The Manhattan Declaration- How we CAN make a difference.

My good brother Bob did this blog post a few weeks ago and I missed it. I consider this very important for everyone who wants what is right and just and moral to sign and support this. Bob, I clicked on the link and signed it.

This came across my email a day before Thanksgiving, and I would have posted it had it not been a time I relish spending with just my family and those we invite into our holiday gathering. During these times, nobody uses a cell phone, computer or anything that takes our attention away from OUR time together. It's a very simple, few page document, stating how we feel about where our nation should be heading, especially in such dark times.

In the past, I've had some disagreements with how Focus on the Family has gotten their message out and some of the tone they have used at times. After reading this very carefully, I feel it's an important step and attempt to unify the Body of Christ in a way that exudes love and compassion and should offend no one. With the exception of the powers of darkness. This is non-denominational and non-partisan motivated and a wonderful way to start bringing us back to the root of all our problems, the fracturing of the family unit and the lack of love for each other in our society.

I urge everyone who reads this to click on the link "adding your name" and put your stamp on it. All together we are much more powerful than those who oppose us. Love and Blessings to each and every person who takes the time to read and sign this. And love and Blessing to each who doesn't. Nobody is excluded from His great love. Nobody is that special to not be loved by God.

Dear Friends,

On the eve of Thanksgiving, as millions are gathering to express their gratitude to God for His myriad blessings, it's fitting that we pause to discuss a historic development within the American church.

As many of you already know, I, along with Dr. Dobson and more than 150 Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant clergy, academics and organizational leaders, recently signed a remarkable expression of collective Christian conscience and commitment. It's called the Manhattan Declaration, and it's intended to make clear a significant point: As Christian Americans who believe each person's life is a gift of infinite worth, we have an urgent, ongoing responsibility to continue standing for biblical principles in the public square.

This past Monday's Focus on the Family® radio broadcast featured a discussion about the purpose and goal of the declaration. Joining Dr. Dobson on the program were two great friends of our ministry, Dr. Robby George and Chuck Colson, two of the primary drafters of the document. I was honored to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Robby and Chuck at the Washington, D.C., news conference unveiling the declaration last Friday, but I was unable to join their radio conversation. Given the magnitude of this document, though, I'd like to share with you now why I was so eager to sign it--and why I hope you will, too.

It is important, first off, to note that the Manhattan Declaration is not a partisan or political statement--I shared the podium last Friday at the National Press Club with Republicans and Democrats alike. Instead, it addresses and elevates four specific areas of universal consensus. Some have referred to these as "threshold issues," meaning they represent the foundation of our faith and the pivot point from which everything else flows. This is the bedrock. If we can't agree on these areas of doctrine, everything else will be of reduced value. These four areas are:

1.    The sanctity of human life.
2.    The sanctity of marriage.
3.    The protection of religious liberty.
4.    The rejection of unjust laws.
We have been committed to these baseline principles since Dr. Dobson founded Focus on the Family in 1977. Our conviction on these matters runs deep; motivating our movement has always been the heartfelt belief that these principles are not ours, but the Lord's, and that they promise to help and heal a broken world.

The document is a fresh and lively presentation, a renewed rallying cry to those who have been engaged in this historic effort of spiritual and cultural conversion. This is not a manifesto for culture war; it is a prescription for cultural change. It is also a thoughtful invitation to those who might be sitting on the periphery, perhaps hesitant to join this effort, maybe because they've never been fully aware of the consequences of inaction.

As a unified body, we are acknowledging that our faith is strong and redemptive, but it's not necessarily a comfortable and easy pursuit. Standing up for our beliefs can often come at great cost. But as Dr. George highlighted at last week's news conference, even the secularist philosopher Socrates once posed a relevant question Christians should easily answer today. "Is it better to suffer an injustice," he once asked, "than to commit it?" By affixing our signatures to the Manhattan Declaration, we are answering an unequivocal "yes."

