SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN THIS WEEKEND

Tomorrow, Saturday, December 12th Santa will be coming to Cromwell CT. All children be on the look out.. santa will be coming down your street bringing/tossing candy (probably) canes to all children out and about. He will be covering the WHOLE town...EVERY road/street. How is he doing this? He is going with the help of the fire department. He will be on a fire truck with the siren going. So have your coats and hats on.. and cheer him on as he comes by.

I'm not sure when he will be on your street/road, but I'm sure if you parents contact the fire department they *might* be able to give them an idea as to when.

This was such a great hit last year, that it is being held again. I received calls on and off for the last few months looking for more information on this event.

Most of us like shopping initially, but then.. the running around for that one gift that you just can't find for that someone special can drive you nuts. Now you have the opportunity to get it all done in one day... at one location. How terrific is that?

This Friday, December 4th from 4:30pm to 9:00pm (or until you drop).. LOL. You will be able to shop for all your holiday gifts under ONE roof at Woodside Intermediate School, in Cromwell, CT. There will be over 60 vendors, so you will have a lot to choose from. Here are some of the items and/or vendors that will be there.

Jewelry, Handbags, Pet Accessories, Home Goods, Pampered Chef, Toys, Spa, Books, Art, Domestics, Sports, Cosmetics, and SO MUCH MORE.

Last year there were cookies and goodies to try. I came away with a recipe for truffles that was to die for.

Don't like shopping, but like raffles... there will be those there too.

Thinking this will be too much, you will need a *coffee/refreshment* break? That has been covered too... these will be served as well for the weary shopper, so you can get back to all the vendors.

Spend an evening shopping with friends (unless you are looking for a gift for them), and have fun and get everything accomplished in one night, in one location.. It doesn't get better than this.

Recently I worked with a client that was looking to buy a condo. He knew pretty much what he was looking for and when it came to locating his *new home* it didn't take long at all. This was a refreshing change. Everything was going smoothly even with the seller's side.

Where the problem lied was with the paralegal at his attorney's office.

She just did NOT know what she was doing, and it was causing my our client undo stress. He works a job that needs his undivided attention, and did NOT need to be bothered by little matters, or ones that did NOT need to be directed to him to him in the first place. For instance, the master policy for the condo complex was needed. This makes sense, but the paralegal wanted my our client to get it. It was assumed that it was in the condo docs (resale package), I explained how to acquire it, and that if anything else was needed to direct to myself and not to bother my our client. When I took the burden off my client, he was greatly relieved.

I believe the whole process of purchasing or selling a home should go smoothly for our clients.. they have enough on their minds to take care of.

From then on every thing went well..even the closing went smoothly. The only thing left was getting him his copy of the closing documents. Not living near the attorney's office, and with the attorney preferring NOT to mail them, I volunteered and picked them up, then drove them to my our client.

Much to my surprise, he had a gift bag waiting for me..... I thought I would share with you what was inside......

Inside ***was*** yes they are gone now.... 12 huge strawberries covered in chocolate.

The note read: Valerie this is the least I could do for you for going above and beyond for me and making my condo buying experience a wonderful one...... Ken

This blog is a shout out to Jessica working at the Starbucks on 500 South Broad Street in Meriden CT. Last Wednesday, I was in Meriden for a walk through before a closing. I stopped at Starbucks for a much needed Venti coffee. That morning the town of Cromwell informed me not to turn on my hot water because it was not hooked up correctly when the new hot water tank was installed. Being the day before Thanksgiving and no hot water in sight until *maybe* Friday morning.. I was livid to say the least.

When Jessica heard the whole story, she told me that the coffee was on her/Starbucks that day. THANK YOU JESSICA!! I will now make a point of going there more often. So, I'm hoping that a nice gesture like this will not go un-noticed, and anyone else please stop by here too. This is where the customer rates over the company.

I hope you had a GREAT Thanksgiving Jessica... you made my day.

I posted the other day on how the Cromwell Fire Department is selling Christmas Trees and wreaths on Court Street in Cromwell Connecticut.

I just found out that they are helping you out today by having breakfast ready for you when you come by. Between the hours of 9:00am and noon, they will be selling egg sandwiches with cheese and your choice of either bacon or ham. This with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.... all for the low price of $3.99.

