Learning Contribution from an Accountant

The MCA in our office (this is the accountant for our company) recently announced his goals for the market center. They included items regarding costs & budgeting, but more importantly included wanting every agent to feel welcome and a part of the team. He had set goals specifically for the office staff to not only be helpful to the agents, but actively seek out ways to lend a hand and engage each individual agent within our office.

WOW! This had a massive impact on me. For our accountant, our "numbers guy" to step up, go above & beyond any job description and take an active responsibility in making our office feel more unified & supportive not only impressed me, but also inspired me. What an example of leadership!

Am I doing that? Am I being that person? Because of my position as a team manager, I support & consult agents every day. But, how hard would it be to step it up just one level and take that extra moment to specifically ask how I can help those around me? To make sure that everyone is feeling supported. Yet on the receiving end I believe it would make all the difference.

Matthew Ferry teaches us that ALL success if through our relationships with others. He teaches that the times we are most successful in our own lives are when we set aside our agenda and genuinely focus on contributing to others. We need to start connecting deeply with everyone! Connect with them, ask them what's going on in their life, what their goals are, and determine what you can do, RIGHT NOW to help that person get what they want. Your intentions & goals will come if you are spending your energy helping others get their intentions & goals. Find out who people are. Find out what they are committed to. Leave your agenda behind. See how you can make a difference today.

What You Expect, You Get

Tony Robbins teaches us that we will rise to the expectations of our peer group. While he uses this as a caution in deciding who we spend out time with, I am learning to use it as a reminder to be aware of what I expect from others. Couldn't we equally use this tool to help those around us rise to a higher level?

As a manager of a real estate team I certainly have days when I am reactionary and frustrated. But if I am expecting laziness, corner cutting & excuses I have no one but myself to blame when I get them. Rather than the pushing & forcing to get a better result, I am realizing that I have to step up and do my absolute best to set the standard and then expect those around me to rise to the challenge.

I don't expect good agents, I expect great agents. I don't expect low production, I expect awesome results and positive motivated energy. If I treat the agents on my team with the encouragement and acknowledgment a top producer deserves, won't they be more likely to behave as a top producer does? As the leader of a team it is my responsibility to make sure I am not limiting my team members with my own limiting beliefs.
