It is important for residents to know that synthetic pesticides and herbicides cannot be used on lawns in Montgomery County.
The County’s Pesticide Law restricts the use of certain pesticides on private lawns, playgrounds, mulched recreation areas, and childcare facilities. Most synthetic pesticides are not allowed to treat pests in lawns.
Weeds and pests can be prevented by practicing organic lawn care, which should not require the use of any chemicals. Our extensive webpages highlight the tips and tools for successful organic lawn care.

Grants will be awarded to nonprofit organizations and facilities that have experienced, or are at high risk of experiencing, hate crimes. The grants are available to augment costs for security personnel or other security planning measures.

Commuters working in Montgomery County can get reimbursed for up to $280 a month for using public transit or vanpooling, by asking their employers to set up a transportation benefits program. The “FareShare” program of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) offers reimbursements to local businesses for their employees’ costs for commuting to work by public transit—and the money is tax-free.
In addition to vanpools, the program could cover expenses incurred by commuters using Ride On bus, Metrobus, Metrorail or MARC train to commute to and from a workplace within Montgomery County.
