A few months ago I shot some aerial photos for the Jim Christensen Lakeshore Marketing Group--Brainerd Realtor

If you plan on doing your own aerials: 1. make sure you can open the window on the airplane you hire, 2. set your camera mode to aperture priority, iso to 400 and f stop at about f5.6 so you can have a fast enough shutter speed to make sharp images, 3. for lenses, something between 70mm-200mm is good for close ups of houses, but if you want wide shots you will also need something in the 30mm-50mm range. I used an 18-200mm for these shots, 4. bring along a satellite image from Google Maps, and have the property marked so you know how to get there, and go over everything with the pilot before you take off, 5. make sure your camera strap is around your neck.

Great Room Shots

If you are photographing an interior with a large window, but are not able to capture the scene through the window, you can either set up several strobes to brighten the room (usually the best, but most time-consuming method) or you can wait until evening when the exterior lighting is even with the interior lighting. You will probably need to put the camera on a tripod.

A third option is to take 5-9 pictures at different exposures and combine them in Photoshop or Photomatix....

After a kind of slow winter, things are picking up around here in Brainerd. The temperatures are still pretty cold but I did a bunch of tours for several different real estate agents, a builder and a resort this week. It feels good to be busy again.

Monday: A nice house on Lake Ossawinnamakee for Jim Christensen of Kurilla Real Estate one of my biggest customers.

Wednesday: A residential tour for a long-time customer Bill Grunewald of Edina Realty. We also had a booth at the Greater Lakes Area Assoc of Realtors vendors trade show. Everything went well.

Thursday: In the morning a residential tour for Chad Schwendeman who was my very first customer and still one of my biggest. In the afternoon I did three tours right in town for Sarah Sellnow of REMAX. Another great customer.

Friday: Two for Amy at Grand View Vacation Properties. One was an awesome house just down the road from Grand View Lodge...
