I do not mean to go off on a rant but, I must wonder what does it say about our society, when we have a problem with a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient flying the United States Flag on his property, because of estetics no less, the same flag that thousand have die to deffend and the same flag that one day will surely drape his coffin, today it seem that we are infatuated with sports stars, movie stars, we are star struck and give more credence to someone in a reality show than a true to life Hero.

This man one day will receive the salute of a grateful Nation when he is laid to rest with full military honors, why not salute him now that he still alive by honoring his right to fly our flag, after all he put his life on the line for it, that is much more than many people are willing to do today.

Talk about the ultimate betrayal.

(ATLANTA) - Residents in Catoosa, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties are now eligible to receive federal assistance. Governor Sonny Perdue requested this aid following severe thunderstorms and flooding that hit Georgia on September 18 and continued for several days. The Federal Disaster Declaration follows one issued for four counties on September 24. Four additional counties were added earlier today.

"Now, even more Georgia families will have access to much-needed financial assistance that will help them on their road to recovery," says Governor Perdue.

"We are pleased that FEMA recognized the need for and approved the state's request, which will facilitate recovery efforts of families and businesses in these six counties," says Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Director Charley English.

The total number of counties designated under this disaster declaration now stands at 14. The list now includes: Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Newton, Paulding, Rockdale, Stephens and Walker counties.

Residents and business owners in these counties who sustained losses can begin applying for Individual Assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (local time) Monday through Sunday.

Individual assistance can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

Governor Perdue made the request for a federal declaration after reviewing preliminary damage assessment figures.

In the June survey, nearly 42 percent said they were in the process of buying a home or planning to buy one. Poll participants said their reason for moving was: To live in a bigger or better home (26 percent). To live in a better neighborhood or area (24 percent). To be closer to family or friends (12 percent). To live in an area with a lower cost of living (9 percent). To accommodate a change in marital status (6 percent). Moving because of school, job loss, retirement, or foreclosure each generated 3 percent or less. Responses to this survey are substantially different from the responses to a similar survey in March, when 41 percent said the recession was, at least partially, driving their move. The grand opening celebration for Alexander Park, Gwinnett County's second 18-hole disc golf course, was held on June 13. Alexander Park is located at 800 Old Snellville Highway in Lawrenceville. The celebration included disc golf demonstrations by the Gwinnett Disc Golf Organization, a 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk sponsored by the J.M. Tull - Gwinnett Family YMCA, a ribbon cutting ceremony, free kid's activities, and kite flying demonstrations by Suburban Atlanta Kite Enthusiasts.

The 91-acre park features approximately 1.4 miles of paved multi-purpose trails, one mile crushed stone trail, a playground, a horseshoe pit area, three pavilions, lake view piers, an outdoor classroom, and restrooms.

Funding for Alexander Park was made possible through the 2005 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and totaled $3.8 million in construction costs. The park was designed by McFarland Dyer and Associates and the golf course was designed by Doug Porter. Park construction was managed by Moreland Altobelli Associates and the contractor for the project was CMES, Inc.

Gwinnett County Residents, businesses still urged to conserve even with end to drought

Georgia EPD Director Carol Couch declared on June 10, 2009, that the state of Georgia has returned to a non-drought condition. According to the state's rules, outdoor water use is allowed on the even-odd schedule with no restrictions as to hours of use. This means that homeowners with even-numbered addresses can water on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and those with odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Gwinnett County will follow the state's rule.

Gwinnett Commission Chairman Bannister said, "I want to thank Gwinnett County's residents and business owners for pitching in during the drought. Gwinnett water customers used 17 percent less water in 2008 than they did in 2007, saving more than five billion gallons of water. The lesson to be learned from the dry years is that we can't take our precious water supply for granted. And that's why we will continue to urge water conservation."

Gwinnett water customers are encouraged to observe the practice of watering landscapes outside the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., which minimizes the evaporation of the water. Lawns only need one inch of water per week to remain healthy. This amount may be provided by rain or by other means. Transporting reuse water: Customers can now truck reclaimed water for uses such as street sweeping, dust control, sewer cleaning, landscape irrigation, professional chemical/pesticide application, and concrete batch plants. The reclaimed water comes from the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center in Buford. Find out how you can start transporting reclaimed water for your business.

Toilet rebates: Thanks to a measure approved by the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners, Gwinnett water customers can get rebates of either $50 or $100 for replacing the toilet/toilets in their single family residential home, depending on whether the replacement toilet is 1.6 gallons per flush or 1.28 gallons per flush.

