If you enjoy holiday decorations made with natural materials, you will see many fine examples in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. At the time of the Revolution, Williamsburg residents did not use the kind of decorations that we enjoy during our visits.
Colonial Williamsburg was first decorated for Christmas in 1936 and Christmas decorations were popular by 1940.

Chef Dolores and I like to spend the Thanksgiving holidays in Colonial Williamsburg. This is one of our favorite travel destinations and we try to visit the area several times each year. One of the benefits of visiting during the holidays is that the decorations are beautiful and fun to photograph.

Colonial Williamsburg is a wonderful travel destination for those that are interested in American history in the 18th century.  The Thanksgiving and Christmas period is especially delightful because of the holiday decorations, all done traditional natural materials, and the holiday entertainment that takes place every day.
Many of the decorations are very creative and make good examples for those that wish to create decorations for their own homes and places of business. Please share holiday photographs from your favorite places in the comments for this post.

Holiday Decorations in Colonial Williamsburg
One of the pleasures of visiting Colonial Williamsburg during the holiday season is seeing all of the decorations in natural materials.  Those that enjoy making their own decorations will be inspired by the traditional themes that always delight the eyes in this unique setting.
Dolores and I try to visit Colonial Williamsburg several times each year with cameras in hand. Dolores always wants to visit the colonial kitchen at the Palace and the Benjamin Powell house to get ideas for traditional recipes.
