      <title>Adventure on the Rogue!!</title>

Gold Beach is a 30 minute drive north of Brookings and is where you can JET BOAT on the Rogue River. It was a very chilly morning and everyone had jackets and/or sweaters on to keep warm. It was a bright sunny day and I knew it would get more than just a little warm once we were up river just a few miles. Our pilot, Tom Biggs, was well informed about the local area and specifically about the Rogue River. He has piloted a Jet Boat since 1975 and he is accomplished at spinning tall tales and relating local folklore, which makes the already beautiful trip more informative. He took the time to point out various wildlife living on the banks of the river, and even stopped so that we could take pictures. We saw three Bald Eagle nests and several of the young eagles that had been born this year. They were fabulous, and much bigger than I had believed them to be. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;img src=&quot;http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/1/5/1/3/3/ar118767198333151.jpg&quot; height=&quot;250&quot; alt=&quot;Rogue River&quot; width=&quot;420&quot; /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We powered thru white water, riffles and eddies and long pools of beautiful slack water. As our trip progressed we could feel the pristine rhythm of the river as we sliced through thundering rapids and coasted through gentle shallows where our pilot, Tom, would stop so we could enjoy the natural inhabitants of the Rogue ecosystem - bear, deer, otter, and eagles. We also saw blue heron, osprey, and turtles that were taking in the sunshine on the river rocks. And of course, we saw fish. Our river pilot, Tom, informed us that although there are two major runs for the salmon and steelhead there are fish in the Rogue all year round. He said that you can catch Chinook and Coho salmon, steelhead, brown trout, cutthroat, golden trout, catfish and in the lower part of the river there are still sturgeon. The Chinook and steelhead run in the fall and spring to spawn upriver, and there is also a Coho run in the fall. Since the Rogue is one of eight rivers in the United States designated as wild and scenic it will always be a protected area.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;img src=&quot;http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/1/5/3/2/2/ar118767207522351.jpg&quot; height=&quot;394&quot; alt=&quot;White Water&quot; width=&quot;420&quot; /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We were not the only adventurers on the river, there were several groups of rafters that we saw during our trip. New listings also increased 10.6%.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Year-to-Date Trends&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Comparing January-April 2007 to January-April&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2006, closed sales were up 7.5%. Further, pending sales&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;increased 9.8%. The number of new listings also rose&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;a slight 1.7%.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Appreciation&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Comparing the 12 months ending with April 2007&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;to the 12 immediately prior, average sale price fell&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;5.4% ($314,000 v. $332,000).       <title>STILL ON THE JOURNEY!!</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have recently have been doing a study that looks at the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and I learned so much from it. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I never really understood that the trip from Egypt to Israel was only 12 miles of a straight walk. And it took them 40 years to make that trip because they kept wandering in the desert. When you look at all that happened to them during that time, they made so many unwise decisions that led to painful consequences over and over again. For many of the Israelites the DREAM of entering the Promised Land would not be realized. This learning process was not something that they enjoyed, but after finally learning to honor, trust, and follow the path that God had for them, they were able to cross over into Israel and it really was into the Promised Land.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I have been reading two books that have really helped me to begin to understand some of the trials that I have faced in the last several years.&amp;nbsp; &amp;quot;The DreamGiver&amp;quot; by Bruce Wilkinson, and &amp;quot;Shattered Dreams God&amp;#39;s Unexpected Pathway to Joy&amp;quot; by Larry Crabb.&amp;nbsp; Both of these books talk about how not one single person goes through life without suffering some kind of shattered dream. When you go through suffering and pain, that is when it is hardest to have faith and continue to develop a relationship with God. That has been so true for me, and I am finding that after so many years it is time for me to discover what God made me to be!!&amp;nbsp; Before I can make any kind of progress and move forward I need to tell people that have hurt me that I do forgive them for the hurt and the pain that encompassed our lives. I was just wandering in the desert trying to forget and not deal with any of the feelings and loss that I had suffered. But the feeling were just eating at my soul and keeping me from entering into any kind of healthy, loving, supportive relationships. I also began to realize that I must ask every person that I had hurt, or harbored resentment against, to please forgive me. I do not know what is going to happen in the future, but I do know that I want to start pursuing whatever dream God has for me.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I read in one of my books the following four truths:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Life includes suffering, but life is good&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&amp;nbsp; In this world, Jesus&amp;#39; followers and everyone else will suffer tribulation. But Jesus has made a way for us to satisfy our deepest desire in the midst of unrelieved pain.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;The cause of all suffering is separation&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&amp;nbsp; We are separated from God - and from our own deepest desire, our longing for God - and we&amp;#39;re therefore deceived into looking elsewhere for joy. That sets us off on the ultimate wild goose chase. Nothing but God satisfies our most profound desire.