You now can start your day off on the right foot... have breakfast, get a Christmas tree and wreath... and then continue on your day.

Where else can you get a 6 to 8 foot tree for $30.00?????

Last week I mentioned about Our Companions here in Connecticut that is looking to build a new facility in Ashford CT to help with "homeless" animals. They are a NO KILL facility, and are looking to expand. They received 40 acres in Ashford as a donation.. and are trying to collect funds so they can break ground. They need $1 million... with this, I took Molly (above) if you can see her with Santa... she blends in so nicely, and got her picture taken. The Cromwell Fire Department is selling Christmas Trees and Wreaths on 82 Court Street. When I stopped by today, they had quite a few to choose from. They will be selling these trees and wreaths today, Friday, November 28th through Sunday, November 30th from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Then again next weekend both Saturday, December 5th and Sunday December 6th from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

I will highly recommend if you live in the area to check out these trees and wreaths. The money raised will help support the fire department.. You don't have to cut them, and I'm sure your children (if you have them) would love to pick one out.

For any size tree the price this year is $30.00. Yes, the picture above is from last year.. and I wanted you to see that some things have gone down in price. The trees start at around 5 feet and go up to 8 feet.. all are ONLY $30.00. These are fresh cut (within the last week) from Somers CT.

The wreaths this year are all $15.00. Not $25.00 to $60.00. They are not decorated fancy like this year.. thinking you would like to do that yourself and save money. They will all have a red bow and pine cones.

So, come on by and get a tree and wreath.. and help the community at the same time.

For a while I've been craving a *good* New York Style deli sandwich. However, to travel 2 hours to get this meal seemed a little extravagent.

A friend of mine knowing this took me to Rein's Deli (founded in 1972) in Vernon CT. I was blown away. Walking through the door you instantly felt that you were transported to the Big Apple. There is a life size Statue of Liberty in the middle of the diningroom. The smells and the display cases were if I was standing in SOHO, not Vernon CT.

I ordered a corned beef on rye.. oh my gosh was it great. My friend had the Hebrew National traditional kosher pastrami (is this a mouthful?) No pun intended.

This has got to be the BEST authentic Jewish deli in Connecticut. Oh, and their garlic or sour pickles.. Hhhmmmm. Yummy! You can buy a bucket of pickles to take home with you too... I did. They also have homemade soups to go as well. There is no reason why you can't find a meal here to satisfy your deli cravings.

I would go back to Rein's Deli in a New York minute. So, if you are anywhere Vernon CT, and can't make it to New York, I would highly suggest checking them out. Or if you are in West Springfield Massachusetts they have a restaurant there too.

I'm getting hungry.. think I might go there the day after Thanksgiving for another New York Style deli sandwich... want to meet me there?

The Bethany Lutheran Church here in Cromwell CT is having their 2nd Annual World Relief Fair, tomorrow, Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 9:00 am to noon.

They have bought hand made items from around the world to help these places, and are now selling them to you. So, come on by and purchase an item. This are original and unique items.

They will have jewelry, handmade baskets, nativity made out of wood, stone and other assorted materials.

Not only when you purchases these items will you get a handmade item, but you will be helping others from all of the world. I can't think of a better way to say Merry Christmas.

The Cromwell Junior Women's Club Presents:

The 35th Holiday Craft Fair

This event is being held this coming Saturday, November 21st, 2009 at the Cromwell Middle School at 6 Mann Memorial Drive, Cromwell CT. So, come on by any time between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

There will be over 80, YES 80 local crafters. This is to include jewelry, face painting, photography, wood crafts, ornaments, candles and home decor. This is only 7 vendors.. there are 73 more to check out. Baked Goods will also be available, and the ladies of the Junior Women's Club have baked these. WOW. So stop by. You can meet friends here and make a day out of it. You can participate in fundraising raffle baskets too (featuring an Apple iPod).

There is a $3.00 Adult Donation that goes to benefit the local community. Children 12 years of age and under, along with seniors over 60 years young are FREE. In prior years these funds have gone for scholarships, for new playgrounds, supplies for the classrooms, etc.

This past week was my younger son, Jakob's birthday. Yesterday we celebrated (again) with 2 games of Lazer Tag, and then ice cream for him and his friends at Mortensen's Ice Cream in Newington, CT.

