The West of the Trail neighborhood of Harbor Acres is seeing increased showing activity. Located off Osprey Avenue near downtown Sarasota, this close-in community near Sarasota Memorial Hospital has been a hot Sarasota neighborhood for many years. Architectural Elements and Accents in Sarasota Neighborhoods

In my Sarasota neighborhood, architectural elements and accents abound by my own definition: "Creative uses of fountains, birdbaths, wrought iron scraps and statuary". On many of my walks with Snuffy Smith, I snap pictures of the neighbors' fountains for blog articles and decorating ideas. On rainy days, the "ideas" folder gets a workout.

Surfing Google this morning, the term "architectural elements" was defined as "Architectural elements are the unique details and component parts that together, form the architectural style of houses, building and structures" on Wikipedia. Surfing right along to "architectural details", the Google results include sites about high-end architectural lighting systems, including custom glass, wood or metal products, decorative moldings and architectural ornamentation.

Create a mood in your garden with a unique fountain. Give your homes' entrance pizzazz with garden statuary. Find an old column at a garage sale and use it to display a China pot featuring one of Florida's gorgeous orchids or trim some bushes and add your best clippings to the pot. Add two wrought iron sections on each side of a sliding glass door. Design a garden gate and have you handman install in a day. Arhictetural elements add interest to your decorating and the ideas are endless!

What's your definition of what I call "architectural elements"? Do you give your decorating style a special name? The sky's the limit in terminology in this department.

In Sarasota neighborhoods, residents are very creative with their architectural styling. Each to their own, I might add, in some non-deed restricted communities. In communities where there are neighborhood restrictions, you'll find professionally landscaped detailing with fabulous fountains featuring cascading waterfalls as well as lagoon pools with statues creating beautiful tropical vistas.

Sadie and Cooper are regulars at Southside Village Pub. Sandy and I stopped by for a pizza after a long day working on Sarasota real estate last night. We were working with some wonderful customers who are looking for oceanfront property and were reviewing their appointments for tomorrow while sipping a glass of Pino Grigio. We chatted with Bob, Sadie and Cooper’s owners who was at the next table while Snuffy Smith visited with Sadie and Cooper. Later another neighborhood friend, Tony joined us.

Southside Village, West of the Trail, in Sarasota is a great place to meet new people, visit with your neighbors and enjoy visiting with Sarasota’s well-behaved doggies who are welcome at most restaurants in this area – outside of course.

Southside Village Pub is located at 1812 South Osprey Avenue, Sarasota, Florida. The Pub is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday until 11:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday, you can feast on pizza from 4:00 pm until 11:00 pm.

The Mid-FL Regional Board released some good news for the real estate market in Sarasota today. Pending sales for February are the higest in three years. According to the Sarasota MLS 611 single family homes and 171 condos were under contract.

About four years ago, my graphic designer for my Sarasota FL real estate website, did a video slide tour of Sarasota for me. It may have been long than four years since I don't remember anything about YouTube being available when we created this tour. My Sarasota video tour was created for a CD mailing peice to be sent to out of state customers who were interested in Sarasota real estate. Before I knew it, I was mailing out at least 10-12 CDs per day. Business was very brisk and staying on top of preparing CDs, labeling and mailing was taking it's toll so I took down the offer from my website.

About four months ago, I got the bright idea to re-create the slides into a video tour for Sarasota real estate on YouTube. I already had a professional voice actor in place, the slides were ready so I went to work. The new Sarasota real estate tour which lasts almost 6 minutes has gotten 427 views on YouTube and a shorter 4 minute version called Sarasota Florida's Crown Jewels has gotten more than 1,000 views.

Buying a Condo in Sarasota? Ask Your Real Estate Agent If Pets are Allowed!

This past three weeks, I've been nursing a family member, Snuffy Smith. Snuffy has only been a part of our family since 2004, but we now say that we live in Snuffy's house. He's the center of my universe, and how I sold Sarasota real estate or functioned without him is beyond me. Snuffy Smith took my heart right away. Over time, my son, Scott, who is bipolar, was won over by this bundle of black fur too. Neither of us knew how much a little dog would take over our home. Bipolar disorder isn't fun for the one with what I call "the gene from hell" or for the caregiver, but I can tell you this little firecracker has saved us both so when Snuffy hurt his back recently, went on steroids, it kind of rocked our world.

Because so many real estate customers have pets that are important part of their home, I want to reiterate how important it is for a real estate agent to ask their customers the right questions. In this regard, agents should ask their buyers about the number of pets and sizes making the move. All condominiums in Sarasota have different rules and regulations regarding the number of pets and the sizes allowed in a condo. Many condos allow the owners to have a pet or two on a restricted basis, and others allow none. Most condos do not allow tenants to have pets.

If you are buying a condo, tell your Realtor the facts so later you don't find out that Snuffles or Restless can't make the move with you. Don't rock your world by buying a condo without checking out the rules first!

What's Your Favorite Beach Music?

When I was a child growing up in Greenville, MS, my friends' and our family's beach of choice was Destin Florida. Once I went away to college, my LSU and Ole Miss sorority sisters all headed to Daytona. In the 1960s, I married and moved to Charleston, WV and the beach destination was Myrtle Beach where I developed a love for shagging and beach music. Dancing to the music of the Embers, the Drifters and the wonderful Tams, we shagged on the boardwalk, we shagged on the beach and at Fat Harold's. I loved the area so much that I lived in Myrtle Beach for a couple of years in the 80s.

Real work called, and, before I knew it, I was living and working in Atlanta. This time my beach going contemporaries were heading to a different beach destination -- Hilton Head. Only a 5 or 6 hour drive from the city, I spent many years visiting friends and dancing to beach music once again, same songs, different beach.

In 2000, the real estate bug hit me, and I left Atlanta for the sand arriving in Sarasota to the beaches of Siesta Key and Longboat Key and another selection of beach music. I never hear the sounds of SC beach music here. Now it's all Jimmy Buffett! I do love "Cheeseburger in Paradise" whether it's at Burger King, Wendy's or listening to Buffet sing it.

I played around on MySpace yesterday and added some favorite beach music to my profile. Take a look. My favorite beach music is still "I Love Beach Music" and "Be Young Be Foolish, Be Happy!" What's your favorite beach music and what's your beach history?
