Much of our spring garden has been planted and the painters just finished the exterior work at our home.  We are expecting rain that will be perfect for the flower bulbs that are already sprouting. 
When I photowalk through our Kentlands neighborhood in Gaithersburg, the spring flowers grab my attention.  It is easy to set aside the problems of the moment when your focus your attention and your camera on a beautiful flower or spring blossom.

If you follow my blogs, you already know that I like to take photowalks.  If you are not familiar with photowalking, it simply means taking photographs while you are on a walk.   Most of my walks are in our home neighborhood ,  Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Dolores and I also like to photowalk through local and regional gardens as we seek to capture the colors of the season.  The photographs in this photoblog were taken in April at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, Virginia.

Seeking the Colors of the Season
An important part of my regular exercise program is walking through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  The walks are usually extended to Lakelands, the adjoining neighborhood.   The exercise becomes photowalking when I have my camera in hand.

Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is one of our favorite places to visit for beautiful flowers and gardens.  Over 1,100 acres of gardens and a very large conservatory offer an endless supply of beautiful plants, flowers and trees for enjoyment at any time of the year.
As you walk though the gardens, you will want to have your camera in hand.  Watch for the special events.  This weekend is the time to see the Dahlia Show that will surely be outstanding.

We had a rainy day in Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  I had to cut short my morning walk as a thunderstorm passed by.  I carry a plastic bag for my camera for those occasions. (Tip:  All you need is one of the plastic bags that they use for newspapers and it will fit in a back pocket).

A good goal at the beginning of a new week is to get more exercise and to find more quality time.  Combine the two efforts by getting away from your computer and take a walk through the neighborhood.  If you have your camera in hand, you will be able to capture the colors of the season.  You will not be thinking about business or office problems when you focus your attention on a beautiful flower or plant.
 
Life is better when there are flowers to photograph.

We enjoyed a beautiful day in Maryland.  A two hour photowalk through Kentlands and Lakelands, beginning at 6 a.m., was a good way to start the day.  The birds were singing, the geese were honking and the rabbits were hopping to celebrate the morning.  Dolores and the ladies in the Red Hat Society visited a Civil War museum in Frederick, Maryland and had a delightful luncheon.  They were outfitted in purple and red.

The weather was nice for my early morning photowalk through Kentlands and Lakelands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It is good to get out early to beat the heat on hot summer days and the early morning light is also good for flower photography.  Dolores is playing golf with the women at Montgomery Country Club and they planned for a hot round.

We have a beautiful sunny day in Kentlands and it is a good time for outdoor activities.  I enjoy walking through the community with a camera in hand as I observe the changing colors of the season. 
Photowalking is best done in the early morning when the lighting is better for flower photography.  During the summer, it is also a little cooler to exercise early in the day.  This week there are many daylilies in the neighborhood and I will share a few of my photographs with you.

On most sunny summer weekends we would want to be out and about.  This weekend, we stayed inside, in the comfort of air conditioning, because the temperature was over 100 degrees and we had a severe heat warnings in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Some families have been without power for over a week since we learned about storms called derechos.   We welcome the rain and cooler weather after an eleven day heat wave that broke records for its intensity and duration.

When you live in the neo-traditional community of Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, it is easy to understand why this community is one of the preferred areas for families relocated to the Washington, DC metro market.
The community is lovely.  White picket fences, beautiful homes and a very convenient location in the heart of Montgomery County put Kentlands at the top of the list of desirable neighborhoods.  There is variety.  We have single family homes, townhouses and condominiums and well as senior housing to meet the many needs of residents.
