I love the state in which I call home. We have diverse terrain with the Great Lakes beaches, forests, urban cities, inland lakes, valleys and hills that were left behind by the glaciers years ago. We enjoy all four seasons.

We have one of the lowest state income taxes yet still have consistently in the best publicly funded school systems in the country. (What a great place to have a company. Talented pool of employees to choose from at every level.)

If you live in Michigan, you can enjoy traveling non-stop virtually anywhere in the world through our beautiful, conveniently located Midfield Terminal Airport located south of Detroit, Michigan. We have amazing colleges and Universities in Michigan. The health care here is phenomenal with the University of Michigan Hospital whose national rating is always at the top of lists and many other outstanding hospitals and world renowned physicians.

We have theatre and culture available for virtually every wallet. As I look for a concise list to share, I found we have over a 150+ theaters including those of the colleges and universities. We are fortunate enough to have the beautifully restored Detroit Opera House where the up-coming season schedule that is offered continues to exceed the already amazing previous schedule. Motown is the home of many talented musicians you may be able to see in many possible venues.

There are a menu of restaurants to choose from with the world's finest and most talented chefs. Main Street Venture restaurants have International trained chefs who provide choices for patrons in Seafood, American Fare, Italian, Mexican and upscale fine dining at their Chop House. Locally grown but world travelled and educated Zingerman's deli, roadhouse, creamery and bakehouse bring the flavors of the country and world to Ann Arbor, Michigan in several different mediums.

Others continue to find some of the treasures we Michiganians take for granted.

We have more golf courses available per person, than any other state.In Michigan, our sports teams, with regularity bring home the roses, the cup, the pennant and even if we haven't won the Superbowl, we play on one of the finest (Ford) Field.

Which reminds me, we have the rich history of the automobile, and the generous grandchildren of Henry Ford who remain committed to Michigan both economically and culturally. They generously support a list too long to provide to theaters, schools, shelters, communities throughout Michigan (nationally too). If you come to the area, make sure you take a day to visit Greenfield Village and Henry Ford museum. We have Detroit Institute of Art and the Detroit Science Center whose extensive collections are enriched further with exhibits they bring in. What a luxury to live in the area!

I look forward to the soon to be changing leaves and weather change. I love the first snow falls and our white Christmases. By February, I can sneak away to a beach non-stop to virtually any Caribean Island or Mexico and be there in just a few hours. On the flight back, as I remember where I packed my coat, I remember in just a short time the crocuses and daffodils will be pocking through the snow and spring is just around the corner. I have a few more weeks to shed my winter coat to get primed for another beautiful summer in Michigan!

According to today's NY TIMES: The vote, 65 to 27, was a major defeat for car manufacturers, which had fought for a much smaller increase in fuel economy standards and is expected to keep fighting as the House takes up the issue.

But Senate Democrats also fell short of their own goals. In a victory for the oil industry, Republican lawmakers successfully blocked a crucial component of the Democratic plan that would have raised taxes on oil companies by about $32 billion and used the money on tax breaks for wind power, solar power, ethanol and other renewable fuels.

Republicans also blocked a provision of the legislation that would have required electric utilities to greatly increase the share of power they get from renewable sources of energy.

Waste facilities still looking

for more space to dump according to a front page story in the Monroe Evening News today, April 14, 2007. For the enitre story:

Instead of finding more places to dump, can the cities and municipalities and places of businesses add paper, plastic recycling containers next to existing garbage cans? Can Environmental make it be a requirement to recycle without allowing refuse companies to charge us more to do it? Especially when they make a profit from the recyclables...Can it be part of the curriculum in all the elementary schools in Michigan?

With a national slow down in real estate sales, many associations, agents and property owners are pooling together to protest and fight an increase in transfer tax in an already sluggish market.

Last week, the senate in Michigan turned down the pop up tax bill that would have kept property taxes from popping-up in homes sold between March 1, 2007 through September 2008 retroactively. The treasury department estimated the loss in revenue to the state over the next 4 years to be 90 million dollars - clearly not something Michigan can afford. We need some stimulation. I'd love to to see no state income tax and an increase in sales tax so everyone pays on consumable goods. Any economists or armchair philosophers have a suggestion or opinion on the possible solutions they care to share?

Spring Cleaning and refreshing the curb appeal to your property

It will eventually warm up here in Michigan (proabably by the end of the week) and this is the time to be getting ready for the influx of buyers who were waiting until spring to begin their search for a new home. This the perfect time to start the spring cleaning.

Lawns should be raked, flowers beds cleaned, windows, garage doors and any siding should be cleaned or powerwashed, front doors and shutters (if any) should be freshened with a fresh coat of paint (preferably a neutral or contrasting color). No purples or teals - the property should appeal to the masses. Remove any dead trees. This will let possible buyers know that the house has been maintained and cared for. Too busy to handle yourself? Call your real estate professional. We can always recommend the best and most reasonably priced in the area.

STUDY SUPPPORTS REALTOR TECHNOLOGY SKILLS CRITICAL

A recent report from California Association of Realtors echoes the need for Realtors to invest time and marketing dollars into online efforts.

According to the report:

· 92% of Internet buyers found their agent on a Web site

· 63% found them through an Internet search engine

• 0% of Internet buyers found their agent through brochures, flyers, yard signs or mailers to their home

"It is crucial for real estate professionals to understand how buyers and sellers are approaching real estate," said Nacht. "The data clearly shows that the Internet is the primary vehicle for accessing decision-making information in this industry. A blog can help Realtors communicate their value to their local communities while increasing touch points with prospective clients."

Digital cameras, virtual tour software, contact management systems, e-marketing, treos and blackberrys, laptops, bluetooth technology and laptops are basic tools required for agents to be successful in todays marketplace.