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;The way to handle suffering is to discover your desire for God&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;.&amp;nbsp; Then everything, both good and bad, becomes redemptive. It moves us toward the God we desire. Enter your thirst. Feel your ache, the very worst ache that throbs in your soul. Face how you harm others, your spouse, your children, your friends. And face your disappointment with them. Eventually, you will seek God for..&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;..........forgiveness of your failure to love.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;..........the love you desire.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;..........empowerment to love others.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;..........hope that one day you will revel in love freely given and freely received in a perfect&amp;nbsp;Community of lovers.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The new life provided through Jesus must be accepted as a gift of love.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&amp;nbsp; We then spend the rest of our days discovering our desire to know God better, and we come to realize it&amp;#39;s a desire whose satisfaction no shattered dream can thwart.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Regard brokenness as an opportunity, as the chance to discover a desire that no brokenness can eliminate but that only brokenness reveals. Remember what brokenness is. It&amp;#39;s the awareness that you long to be someone you&amp;#39;re not and cannot be without divine help.       <title>Specialized Information for Buyers</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;When I first moved to Brookings Oregon there were several things that I needed to know about the community and services that were available for children with disabilities. I am the parent of a wonderful child who has Autism and we had been living in Tucson Arizona where I did not have to search for services, the services searched for us. So when I first arrived in Brookings it was difficult for me to find the information that I needed to put all the services for David into place. It was a long grueling process to find all the providers and locations that these services were located at. Since Brookings is a very small rural community I found out that many of the services we needed were located as much as two hours from our new home. If you have ever traveled with children for any distance, you know that it can be a challenge. Since David has such a hard time traveling for any distance, the two hour trip could sometimes take up to 5 hours for us. I am not sure I would have relocated here if I had known that this would have been such an issue for us. So I have made it a point to have as much information available as I can about the services that are available here for both children and adults with disabilities so that I am able to provide this to potential home buyers. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here are some of the areas that I believe real estate agents should have information available, especially when located in small and/or rural communities.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The local schools and programs that are available for children with disabilities. This includes early intervention programs, pre-schools, elementary, junior, and high school programs. How are these programs run, do these programs provide inclusion for the children with disabilities, and what kind of a reputation do these programs have.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is there an adequate number of doctors, dentists, physical therapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists that provide services for individuals with disabilities (both children and adults).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is there a local hospital. If not, where is the nearest hospital located. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there adequate emergency services available. (ambulance, fire department, police)&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is there a local department of developmental disabilities agency and a&amp;nbsp;local mental health facility.&amp;nbsp;If not,&amp;nbsp;where is the nearest area&amp;nbsp;these agencies are located in.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is there a Veterans Clinic or Hospital. If not, where are the closest located.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there In-Home Health Care Services available.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there services such as: Vocational, Rehabilitation, Adult Care Homes, Independent Living Skills, Job Coaching, Mentoring, Special Olympics, Post High School, Group Homes&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there disability&amp;nbsp;support services such as: Autism Specialists, Respite, Transportation&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are the sidewalks, stores, parking lots, and buildings handicapped accessible&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;I have found that if you have information available on these topics and you are familiar with these topics, it will help potential home buyers to make an informed decision about relocating to your area. It will also make it much easier for persons with disabilities to locate the services that they may be in need of procuring.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As a parent of a child with disabilities I know first hand how important it is that you treat everyone with respect and I believe in &amp;quot;&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.disabilityisnatural.com/peoplefirstlanguage.htm&quot; title=&quot;People First Language&quot; target=&quot;_blank&quot;&gt;People First Language&amp;quot;.&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp; By including information about services that are available to individuals with disabilities, you can help home buyers feel much more confident about making a decision to relocate to your area.&amp;nbsp;This is the kind of information that every individual has some sort of an interest in, after all, everyone will have some kind of a disability occur in their lifetime. It may be at birth or through an accident or the aging process.&amp;nbsp;So be prepared and make sure you are able to provide this information to the home buyers that you encounter. &lt;/p&gt;</description>
