PORT ARANSAS, Texas - The Texas General Land Office (GLO) announced in a Press Release on Thursday that a newly formed company Baryonyx successfully won the bidding for two offshore wind farm leases. The leases are located off the coasts of Mustang Island and South Padre Island and could become the biggest offshore wind farms in the nation.

The Corpus Christi Caller Times reported that the 500+ foot tall wind turbines would be visible from the shore of Mustang Island.

Suddenly, he came face to face with the giant shark on Alister Street in Port A. He survived the encounter and has the gift receipts in his wallet to prove it! I heard a neighbor say that living in Port Aransas has helped her daughter's allergies quite a bit! I was curious as to how in the world that connection was made. So, she mentioned the fact that the winds predominantly flow over hundereds and hundereds of miles of open water so it is very clean air and she asserted it has more oxygen too! That is why many people who visit Port Aransas experience a break from their allergies.

Tropical Storm Edouard missed Port Aransas!

Hurrican Dolly gave us lots of rain two weeks ago and we have the mosquitos to prove it! But younger brother, Tropical Storm Edouard (Edward if you speak English) stayed well north of Port Aransas today. In fact, the weather forcasters gave us a 60% percent chance of rain for today..but somehow that whole scenario did not play out. We are high and dry. Beaches are clean and ready for visitors! Come on Down!

73rd Deep Sea Roundup is Success Depsite Rain

The largest saltwater tournament on the Texas Gulf Coast was held July 3-6. It is a fundraiser for scholarships, youth and community activities. The Port Aransas Boatmen, Inc. sponsors the annual event.

757 entries were filed for the offshore event down from the all time high last year of 807. In addition, the Piggy Perch Contest for the 12 and under group had the largest showing ever, with over 300 entrants. Some grandchildren were cheered on by grandparents who had fished in the tourney as youngsters.

Excellent fishing offshore on Father's Day2008! Limit on Snapper! The fishing was great and so was the company. Ten hours in the Gulf fishing seemed like 5 minutes with Captains Wayne and Kenneth Kite.

Voting was the topic of the day at the Beach Lodge. Hillary, Obama, McCain???? Who would take the party nomination? It all seemed so important until one walked through the door to the Beach Lodge. After a few comments one direction or the other, folks seemed to just relax, enjoy the view and drop politics from the conversation. Once seated, one could see for miles out to sea today. Unlike last night when the wind was howling and the sand was blowing, today, primary day the weather has been great. Take a break to visit the Texas Gulf Coast sometime soon!

The weather is perfect today for sailing today! It is so exciting to the see the Elyssa up close. Her rigging was perfect and sales were furled but looked very clean and new. She is well cared for and sailed by a group of volunteers from Galveston. They sailed her down to Port Aransas for the weekend and then on to Corpus Christi for a week.

She is the official "Tall Ship of Texas" and wonderful to see up close. You can see her berthed at the Texas Seaport Museum, Pier 21, Galveston,TX most of the year.