Our water source: Gwinnett County water comes from Lake Lanier, which is currently well below its full pool level due to drought conditions and water releases required for downstream users. View a five-week forecast for Lake Lanier.

Returning water to the lake: Gwinnett County has permission to return highly treated wastewater to the bottom of Lake Lanier starting in 2009. The county plans to return millions of gallons a day back to the lake from the F. Wayne Hill treatment plant. The pipeline is now under construction. International Real Estate Council of Georgia - Founded in 1999, the International Real Estate Council of Georgia (IRECGA) is a 48,000-eligable GAR member organization of real estate professionals engaged in every aspect of the industry, including residential and commercial sales and leasing, appraisal, property management and counseling. 10th Annual Duluth Celebrates America

While many others in this area have cancelled their Independence Day Celebrations, the City of Duluth felt it was important to move forward with their annual celebration. Cost cutting measures were taken, but a wonderful event has been planned for you and your family to enjoy. Duluth is known for its patriotism and it is so important to celebrate and thank those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy. So, on Friday, July 3rd, at Scott Hudgens Park off Peachtree Industrial Blvd., come out for an evening of music, fun, inflatables, rides, food and of course a fabulous fireworks display. Julie Hall will kick things off with the National Anthem, then The Woody's (Fleetwood Mac type band) will take the stage, and to wrap things up the Army Ground Forces Band, Loose Cannons, will have you on your feet. Admission is FREE but donations will be graciously accepted. There will be a nominal charge for the inflatables and rides.

Add a few sparks to your Independence Day bash this year! Put on your red, white and blue and celebrate July 4th at the sixth annual Mall of Georgia's Fabulous Fourth event. Once again, Mall of Georgia will light up Gwinnett with a day full of Fourth of July festivities. The day heats up at 2 pm with free concerts in the Village's BellSouth Amphitheatre, continuing into the evening. Children of all ages will be entertained for hours in the Kids' Zone to include inflatables, carnival games, and other family activities. The fun-filled day will culminate with the grandest and brightest fireworks in Gwinnett followed by a post fireworks movie, shown on the main screen in the parking lot. Adults and families are welcome to participate in the holiday festivities, so bring the entire family for an all-American 4th of July tradition. Look for a complimentary shuttle that will shuttle guests from their cars to the main event parking lot from 1 until 10 pm.

Downtown and in every suburb Atlantans are preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July with music, food, fun, and spectacular fireworks displays. Whether you want to be a part of a big party or prefer to stay closer to home to enjoy the Fourth of July fireworks and fun there is plenty for you to do in Atlanta.

Fourth of July Fireworks in Atlanta: Salute to America, Lenox Square Mall
One of the largest Fourth of July gatherings in Atlanta Lenox Square Mall always offers the most impressive fireworks display in town. The fireworks shows in the Lenox Square/Buckhead area of Atlanta began in the 1960's, and have grown more magnificent every year.

The Lenox Firework display promises millions of fireworks in a 20 minute show. Loudspeakers will blast patriotic music throughout the demonstration and a military fly-over will precede the show. The show starts around 9pm, when dusk turns to darkness.

The Fourth of July begins at 7:30am in Atlanta with the legendary Peachtree Road Race, the world's largest 10K with a capped 55,000 runners. Fans and onlookers will line the streets of Atlanta to celebrate and cheer the runners to the finish line.

The evening Fourth of July festivities begin around 5pm in and around Lenox Square. There will be games and inflatable slides and obstacle courses for the kids to enjoy. Hang out in Atlanta all day to enjoy food, activities, and a patriotic celebration.

To really enjoy the Fourth of July weekend, find a high-rise hotel nearby where you can enjoy the Peachtree Road Race, fireworks display, and participants from a luxurious room in the sky. Spend the weekend enjoying concerts, fine dining, and Fourth of July parties.

In the face of declining revenues and the difficulty in raising sponsorship funds, Gwinnett County Government officials have decided the County will no longer organize the annual Gwinnett Glows 4th of July celebration. Gwinnett Glows has been a fun community tradition for two decades, but the old adage "all good things must come to an end" is particularly apt in this case given the current state of the economy.

The good news is that Gwinnett County residents still have a choice of other Independence Day celebrations taking place this year. Many of the events provide fun-filled festivities similar Gwinnett Glows, such as food, music, games, and, of course, fireworks.

Here are some places in Gwinnett County and around metro Atlanta where you and your loved ones can celebrate the independence of our great nation on July 4:
