cold day is the Conservatory at Brookside Gardens at the Wheaton Regional Park in Montgomery County. The is the second weekend of there Spring Display. visit www.brooksidegardens.org for the exhibit schedules and their educational programs.

As we try to recover from the Wednesday winter storm in Maryland, it is a good time to think about the colors that spring will bring. This past weekend was the opening of the Spring Exhibit in the Conservatory at Brookside Gardens at the Wheaton Regional Park in Montgomery County, Maryland. For most of Thursday, Comcast cable service was non-existent and Verizon wireless had no service. Most of us had no computer access. We had a heavy snow last night in Montgomery County, Maryland. About eight inches at our house. Will be working on the clearing this morning. Today is a very good time to reach out to help a neighbor. There are many heart attacks after winter storms. Please clear an extra sidewalk or steps to assist the seniors and disabled folks in your neighborhood. Schools are closed in our area today.

The Colors Of Winter In The Kentlands Snow
On my walks through Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland, my focus in the colors of the season. Many keep asking for snow pictures so this a shot of the colors of the season in the snow. Snow does not show well on a white background.

This is the Winter Weather Warning that we received this morning:  "The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area starting at 7:00 am today and lasting until 4:00 am Thursday. The precipitation will be primarily snow which will mix with rain and sleet during mid day.  Forecasted total snow accumulations are in the 4" to 8" range with the heaviest snow falling between 4:00 pm today and midnight." Yes, we have the predicted snow this morning and I will need to use the shovel to get to the newspapers.

Where are the lists of Maryland trustee sales?
The attorney for a new Montgomery County, MD real estate investor had advised him to look into the opportunities to purchase foreclosures at the area trustee sales. The investor asked me how to find the lists and how to learn about the procedures.
We receive many calls asking about trustee sales since we have represented foreclosure buyers for many years. These are the foreclosure auctions that take place at the court house entrance in each of the Maryland counties. We have snow and ice on the ground in Kentlands. It makes it more difficult to find the colors of the season in the neighborhood. Always have a camera in hand when you take your daily walks through your community. Look closely for the small things that you would normally pass without notice. You will find colors to brighten your day and your attitude.

Mold inspections conflict of interests
This question involves a prospective listing of an estate property when discussing the property with the attorney and the heirs. The home has mold issues and will need inspections and remediation. Evidently, someone had recommended a single company for the inspections and remediation. One of the heirs asked if that was a conflict of interest.
How would you answer the question? It is not unusual for a single company to be used for inspections and mold remediation. However, this practice could invite fraud, higher prices and undesirable results.

Calcium deposits in hot water heater
What causes calcium deposits in a hot water heater and what is the cure?
The home is on city water in Maryland and has a gas hot water heater. Calcium deposits are clogging up the facet filters. Water flow is reduced until the filters are cleaned.
What would you do to solve the problem?
Is there any risk related to drinking this water?
I will appreciate your answers to this problem which is a new one for me.

We had overnight snow in Maryland and now have icy rain. Too slippery to take the neighborhood walk or drive on the streets. One of our clients asked us where to get free credit reports. They had received a promotional advertisement for "free" credit reports but were afraid that it might be a scam.
I recalled a December blog by Conrad Chee, a mortgage loan officer in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in which he made recommendations to members of ActiveRain.  Conrad reminded us that credit and identify theft is costing consumers millions of dollars each year and that a regular check up of our credit is just as important as a regular visit to our dentist.

As some of us got on our scales this morning, we realized that we are not on track with our resolutions to lose weight this month and this year. The tenth of the month is a good time to review the status of our excess fat.
Maybe this is the week that we should stay away from the deli or resolve to eat nothing at the open houses. Even worse, heaven forbid, perhaps we should pass on happy hours and the wine with dinner for a few days.

Seasonal housing. Where have the occupants gone?
I like to have my camera in hand during my neighborhood walks through Kentlands and Lakelands in Gaithersburg, MD. The leaves have fallen and it is easier to see the seasonal housing for our feathered friends. The quality ranges from minimum housing to high quality.
Take a walk for the exercise and capture the colors of the season with your camera for relaxation. Please share your best shots!

Always have your camera in hand when you take walks through your community. The is a shot of rosemary in our garden. I enjoy daily walks through Kentlands and Lakelands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Walking is good for physical health and photography is good for relaxation. The rosemary is good for the chef.

January in Maryland means that most of the blossoms have faded and our focus turns to the colors of winter. It is easy to pass common plants without taking notice. Have your camera in hand to capture the colors of the season.
Many of my photographs are taken in my Kentlands neighborhood in Montgomery County, MD. I use a Canon PowerShot G11 camera for these opportunities.

Have your camera in hand for walks thought your community. The colors of winter are there to be photographed. My daily walks take me through Kentlands and Lakelands, in Montgomery County, Maryland. Have a special day! 
One of my daily habits for good health is a walk through Kentland and Lakelands, our neighborhoods in Montgomery County, Maryland. During much of the year, I am able to find flowers and seasonal decorations to photograph. In January, the blooms have faded and my search is for the colors of winter.
Fading life sometimes offers a new kind of beauty. Be sure to have your camera in hand for those moments you wish to capture. A great photograph will make it a special day for you!

Most of the flowers have faded by January in Maryland. Every now in then, a bloom will be found during my daily walks through Kentlands and Lakelands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It is always a good idea to have a camera in hand to capture the beauty of nature. Sometimes, a new form of beauty is found in the aging process.

Monday Colors of Winter
We have some cold weather in Maryland an most of the flowers have faded. The challenge is to find the colors of winter on my walks through my neighborhood. I enjoy walks through Kentlands and Lakelands, in Gaithersburg, MD.  Always have a camera in hand to take advantage of the opportunities presented by nature.

Plumbing Defects Pin-pointed During Infrared Home Inspection - 01/03/11 06:40 AM
Good information on the use of an infrared home inspection. When the problems can be clearly defined, the buyer is much more comfortable with the transaction and it is easier for the seller to agree to make the needed repairs.

Maryland is a beautiful state every month of the year. In January, most of the flowers are gone but we are surrounded by the colors of winter. Always have you camera in hand to capture the beautiful moments in your neighborhood.

We receive many questions on trustee sales. Prospects see vacant properties or the the neighbors tell them about pending foreclosures. Since we have worked with foreclosure sales many years, some of the prospective buyer come to us.
Generally, we advise owner occupant purchasers that trustee sales are too risky for most buyers. You do not get to see the interior of the homes since the majority of the properties are occupied and not listed for sale. Even if you know about the physical condition, the condition may change before a settlement takes place.