Although many American Christians understandably feel under assault, the degree of faith-based domestic persecution cannot compare with the ghastly violence perpetuated against believers in other parts of the world. In the Sudan, for instance, hundreds of thousands of Christians have been slaughtered not because of what they're doing, but because of the One in whom they believe. It is a wise people who act to protect the freedoms they enjoy.

And so I ask you to join me and my friends and colleagues in embracing and standing up for these crucial biblical principles. How? You can start by reading the document, in its entirety, by clicking here. What I think you'll notice is that, in addressing the issues noted above, The Manhattan Declaration is an excellent example of achieving the balance of Truth and Grace required of us as followers of Jesus. This is a document that exhorts us to champion Christian truths in a Christian manner. It stands for something.

Then, after you've read the declaration, consider adding your name to the list of signers--and urge your friends and family to do the same. We are all imperfect. But if we honor God by promoting biblical principles, resisting our sometimes insatiable and admittedly prideful motivations, He will honor us.

Will AARP's membership numbers be dropping?

Today at my coffee club table at McDonald's I brought up that I will not be renewing my AARP membership. I just turned 53 a few days ago and first joined AARP when I hit 50.

Actually, I decided this when AARP first endorsed the notion of a public health care option. Several at the table chimed in and said I will not either. Some of these are former democrats who are as fed up with Washington as I am.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why AARP would endorse this health care bill that takes funds away from medicare. All of the seniors are on medicare and if money is pulled out of medicare it will directly affect the care given and paid for by medicare.

Referral of a friend to my Realtor in Destin!

A couple of months ago, I wrote a blog article about a fantastic Realtor in Destin who helped me buy a condo at the Destin Pelican Beach Resort.

Well my good friend and Realtor, Scott Etter has done it again. I referred a good friend and close neighbor in Dyersburg,Tn to my Realtor in Destin with the specific purpose to buy a condo at the Pelican Beach Resort.

David traveled down to Destin about a month or so ago and looked at several condos in 3-4 different resorts. Scott also showed him my recent purchase. David decided that if it was good enough for Mike then it was good enough for David.

By this time the market was red hot for these condos and there was not much left on the market. They made 3-4 offers but those contracts were rejected because of higher offers or recently negotiated offers.

Scott and I discussed strategy and we decided that they should place some back-up offers of some Pelican Beach Resort condos currently under contract. I have been a Realtor since 1992 and I consider Scott Etter one of the finest,ethical and knowledgable Realtors in the business. Two weeks ago the listing agent on one of the condos under contract called Scott and told him a contract had failed and his back-up contract was next in line. Scott and David then completed some paperwork and this 1 bedroom unit #1005 is ready to close sometime this month.

What is ironic is out of about 340 condos at the Pelican Beach Resort(beachside), my friend and neighbor(1/4 mile down the road from my house) is buying the condo next to my unit #1004.

I survived Black Friday at Wal-mart!

My wife talked me into going to Walmart this morning at 2am. Let me say that again, we went to Walmart this morning at 2am.

This was my first Black Friday trip. I could not get out of it by saying it is too early as I get up sometimes and go deer hunting around the same time.

I stood in the 32" flat screen tv line, my wife in the notebook computer line and my two daughters in the Kodak camera line.

I got the tv, my daughters got the cameras but my wife struck out on the $199 notebook. You could not tell Dyersburg,Tn is in a recession.

Prayer Request for a dear friend!

I have a close friend and business associate named Robert Singleton. Not only is he in the construction business but he is also a Church of Jesus Christ pastor.

He has a brain tumor that the doctors say cannot be operated on and chemo will not remove. My wife and I and our kids were at McDonald's yesterday morning having breakfast before church. Robert and his wife were also there and he insisted on coming over to our table and asking us to pray for him right then. We prayed for Robert's healing and right after that the thought hit me to ask my spiritual friends here in the "rain" to do the same.

