Tax Exclusions For Home Sales - 01/30/12 11:05 AM
Tax Exclusions For Home Sales
The weekend Housing Counsel column, by Benny L. Kass, in The Washington Post provides some good tax information for home owners.
“Selling your home (including condo or co-op) in today’s market is not easy, but when you are successful, you may be pleasantly surprised by the favorable tax laws.
In general, if you are married and meet two legal tests, you can exclude up to $500,000 of the profit you have made. If you are not married or file a separate tax return, the exclusion is reduced to $250,000.”

Skating on the Kentlands and Lakelands Lakes is Prohibited!
The frozen lakes look inviting, but please do not attempt to play or skate on any of the lakes in Kentlands and Lakelands.  The ice could give way and you would fall into freezing water!  If this were to happen, it could prove fatal before rescuers could reach the scene.  Talk to your children about the extreme danger of playing on the ice or the rocks surrounding the lakes.

Are you having a glass of Moscato this evening?
Those of us that enjoy wine enjoy trying different kinds and are always seeking new favorites.  I always seek favorites among the selection in inexpensive wines. Yes, I do mean cheap wines.
Over the holiday, we purchased a case of Jacob’s Creek wine at Costco for $60.00, or $5.00 per bottle.  I thought it was a bargain purchase. The case included three bottles each of four different wines, Moscato, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.  If you have a chance to purchase the same selection, we recommend it to you.

Avoid the Wrong Way in Short Sales
Manchester, New Hampshire real estate professional Scott Godzyk provides some very good advice to home sellers that need to obtain short sale approval from their lenders.
Financially troubled mortgage borrowers need to take action to protect themselves and their families.  As Scott explains, many agents do not have the needed experience and the selection of a listing agent is very important in these situations.
