Spring at Green Spring Gardens
 
Some area residents and visitors to the DC Metro Area may not yet have discovered Green Spring Gardens.  This is a 27 acre public garden located at 4306 Green Spring Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22312.  They have eight acres of demonstration gardens that are designed to appeal to the home gardener.
Add Green Spring Gardens to your list of places to visit.  Be sure to have your camera in hand for your visit.

Spring is blooming in Kentlands
Life is better when there are flowers to photograph.
 
Dolores and I live in Kentlands, a neo-traditional community in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  This area is part of the Maryland suburbs of the District of Columbia.  Kentlands is great for photowalking.  The homes are pretty and there are many flowers among the white picket fences that are common in the neighborhood.
Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the colors of the season.

An easy way to get some needed exercise is to take walks through your home community.  Add a camera and you will be photowalking as you seek the colors of the season.  My photowalks are usually in our home community of Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
We will be planting summer flowers and plants after Mother's Day.

We have a beautiful morning in Maryland and it is an ideal time to take a walk through the neighborhood. The season over for many of the flowers and you have to look a little harder for the autumn blooms. Photowalking is the perfect exercise for your mind and body.

I like to walk through our home community to get a little exercise and to be aware of what is happening in the neighborhood.  When I add my camera, I am photowalking and my focus is on finding the colors of the season in the flowers along the way.
It is always fun to find and photograph the distinctive Flame Lilies.  These flowers make you want to celebrate the beauty of nature.

I like to take photowalks through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Frequently, I take photographs of flowers and plants that I am unable to identify. I was attracted to this very small flower by the color and the light.
When I asked for help with the identification, ActiveRain blogger Toni Weidman advised me that this is Dianthus.

When I take my regular photowalks through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland, It is easy to find Gerbera Daisies to photograph.  This is a Gerbera Daisy growing in a pot on our front porch. Gerbera Daisies are very popular in Maryland and are available in many colors and sizes.

When you are out and about as you walk through your home community, stay alert for the flowers that are easily missed during your outing. Some of the small flowers offer an opportunity to observe the beauty provided by nature. Watch for the color and the light of the moment. You do not even need to know the name of the flower.

Today is the official first day of summer. It is a good time to commit to some summertime actions that will be good for our health and our quality of life. Some of us need to lose a few pounds and many of us need to get more exercise. There is no excuse for not taking time to improve our lives.

What’s blooming in your neighborhood?
 
Nothing beats getting out and walking about to see what is going on in our communities. Put on your walking shoes and grab your camera and you will be ready to do a little photowalking. You might just meet some neighbors or contractors doing spring work. While you are out, photograph the flowers and blossoms that are providing the colors of spring.
In Maryland, the long and severe winter certainly impacted the plants and flowers. I do not think our camellias will be blooming this season even though they were load with hundreds of buds.

As you get out and about on your spring photowalks through your neighborhood, you will find that your photographs become very useful in blogs. My primary interest is in photographing flowers but I also like to photograph beautiful homes and interesting buildings.
This is the old National Geogrphic building. This office building is now owned by Montgomery County, Maryland and houses public service offices. This view is from Main Street in Lakelands, on one of my regular walking routes.

One of my friends in the ActiveRain community commented that there is nothing to photograph in his neighborhood. This was in response to my suggestion to take photowalks through your neighborhood with your camera in hand.
I could tell by the comment that he is not an avid photographer. For those of us that are hobby photographers, there is always something to photograph during a neighborhood photowalk.
Take a walk and try a little harder to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. What's in your neighborhood?

We had a lot of rain in June, over 10 inches. So, all of our greenery has grown more rapidly than usual. The flowers in Kentlands have also enjoyed the extra moisture.
As I photowalk through the neighborhood, I enjoy photographing the flowers that are in bloom. Walking is good exercise and it is easy to set aside the problems of the day as I focus my attention and my camera on a beautiful flower.

The hot days of summer have suddenly arrived in Maryland.  All of us need to take extra care as the heat index approaches 100 degrees this week.
I like to photowalk through our home community, Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, MD.  I find that the best time for daily walks is early in the morning.  And, I love the morning light for flower photography.

Life is better when there are flowers to photograph
 
Much of our spring garden has been planted and the painters just finished the exterior work at our home.  We are expecting rain that will be perfect for the flower bulbs that are already sprouting. 
When I photowalk through our Kentlands neighborhood in Gaithersburg, the spring flowers grab my attention.  It is easy to set aside the problems of the moment when your focus your attention and your camera on a beautiful flower or spring blossom.