I have read and commented on testimonies here where God healed one of your loved ones. I am asking you to go to the Great Physician to pray for a healing for Bro. Robert Singleton. I really appreciate each of you and know that you will pray with me in agreement for a healing.

My wife and I along with our two daughters and several members of our church's youth group went on a youth retreat this past weekend.

Wasn't the weather beautiful here in the mid south? Our group went to Lebanon, Tennessee which is pretty close to Nashville. During the day on Saturday we spent our time at the Cedars of Lebanon State Park. This is a beautiful park with lots of walking trails and other outdoor activities.

We spent the night at a nice motel and had a devotional every night. Here is one of the songs we sang that really touched my heart. I went to youtube an borrowed this video and song for you to enjoy.

Who needs a search engine marketing specialist when we have ActiveRain?

Two days ago my wife called me and said she just talked to a nice gentleman on the phone about one of our outside blog sites. He stated that he just ran across it and could help her put it on page one of Google for a few key search terms. I told her if he called back to tell him thanks but no thanks my husband is taking care of that.

About 6 weeks or so ago I started a new outside blog to advertise a vacation property for rent. I then purchased a custom domain name just for that blog site. I picked out the name www.destinpelicanbeachresort.com because that is one of the key search phrases I wanted to rank high on.

I faced a few challenges with this new domain name. The first one was getting the CNAMES and ANAMES right to point to my outside blog. After a couple of trial and error days that was finally overcome. The next challenge was getting links on other websites to help with search engine placement. I submitted to several blog directories and added reciprocal links back to them. I also put links to my new site on my websites and created reciprocal links back.

After about 2 weeks of having all these links and after 3-4 new posts I still did not find my new site indexed at all on Google. I then did a post here on ActiveRain asking for advice. As you will see in the comments for that post that Margaret Woda told me I was probable in the Google sandbox. In a private e-mail she told me I might be there for 2-3 months.That is not what I wanted to hear! I also did a few ActiveRain posts with links to my new site. By the way, those ActiveRain posts indexed well on Google and many are still there!

I kept doing new posts(with pictures titled with good key words) and working on my links and after about 3 weeks my site showed up on page 14(out of the sandbox). I was ecstatic! Another post and another link and I came up to page 8. Two days later is when that guy called my house. I told my wife just wait because what I have learned on Activerain is going to pay off big time!

Yesterday I looked and here is what I found on Google for that key search term.

Update: Nov 18, 2009 I checked ranking a couple of 3 days ago and I had slipped off first page to page 10. Not sure if that was caused by a post I did that day or changing some color on the blog page. I removed the post and changed color back to original. checked again this morning and I am now on 9th page so moving back up. If anyone has any ideas of what is going on please share. I will be back on the first page for key search term in the near future.

Update: Nov 19, 2009 I just checked my ranking for destin pelican beach resort search term and I was on page 9 so I looked at my blog again and figured out my problem. My title did not include Destin. I changed that and withing 5 seconds I was back on page one-I plan to stay there:)

Today is Veteran's day and I would like to salute all veterans across the United States and here in the Dyersburg area.

If it were not for our veterans, we would all be speaking German. If not for our veterans, we might be speaking Russian or Chinese. What other country has the liberty we all have in the United States?

Our country is built on the sacrifice by all our veterans and I am proud of your service and proud to be an American. Our country will return to greatness it once again. It takes times like this to remind us of what is important including personal responsibility.

I need advice to get my custom domain name and outside blog indexed and ranked well

Over the last 2-3 weeks I have been working on a new outside blog and about 10 days ago bought a custom domain name to permanently point to it. It took me over a week to figure out the Cnames and Anames.

Now that I finally finished the DNS work I need to get the website picked up by Google.

I have several links to it from my other sitesand did submit it to google and several blog directories.

What else would you recommend that I do? I picked the domain name with the plan to get on the first pageof google with that search term. I appreciate any and all advice. Here's the link to my site.

