On September 1^st, 2008, Labor Day will be celebrated all over the country. Whether you’re a construction worker in the South, or a dentist out West, workers everywhere are honored for their time, effort and expertise in which contribute to the maintenance of our country’s economy.

This year, as our economy struggles, we unite as a country everyday to pull forces and work harder. This year, on Labor Day, we recognize each other as fellow Americans that sacrifice our time, effort and money to build our economy back to its comfortable, safe status.

I work for Stanley Homes, a third generation custom home builder in Melbourne, Florida. I meet new people every day in our 5 different communities. Each resident that I familiarize myself with has different career goals, but each resident having the same ultimate goal; to work hard and budget expenses with a positive attitude until things start to settle.

I am hoping residents in all of our Stanley Homes Community can join us for a Stanley Homes Labor Day Picnic to celebrate each other, to give each other hope and to each other a pat on the back. The Indian River Lagoon: An undiscovered treasure

With the kids out of school, I really enjoy all the time I get to spend with them. Last week when we decided to get outside and enjoy the Florida sun for a whole day, we thought of a handful of ideas for places to visit. Our first thought was a typical one for Floridians; a visit to “the Mouse” or another theme park. With Orlando less than an hour away from our new home in Ashley Oaks, a theme park would provide us with all the adventure an active family of 5 could handle! We also considered a drive to Cape Canaveral to see the NASA launch a Space Shuttle right in front of our eyes. But when we heard that an awesome estuary was only a short walk away, we decided to pack up the kids and check it out.

It’s called The Indian River Lagoon and it’s beautiful. Really! Many of the neighbors in our Stanley Homes neighborhood can view the lagoon out their front windows, but we didn’t have to travel more than a few blocks to see the water. Plus we enjoyed the walk together, surveying the new available homes. And our little one picked some flowers along the way.

The Indian River Lagoon was sparkling when it came into view. I had read earlier that it is the most biologically diverse estuary in North America. Our children even got into it, learning the history of the lagoon and how local pioneers used to take a ferry when traveling across it.

The whole day was a wonderful experience that I strongly recommend if you live in the Melbourne area. Try to take a day off to spend time with your children. Near us here at Ashley Oaks, there are a couple of parks right on the Lagoon. Besides being an educational experience for us, the kids and I spent the day having fun and bonding.
