Extended Foreclosure Relief for Sandy Storm Victims

DONOVAN AND DEMARCO ANNOUNCE EXTENDED FORECLOSURE RELIEF
FOR HURRICANE SANDY STORM VICTIMS

Additional 90-day moratorium to help FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac borrowers

WASHINGTON – U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, who serves as President Obama’s Chairman of the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force, and Federal Housing Finance Agency Acting Director Edward J. DeMarco today announced that the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac will extend expiring protections against foreclosure actions against homeowners whose properties were damaged or destroyed due to Hurricane Sandy.

The additional 90-day foreclosure moratorium applies to homeowners with properties in states where the President issued major disaster declarations following Hurricane Sandy. The extended moratoriums announced today apply to the initiation of foreclosures and foreclosures already in process.

“It’s all too clear that families need more time to get back on their feet without having a foreclosure or eviction hanging over their heads,” said Donovan. “As we work to rebuild after this historic storm, we’ll do everything we can to ease the crushing burden being faced by those homeowners, many of whom have been forced from their homes.”

“Given the magnitude of this disaster, extending the moratorium on foreclosures and evictions will allow homeowners in the affected areas, and their servicers, the time needed to assess individual circumstances and options,” said DeMarco.

FHA is extending moratoriums for another 90 days on the initiation of foreclosures and foreclosures already in process. FHA is also suspending evictions of persons from properties secured by FHA mortgages in these affected counties through April 30, 2013.

After consultation with FHFA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will also extend the suspension of foreclosure sales and eviction lockouts for borrowers impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The new 90-day extension applies to homeowners with properties or employment within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared disaster area eligible for individual assistance. This follows an earlier 90-day suspension of foreclosure sales and evictions in the impacted areas. In addition to the foreclosure sale and eviction moratorium, homeowners impacted by Hurricane Sandy may be eligible for forbearance, loan modifications or waived late payment charges.

###

HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes: utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination; and transform the way HUD does business. More information about HUD and its programs is available on the Internet at www.hud.govand http://espanol.hud.gov. You can also follow HUD on twitter @HUDnews, on facebook at www.facebook.com/HUD, or sign up for news alerts on HUD’s News Listserv.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency regulates Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the 12 Federal Home Loan

Banks. These government-sponsored enterprises provide more than $5.7 trillion in funding for the U.S. mortgage markets and financial institutions.

Buying A Home

If you are currently in the market for your first home, you probably have lots of questions. You are about to be making an important decision for your future, a great investment of both money and time. I have a wealth of experience helping first time buyers like you make sound, informed decisions. Here are some tips that can help make your home buying process successful:

Tip #1: Do Your Homework
The perfect home won’t find you by itself. The key step in buying a home is doing the proper research. Educate yourself on local schools, neighborhoods, and the kinds of homes available. By reading available materials and talking with experts, you can start to put together your idea of the perfect home.

Tip #2: Start Planning
Most decisions benefit greatly from proper planning, and home buying is certainly no exception. Start a filing system with sections such as home buying, home financing, and service providers. By forming a home buying plan you can more easily focus on the most important factors and help give structure to the entire process. My website is a great resource for property information.

Tip #3: Get PreQualified
Getting prequalified for a loan normally only requires a short phone conversation with a lender, and can greatly help your home search. Prequalification does not guarantee you a loan, but it does provide you with an estimated monthly payment and a price range to use as a guide when shopping for homes. Being prequalified can also often indicate to sellers that you are a serious, prepared buyer.

Tip #4: Look for Value
When shopping for homes, it’s important to consider potential value. Even if you’re not planning to sell the home some time down the line, it’s a good idea to consider the future value of the home. Protect yourself against things like falling prices and gradual shifts in the nature of the neighborhood. You may not think of a new home as a means to make money, but it’s an important investment that requires caution.

Tip #5: Decide What You’re Looking For
Settle on the home features that are important to you (covered parking, hardwood floors, architectural style, etc.) and make an ordered list. Having well established guidelines will help narrow down your search and will prevent you from being shown properties that lack your key amenities. It can help you make the decision not to buy an attractive property that doesn’t really fit your needs. My website has a search feature that allows you to filter thousands of listings based on attributes that you select. If you know you want a brick house with gas heat and a garage, you can get the results you’re looking for.

Tip #6: Relax
You don’t have to make an offer on the first home you see. Make sure to look at other listings in the area to get a feel for the marketplace. When you decide to make an offer on a house, consult with your real estate professional so that all of your questions are answered.

Tip #7: Shop Around for Your Mortgage
Deciding on the financing for your home can be as important as choosing a home itself. The first step is deciding what kind of loan best fits you: a fixed rate mortgage, or an Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM). There are benefits to each form of loan, and your real estate professional can provide you with more information. Next you’ll want to begin to shop around for different lenders.

Tip #8: Protect Yourself
Be careful when signing a contract on a home that allows you to find financing, have the home inspected, and work through any problem areas that may arise. Paying for a quality home inspection is absolutely crucial! You can save yourself thousands in repair costs by being sure of what you’re getting into.

More information for first time buyers can be found on my website, or by giving me a call. I’m confident that I can provide the kind of exceptional service that will make this process an exciting one. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have, I would love to be of assistance to you.

FIRST ZERO ENERGY SCHOOL ON STATEN ISLAND

New York’s First Zero Energy School on Staten Island

P.S. 62, a Net Zero Energy Elementary School on Staten Island

                                                             via N.Y. Observer

A 70,000 square foot building, which is set to open in September 2015, with 444 school seats, will be located in the Rossville section of Southern Staten Island, and it will house kindergarten through fifth grade.