I came out of Google's "sandbox" after about two weeks and have been climbing up the rankings everyday that I post fresh information on it. It just hit page one for search term destin pelican beach resort. I did submit it to several blog directories and added links to it from activerain posts and also from my websites.

Destin church on the beach!

My family made a business trip/vacation to Destin,Florida lat week and we always visit this great small church there. On Sunday morning the preacher announced that we would have evening services on the beach at Beasley Park in Ft. Walton.

We were also asked to bring a picnic supper. We met more of the people at the church and enjoyed the fellowship. After eating under the pavilion, we all moved to the beach for the singing and lesson.

After singing several contemporary worship songs, Brad the preacher spoke a few minutes. He informed us that we were sitting on the only beach in the area that used to be a "black only" beach. He said that with tears in his eyes and said he regrets where this nation once was in regards to integration.

Government is wasting millions of dollars with government backed mortgage foreclosures!

About 2 months ago, Fannie Mae changed their policy so that only owner occupants could purchase their foreclosures during the first 6 weeks of the listing. Of course Hud has this in place already for their foreclosures,

I am sure that Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae will soon follow suit.

However, this is for naught since the listing agent nor the potential selling agents are allowed to turn on any utilities prior to the offer or closing.

How many potential homeowners are willing to purchase a property without knowing if everything is in working order? I know that for Hud properties we are given an inspection report but I have found some many things wrong that were not addressed in those reports.

Freddie Mac in conjuction with HomeSteps is offering potential homeowners a 2 year home warranty if they purchase. But, they are not allowed to inspect property with utilities on.

I am the primary listing agent for Wells Fargo foreclosures in my area. One of the first things I am asked to do is have all utilities turned on. Owner occupants are buying some of these properties and at a higher price than investors are willing to pay.

Two weeks ago, I showed an owner occupant a Freddie Mac foreclosure and the first thing my client told me was lets make an offer subject to a home inspection. I told him we could do that but could not turn on the utilities. He then told me what good is a home inspection without utilities on? I agreed with him so he thought a few days about the 2 year home warranty that would go with the sale. While he was thinking, an investor negotiated a successful contract. Do you think that investor paid close to what the house is worth? I don't think so! The government is giving away "our" money to investors!

Whats the answer?

Give those government foreclosure listings to several "local" seasoned Realtors.
Require those local Realtors to turn on all utilities.

Dyersburg foreclosure market is starting to turn!

Today I went to show a Fannie Mae foreclosure but the listing agent told me he has a contract as of last night. I then asked him about another Fannie Mae foreclosure and he told me that one also has a contract above the list price.

My client was wanting to make an offer on the house this morning and before we found out the deal was done they asked me how much to offer. I told them that they need to offer about $5000 over the list price.But, we were too little too late.

We are still seeing many Dyersburg foreclosures but the sales prices on the lower priced ones are starting to creep up and the higher priced ones(for the most part) have already gone up.

So folks, no more low ball offers for Dyersburg foreclosures. Our economy is recovering and home prices stabilizing.

There still some deals out there but you just have to be the first one there. Call me or my staff to get there first for Dyersburg foreclosures or Dyersburg real estate.

Does your website supplier compete with your website?

Over the last several years I have been content with homes.com as my website designer and host. I now have two websites with them.

Yesterday I got a call from someone at my website host wanting to help me redevelop one of my websites to make it more "sticky".

My first website is www.mikefrazier4homes.com. I have been doing pretty well seo'ing my website but notice that homes.com comes up higher for some search terms and basically they are just offering a mls search from a feed they take from me or the other homes.com customer here . I did write a blog post making our mls available to anyone and it came up higher on Google than my website host for search term Dyersburg MLS Search.

How can I benefit from someone making my site more "sticky" when my host is offering to let anyone search the entire Dyersburg MLS without registering? I know that other sites like Trula also offer our MLS searches.

Frankly, I believe my best bet is to continue blogging and offering more detailed information. I know that Google loves fresh content so I will continue down that road on my blogs.