They have over a dozen *homemade* ice creams and at least 15 different toppings to choose from. All of them had a blast with all the choices. They a 12 scoop sundae, 24 scoop sundae.. and the ultimate

I think this has got to be one of the LARGEST sundaes ever. So, if you have a birthday party, little league, sweet 16th celebration.. anything where there are a lot of people you can have one MAMOUTH SUNDAE... oh, did I mention.... you get to keep the wheelbarrow?

HISTORY OF MORTENSEN'S

Mortensen's was founded in 1915 with Elmer Mortensen delivering milk door to door by horse and wagon.

After having farms in Simbury, CT and Bloomfield, CT, he and his wife Joan moved to their farm in Newington, CT. Along with their seven children, they soon made Mortensen's A familiar landmark on the Berlin Turnpike. The whole *FAMILY* of cows were hard to miss grazing on the roof of their dairy Bar.

In 1976 they opened their present location, and began to make their own homade ice cream on the premisies.

Just as Elmer persisted in processing the best milk possible they are dedicated to serving the finest food and all natural ice cream anywhere!

ELECTION RECOUNT HELD TODAY IN CROMWELL CT

As most of you know, I worked the polls at the election here in Cromwell, CT this past Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009. The new selectman was the biggest question, along with who would be filling the positions of the Board of Selectman. There are 6 seats on the Board of Selectman here in town... and there were 11 people running for this position. When you voted you could only choose up to 4 people. This was stated on the top of the form and was overwhelming for some people. There were four on the Republican Ticket, four on the Democratic Ticket and three on the Petioning Line to choose from.

At the end of the evening, when everything was tallied, there was only a 9 vote difference for the sixth place position on the board with Allan Spotts being the foreseen winner over Frank Emanulele Jr. However when the count is that close, a recount must occur and this was a unofficial result. The recount was held today at the townhall today from 10:00am until 4:00pm. I volunteered along with other members of town to manually retabulate the results if necessary.... there were over 3,000 ballots in all to go through in all.

At the end of the day Allan Spotts still won by 6 votes over Frank Emanulele Jr. instead of 9. But here is the kicker. Six ballots could NOT be counted because they were filled in incorrectly... anywhere from 5 to 7 candidates choosen on each one. Therefore NOT knowing which 4 the voter truly intended on voting for, the ballot was not counted. Frank Emanulele was on just about each one of them.. and they were NOT tabulated. This could have made the total votes for the sixth place position a tie if the ballot was filled in correctly in the first place.

Moral of story.. it pays to read the directions, otherwise it could cost you more than you think.

Ann is a resident of Cromwell Connecticut since 1982. Ann is married and has one child. Of course she also has a dog and 2 cats. She a Registered Nurse with over 16 years of hospital experience. She has a strong understanding of the impacts of the cost of health care through her current work in the health insurance industry. Ann is sensitive to the environment and is a member of Cromwell's Wetlands Agency and the Cromwell Clean Energy Task Force. She currently serves as an alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Her other attributes are being a former Cub Scout leader and a past member of the Cromwell Junior Women's Club. Ann also is the current Vice Chairwoman of the Cromwell Democratic Town Committee.

Town Government: •Explore whether to hire a Town Manager •Identify services that can be transitioned to self service transactions •Provide residential trash pickup through a contracted service •Continue the existing blight program •Support an ethics ordinance. •Support health interventions and help interpret health directives in the case of an H1N1 outbreak

Land Use/Conservation: •Encourage and support the development of a Cromwell Land Bank to preserve open space. •Ensure that the next POCD will maintain property values while allowing for future responsible development.

Education: •Support the integration of new technology in the delivery of education •Support the Board of Education to improve higher test scores •Support our school sport teams, they've helped promote Cromwell. •Encourage the development of programs to allow students to learn from the new solar roof panels.

Once again I would like to say *Thank You* to all the Democrats that came out on Tuesday October 6th for the Runoff between Steve Bayley and Tony Varricchio.

As you are aware of Tony won the spot on the Democratic Ticket for Board of Selectman, but only by 8 votes. However Steve at the very beginning planned his stragety correctly and thought ahead. Realizing this might occurred he did NOT want to be off the ballot for November. He is on the PETITIONING CANDIDATES TICKET.... 2C.

