This time of year we all reflect on our many blessings and try to find ways to give back to our communities.....

Coldwell Banker First Realty decided Hospice of Carteret County was their charity of choice this season.

December 3rd kicks off the 2009 Festival of Trees which is an annual fundraiser event chaired by Carteret General Hospital. Funds raised during the following 7 days help Hospice of Carteret County. Local businesses, service providers, schools, families and clubs sponsor trees and decorate to the theme of the year. This years theme is Holiday Paradise and our tree is " Coastal Living ".

Many of us have experienced Hospice first hand and know how remarkable and the services were to comfort our loved ones.. I have . It is an honor and a special time to have our office, Coldwell Banker First Realty, participate in this fundraiser.

When you think of Coastal Carolina, you may think sandy beaches and palm trees. This cow is part of a herd less than a mile from my home in Morehead City. It's cool to have cows mooing and rooster crowing in the morning while living a coastal life! The farm is situated along the Newport River which offers quite the view for this fella!

So, in Real Estate we have Sellers and Buyers.

Sellers are easy to "see into " as we preview their home and understand their lifestyle, taste and style of living by noticing their personal furnishings, color choices and sentimentals. We know more about them by seeing their surroundings. Sure makes our jobs easier when finding them a new home doesn't it ?

Buyers are quite different! We hear about their tastes, lifestyle and preference for home criteria. We often choose the homes we are going to show from these remarks. Many of us slip in listings that are general to their criteria but considered great for the area. Many times we end up selling them a home quite different from their original expectations don't we ?! Regardless, we go on their verbalization of what they are looking for and never get to see the home they are moving from.

My point is we can easily get sucked into sticking our foot in our mouth if we aren't careful. When showing homes we need to stand back and allow for the buyer to place themselves in that space ( and for us to not negatively comment about - colors, features, layouts or finishes ). Remember we haven't seen their homes- how they live or what their personal preferences are ... More listening, less vocalizing our opinions at this point!

Why you say ? Well, take Jack my English Bulldog for example! To me he is the cutest thing on Earth! To the local Highway Patrol that stopped me yesterday at a road block for license checks.. well, to him Jack wasn't that great. The officer literally told me 'that is a face only a mother could love!" INSULT! Ouch !

Let's be sure to point out mechanical or structural issues you detect during home showings ( because you are professional and look for items that could harm a sale) ..but.... let the beauty remain int the eye of the buyer/ beholder.

North Carollina ( Finally ) Bans Texting while Driving 12-1-09

Although teens have been banned from this practice for the last two years, the updated North Carolina law comes into effect December 1, 2009 prohibiting all drivers from texting while driving... Horray!

This has been a concern of mine for quite some time as I have been at close "call" with a driver not paying attention that nearly collided with me on the road traveling at 55 mph. Very scary.

It is quite the era for "instant everything" but please remember the safety of others and put into reality all the horrific accidents we've seen on TV related to TWD (texting while driving ). Talk to your kids, share this with your friends and most importantly---take this law seriously. It could be your life saved or the lives of others around you.

I Am Going to Jail....For A Good Cause !

The community has "turned me in" and I am headed to jail 7-29-09
for the Muscular Distrophy Association Lock Up.

I need your support !

I will be sitting in Jail for Joseph Howe who is ten years old and lives in Carteret County.... Joseph needs our support. The "Lock Up" for MDA fundraiser supports research for causes and cures to 43 neuormuscular diseases. Funds also help provide wheelchairs, leg braces, physical therapies, clinic visits anda fantastic MDA summer camp for kids.