Any advice would be appreciated! BTW, my other homes site is www.dyersburgrealestate.info

The economy here in Dyersburg has been very slow for the last few months but appears to be waking up.

Many of the plants have survived by lay-offs but now some of those have started calling back laid off workers.

Onw of my renters at Twin Oaks apartments is a "big cheeze" at a plant across the river in Hickman,Arkansas and he just told me his plant is now hiring. He works for Kender Morgan which is a company that is contracted to load barges on the Mississippi river for Nucore Steel. He did tell me they are hiring through a temporary agency in Blytheville,Arkansas called Dawson Temporary Services. Sorry I do not have their number.

Nucore Steel is doing much better but not sure about them hiring right now. Another plant close to Nucore Steel that has been hiring is Roll Coater. They take roll sheets of steel from Nucore and apply a paint covering on one side. I have talked to some who have just gotten hired at that plant.

I have also been seeing want ads in the local paper for jobs in the Jimmy Dean plant in Newbern.

Another plant here in Dyersburg that has been increasing production in last few weeks is the Quebecor World Color Plant. I have renters working there.

I have yet another renter(another big cheeze) working at the Eaton Plant in Newbern. He just told me they are getting ready to call back quite a few laid off workers as their business is definitely picking back up.

Jobs Update: I closed the sale on a house today and the buyer told me Briggs & Stratton were going to start up hiring again in short order. Briggs in located in Newbern,Tennessee on Highway 77.

Jobs update 10/29/09: Tenaris(steel tubing and pipe) in Armorel,Arkansas(near Nucore Steel and Blytheville,Ark) is now hiring according to someone there at the plant. I also understand another plant close by to Tenaris and Nucore is also hiring. That plant is called IPSCO(make round steel tubing).

Just found this picture at home from long ago so thought I would share it with my friends.

The lake we were fishing in is now part of "the Farms golf and country club" which is a very nice area of Dyersburg,Tn to live in and really the only place we still have new construction in this down economy. Those houses average $200,000 and up. I just closed one yesterday for $214,000.

That is me on the right. Still great fish to be caught today!

My friend is scared of Realtors in general-Self Dealing?

I have a friend whom I confided in that I was buying an investment property in another state and using a Realtor. He told me he was thinking of doing the same but was worried that all the Realtors there were "self dealing"!

In my opinion, the sub prime meltdown has sent the self dealing real estate agents(refuse to call them Realtors) scurrying away chasing the money in other professions.

Because there were not a lot of Activerain Realtors in the area I am purchasing in, I spent 6 months looking for the right Realtor and know I made the right choice. In my case, I relayed the actual experience I have had with this Realtor and made sure my friend understood that my Realtor is very professional and not self dealing! I since have invited Scott Etter to the Rain and he is just now getting his feet wet here.

Actually, it is pretty easy to get a feel for the character of an Activerain professional by:

look at the groups he or she is a member of
See if they are active on Activerain
Read their blog posts
Read the comments they leave on others posts
Look for someone with the same passion, ethics and professionalism you or I aspire to

Swindler uses my office to cheat my business associates

Jim Frazier dba Advertising Associates came to my office over a year ago offering to give me new presentation folders on which he solds ads.

What he did was use one of my offices to call businesses (some of them I recommended) and ask for a time to come by and discuss an advertising campaign.

He would then meet with the business person and make the pitch for a nice ad on Mike Frazier and Carousel Realty's presentation folders. He said the ad is only $300(upfront) to cover the cost of printing,etc.

By my count he talked 15 business people into this scheme. He told them the ads would come out in 6 weeks and now it has been over 9 months or so.

He also claims to be very conservative and supportive of the tea party movement.

Please remember this name and the scheme he uses to make his living.

The local police are trying to locate him right now!

If people will just Google him I am sure this post will be very visible for some time to come. Blogging just might catch this guy! Maybe include his name in your comments:)