The Board needs new energy, new ideas and new faces to keep progress moving forward and not a return to stagnation, petty politics and increasing taxes.

Steve has a website!!! How many other candidates have this? This itself shows that he is thinking in the times and technology of today.. not yesterday. Imagine what he can achieve once in office.

I just found out about this event, and I hope it is not too late to get this out there for people to participate.

SHOP-OR-TREAT

For parents with children that live near the WestFarms Mall (on the Newington/Farmington) line in Connecticut. This mall is opening their doors to all children for a new twist on "trick-or-treat".

This is being hosted by Damon Scott of 96.5 TIC-FM and Mike Stacy, of 100.5 WRCH-FM.

Bring your little globin in a costume (please leave masks behind) to the ultimate Halloween celebration... over 100 retailers are participating in this event.

You can also learn how to make gooey slime and sweet cotton candy. There will also be pumpkin decorating and face painting.

There will even be a give away, where you can enter to win a vaction trip for 2 to Austin, Texas to see Chris Daughtry live in concert. (Contest rules will be at customer service)

The winner will be announced at 4:00pm on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 after the event is over.

So if you have time today with your little ones, stop by and have a safe Halloween celebration.

AT THE TOWN HALL GYM Join the Cromwell Recreation Department for a night of fun at their GREAT PUMPKIN PARTY. This event starts at 4:00pm and ends at 6:00pm. This is open to the residence of Cromwell only. If you have a child up to the age of 10, bring them over to the town hall gym dressed in their favorite halloween outfit (excluding masks).

When the children come into the gym they will receive a goodie bag. They will have fun, create crafts, and play games... Pin the Tail on the Cat for one, ring toss, are two that I know of, with a whole bunch of other games geared to Halloween.

Refreshments will be served in the lobby, and Mr. Gym will be there playing children's songs.

No registration necessary. Just COME-ON-DOWN!!!

There have been many blogs on the $8,000 First-time home buyers tax credit.. but what about the $1,500 tax credit on energy saving products?

Did you know the average home is responsibe for twice the greenhouse gas emissions as the average car? That the U.S. uses more than double the amount per capita of the United Kingdom when it comes to electricity?

To help reduce our consumption, for 2009 and 2010 years, there is a $1,500 tax credit when you purchase energy saving "Energy Star" products. This amount is for both years. If you use $900 in 2009, you only have $600 available for 2010.

Over the past 3 weeks I have purchase a new AC unit and a new water heater.. trying to do my part in conserving on electricity.

If you are looking to see what products qualify for this credit I found this site to be very helpful www.energystar.gov/taxcredits. There also are various rebate programs offered by states and local utilities. To know more on these visit www.dsireusa.org to see what is available in your area.

Did you know that a programmable thermostat can save you roughly $180 a year on energy bills? There are a lot of Do-It-Yourself things that can help save you money and you don't have to spend alot to get them done. HARVEST PORK DINNER FOLLOW-UP

Last night was the Third Congregational Church's Annual Harvest Roast Pork Dinner. The event started at 5:00pm and continued to 7:00pm.

The picture below shows just how busy it was... and ... it was NON-STOP.

On the menu was Roast Pork (obviously) with mash potatoes, gravy butternut squash and green beans. Then of course there is dessert....where you have a choice as well. There was apple and pumpkin pies and ice cream to choose from. Coffee and tea were made available throughout the meal.

Above is my son, Kyle and Larry serving coffee... yes, Kyle tried some.

Wondering how much food they went through???? Here is the run down.

128 pounds of potatoes

170 pounds of pork

30 pounds of green beans

2 restaurant serving trays of squash (which were donated)

of course with the pork was applesauce.. but they ran out toward the end of the evening on this.

All of this was for the low cost of $9.00 for adults, and $4.50 for children under the age of 10. The same price as last year. With seconds (and thirds in some cases) how can you go wrong? All proceeds from this event go back to the community... such as food for the local food bank, gifts for the needy, and the church's building fund.

Is your mouth watering? Sorry you missed this event.. the dinner will be in February (hopefully) and this will be the annual pasta dinner, with the corned beef one after that.. You have now had a heads up... so great ready and plan for next years dinners.
