The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will hold a free, “back to-school” vaccination clinic for school-aged children (pre-K through high school) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at the Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring.
Free vaccines are available to Montgomery County school-aged children who are missing any required immunizations. The Dennis Avenue Health Center is located at 2000 Dennis Ave., in Silver Spring.

Place leaves at the street curb by 7 a.m. on your regular recycling day. Before you begin cleaning up your yard, please consider leaving the leaves until after temperatures are constantly above 50 degrees. Many butterflies, bees and other beneficial pollinators are currently overwintering in the dead leaves and hollowed-out stems of last year’s plants. Adult Bike and E-Scooter Classes 
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will be offering low-cost adult bike classes in April, May and June. The classes will include Learn to Ride and Basic Skills classes. MCDOT also will offer four free, walk-up electric scooter classes following select bike classes.
Advance registration is required to participate in the bicycle classes, with a cost of $10 for Montgomery County residents. There is no charge for Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) or Capital Bikeshare For All members. However, registration is still required.

The commission will honor more than 80 Montgomery County Vietnam War Era veterans with detailed tributes displayed on a special website created by the commission.
“National Vietnam War Veterans Day” is observed every year on March 29. The special day recognizes the nine million U.S. Armed Forces and Uniformed Services personnel with active-duty service between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location of service.

Fourth graders in Gaithersburg are encouraged to write essays telling us what they would do if they were mayor. The theme, to be explored in 275 words or less, is “Inspiring Leadership in your City/Community.”  Students are asked to write about the ways elected officials inspire leadership in their communities and to share a project they would take on that would make others want to help make the City better. Finalists will be invited to a panel interview, with the winner being selected as Gaithersburg’s next Junior Mayor. The submission deadline is April 5.

The state’s first-ever Youth-Only Trout Fishing Day for children under 16 years of age will take place on March 23, one week before opening day for all trout anglers. The state’s put-and-take trout areas under closure at that time will be open to youth from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Then on March 30, all Closure 1 and Closure 2 areas will be open to trout anglers starting at 6:30 a.m.The Department of Natural Resources is stocking thousands of hatchery-raised brown, golden, and rainbow trout across the state in preparation.
