So who is reading your blog posts?

Other Realtors? Potential customers?

The power of the internet is strange and a little scary. Why?

Well, I wrote a blog post (please take 2 minutes to read this) on the death of my uncle recently, a tribute to my uncle - what a surprising man!

I did this to acknowledge his achievements and to put a small record of this in to print.

From this blog post I recieved one contact via ActiveRain from someone who atended the funeral back in the UK and a comment on Activerain from the Reverend who held the service for my Uncle, and used what I written in his final address.

The funeral was held today (10/20/09) in Chalfont St. Peters, Buckinghamshire, England.

So yes, Activerain gets your messages out there! So be careful what you write.

Since I joined Activerain in January 2008, the membership has almost doubled and in my opinion, although not an expert in any way, the complexity and quality of blogs has improved.

With so many blog posts to read, it not supprising that you miss some (well quite alot really). So I thought I would introduce you to a couple that I follow. I have over 80 subscriptions to a varying range of blogs so i hope none of them will be offended if they are not mentioned.

I'm going to start with Jack Gilleland, a home inspector from Ohio. This frequent posts of his "rouges gallery" keep me amused and stunned.

Next on my list is Poppy Dinsey. She is an impostor as you will find out by reading her blog "A thoroughly British Blog"

"a lil bit about beaufort" by Cherimie Crane is a good mix of real estate and life araound Beaufort, South Carolina.

Lastly, one person who with 924 blog post is normally pretty well known around the AR halls is Jason Crouch with his blog from Austin, Texas Austin Texas Real Estate Blog (and other stuff)

Can you drive a golf cart on the streets of Mount Pleasant?

Yes.

If the driver has a driver's license, proof of insurance on the golf cart and has obtained a $5.00 dollar permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Then the golf cart can be legally operated on secondary residential streets and may cross a primary highway or street during daylight hours only within two miles of their residence.

Daytime Burglaries - Charleston General Metro area

We have had several daytime burglaries recently where witnesses have seen the suspect. Their descriptions of the suspect match that given by another witness in Charleston city for one of CPD's burglary cases.

We are looking for a Hispanic male, 25-35 years old, over six feet tall, and approximately 200 lbs.

The suspect's vehicle is very distinctive.

He is driving an older model, white van with multiple blue stripes running lengthwise down the body. On witness said there was a ladder on the back and some type of roof rack. There is damage to the driver's side; the window is apparently broken out and covered with a garbage bag. One witness stated that the suspect had to get into the vehicle on the passenger side; the damage on the driver's side may have buckled that door.

Please be on the lookout for this vehicle.

If you see either the susoect or the vehicle please contact Mount Pleasant Police Department on 843 884 4176.

I don't think it is a 911 call unless you see the vehicle parked and being loaded with a television.

A Tribute to my Uncle - What a surprising man!

My uncle (Peter Langstone) passed away on Thursday 24th September 2009. I was not close to him in any way. As a child we spent the occasional days visiting him and his wife. These experiences were rather boring for a young child.

Apart from family functions we rary met and even as an adult then, had very little of interest to say or talk about. How wrong could I be!

Only after his death did I find out that he worked on designing and build a 1,000,000 bit computer memory in the early 1960's. This was before the invention of the silicon chip which revolutionized the computer industry.

But that was not his most impressive feat. In the late 1960"s he worked at EMI (the company better known at the time for publishing the Beatles records) with Godfrey Hounsfield (soon to become Sir Godfrey Hounsdfield) and a small team of 2 others, Stephen Bates (programming), Peter Langstone (electronics) and Mel King (mechanics), developing the "Computerised Axial Tomography".

Well, Computerised Axial Tomography is better known as the CT Scanner used in hospitals around the world.

So my uncle was apart of something that has done so much good around the world and yet it was not worth talking about.

Strange what you find out, too late.

So this is my little tribute to Peter and the part he played in loads of peoples lives without knowing.
