Subprime Fallout -- Are You to Blame? Nope. I am. - 03/17/07 01:51 PM
In today's (03/16/2007) Wall Street Journal, Phil Izzo reported that just over half of the economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal said they "expect the unraveling subprime mortgage market to eventually spill over into broader mortgage market." What does this mean for the rest of the industry? Is there an underlying problem that the sub-prime implosion is merely a symptom of? I think so, and so does Jan Hatzius, the chief U.S. Economist at Goldman Sachs in New York who wrote, "The underlying problem is not the subprime market per se, but the reset of large quantities of adjustable-rate debt." Many borrowers bought their homes (23 comments)
March 22 is World Water Day - 03/15/07 02:43 PM
I had never heard of "World Water Day" before about 5 minutes ago, and I am guessing many of you are in the same boat, as it were. In 1992, the UN declared March 22 as "World Water Day" with the intention to draw international attention to the "critical lack of clean, safe drinking water worldwide." Read More Here is a shocking excerpt from their World Water Crisis Report : "The world water crisis is one of the largest public health issues of our time. Nearly 1.1 billion people (roughly 20% of the world's population) lack access to safe drinking water1. The (12 comments)

"Why I'm So Confident About This Market!" - 03/13/07 12:53 PM
by Rich Schiffer, Weichert, Realtors Recently, I received a motivational email from Jim Weichert, the President and Founder of Weichert Realtors. In it he speaks of his confidence in today's Real Estate Market, and how if he himself were buying or selling a home today, he would be acting, not "waiting to see" what the market would do. So that I don't misquote him, here is his message in its entirety, reprinted with permission: With the first day of spring just weeks from now, more people will start asking you, "How's the market? Is this a good time to buy? To sell?" Well, (2 comments)
Your Legacy: Lasting Impact, or Sidebar? - 03/09/07 01:32 PM
by Rich Schiffer, Weichert Realtors Much has been written recently about "Going Green." Many politicians have been talking about "Environmentally Conscious" programs and "Reducing our Footprint." What does it all mean? How does it all really apply to us as Real Estate Professionals? What do we need to do to make a lasting impact? The answers may not be what you expect. The environment we live in is changing. Of that there is little dispute. What is disputed is the causes of the changes. Are the global warming trends and the catastrophic meteorological events simply the normal dynamic of a planet as old as ours, or (16 comments)
PAR Government Affairs Seminar - 03/07/07 04:29 PM
These past two days I have spent in the company of many of my fellow Pennsylvania Realtors, as we came together for a very informative Government Affairs Seminar. You are possibly asking yourself, "What is meant by 'Government Affairs'?" I set out to the seminar to answer the same question for myself. What I learned was how as Realtor, I can work together with local and state government to help support measures that promote and enable homeownership throughout the Commonwealth, preserve real property rights, and create changes that support us and our ability to serve our clients. We heard from several distinguished speakers: Dr. Terry Madonna, the Director of (3 comments)
Big Change Coming -- March 11th - 03/03/07 12:24 AM
My manager, Judith Alignan passed this on to the associates in our office, and I felt it worthwhile to pass on to the rest of you. It is truly earth-shattering news, that will change the way we do business: In 2007, daylight saving time will begin at 2:00 a.m. On March 11 and end at 2:00 a.m. On November 4. "This is bound to take a lot of people in the United States by surprise. Starting in 2007, daylight-saving time begins on Sunday, March 11--not the first Sunday in April as has been the case for 20 year. When you weren't paying attention in August 2005, Congress (0 comments)

Upper Darby Police Chief -- possible candidate for Philadelphia Police Commissioner? - 03/02/07 11:28 PM
Rich Rhys, a senior writer at Philadelphia magazine recently wrote an article about Upper Darby Police Chief, Michael Chitwood. "Not In My Town, Scumbag," points out that there's a high-energy crack-down on crime in Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. Chitwood is a former Philadelphia detective, and is regularly on the streets, making busts, and cleaning up Upper Darby. He may be the best hope Philadelphia has at turning the tide of violent crime in the city. If he were to approach Philadelphia's crime with the type leadership he has exhibited in Upper Darby, I could forcast great improvements in the Real Estate values in some (1 comments)
A Win-Win at a Clasic Rock Art Show and Sale - 03/01/07 10:50 AM
Many people who buy homes or rent in the Philadelphia area choose this region because of its rich rock and roll music roots. Philadelphia is a major stop on many performers' world tours, and we also have had many home-grown stars, who got their start in the niteclubs throughout the region. Philly rock fans take their music seriously, and some are avid concert-goers with quite a collection of memorabilia. If you are one of those serious fans, then this event is for you: To Benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, WMGK (102.9 FM), one of Philadelphia's outstanding clasic rock radio stations, is sponsoring the "7th Annual 102.9 (0 comments)