It will be a two-story building with a library, a cafeteria, a gymnasium that doubles as an auditorium, and music, science, and art suites. Not many green details about the project are currently known, except that it will produce as much energy as it uses, and it will serve as a lab to learn about sustainability and energy efficiency.

The 3.5 acre area where the school will be built is currently an unmolested plot of land covered in trees, and locals are lamenting the loss of the wooded area, as well as the changes the school will bring to the community. They’re concerned about traffic congestion on the neighborhood’s narrow roads, parking for teachers and staff, and child safety issues since the area currently has no sidewalks. The Department of Education has controlled the piece of land since 1942, but up until now they’ve had no need to develop it.

...courtesy of Kathleen Furore

St. Patrick was born in southwest England around AD 389, which means this patron saint of Ireland wasn't even Irish!

When he was 15, Irish raiders kidnapped Patrick and took him to Ireland. He escaped and returned to Britain, where he dreamed an angel told him to become a missionary. He became a priest, and in 432 the Pope sent him to Ireland, where he converted the country to Christianity, according to Ruth Moran, manager of publicity & communications for Tourism Ireland (www.tourismirelandinfo.com).

Historians believe Patrick died on March 17, sometime between 460 and 490. After he became a National apostle in 688, Churches were told to honor his memory on March 17th.

The Irish identification with the shamrock even began with St. Patrick. Legend has it, he used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to a pagan king.

The earliest big St. Patrick's Day parades were in New York City and in Boston in the late 1700's.---little suprise, given the large number of families with Irish roots in those cities. Today, St. Patrick's Day festivities happen worldwide (even in Japan)!

Get some great "IRISH" information. Visit my website for more Staten Island information!

President Obama on the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day

     byJosh Cohen

Today marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, an annual celebration of the immense progress made by women throughout the world during the past century. It’s a celebration of women’s social, political, and economic gains – but, it’s also a reminder that the fight continues to achieve greater gender equality, opportunity, and empowerment.

Here is President Obama’s statement recognizing International Women’s Day:

On this 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day, we celebrate the extraordinary gains made by women over the past century—and the women pioneers who made them possible—and we reaffirm our unwavering support for the rights, security, dignity and opportunity of all women around the world. Today reminds us that across countries and cultures, people everywhere, women and men, share rights and aspirations that are universal, among them the freedom to chart their own destiny, to raise their children free from violence and to live in societies that value their voice and respect their will.

History shows that when women and girls have access to opportunity, societies are more just, economies are more likely to prosper and governments are more likely to serve the needs of all their people. That is why my administration has stood up for gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world and demanded an end to sexual and gender-based violence. It’s why we’re developing a plan to promote women’s meaningful participation in conflict prevention and resolution in war torn societies. And it’s why we are working to advance these goals and our national interests by strengthening the role of women in every aspect of our foreign policy. In the United States and around the world, we will not rest until our mothers, sisters and daughters assume their rightful place as full and equal members of a secure, prosperous and just world.

A WEE BIT O' HISTORY

...courtesy of Kathleen Furore

FIVE TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR SALE

By: G. M. Filisko

Working to get your home ship-shape for showings will increase its value and shorten your sales time.

1. Have a home inspection

Be proactive by arranging for a pre-sale home inspection. For $250 to $400, an inspector will warn you about troubles that could make potential buyers balk. Make repairs before putting your home on the market. In some states, you may have to disclose what the inspection turns up.

2. Get replacement estimates

If your home inspection uncovers necessary repairs you can’t fund, get estimates for the work. The figures will help buyers determine if they can afford the home and the repairs. Also hunt down warranties, guarantees, and user manuals for your furnace, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and any other items you expect to remain with the house.

3. Make minor repairs

Not every repair costs a bundle. Fix as many small problems—sticky doors, torn screens, cracked caulking, dripping faucets—as you can. These may seem trivial, but they’ll give buyers the impression your house isn’t well maintained.

4. Clear the clutter

Clear your kitchen counters of just about everything. Clean your closets by packing up little-used items like out-of-season clothes and old toys. Install closet organizers to maximize space. Put at least one-third of your furniture in storage, especially large pieces, such as entertainment centers and big televisions. Pack up family photos, knickknacks, and wall hangings to depersonalize your home. Store the items you’ve packed offsite or in boxes neatly arranged in your garage or basement.

5. Do a thorough cleaning

A clean house makes a strong first impression that your home has been well cared for. If you can afford it, consider hiring a cleaning service.

If not, wash windows and leave them open to air out your rooms. Clean carpeting and drapes to eliminate cooking odors, smoke, and pet smells. Wash light fixtures and baseboards, mop and wax floors, and give your stove and refrigerator a thorough once-over.

Pay attention to details, too. Wash fingerprints from light switch plates, clean inside the cabinets, and polish doorknobs. Don’t forget to clean your garage, too.

When you home is ready, give me a call and we can market your home to SELL. You can reach me @(718) 966-4000 or (347) 415-5295.

A TESTIMONIAL FROM A SUCCESSFUL AGENT

Who was the most influential person in your life in 2010?

Who was the most influential person in your life in 2010?

Speaking Real Estate of course.

In 2005, I received my Real Estate License in New York State. Thought to myself, "I can sell houses". Boy O Boy, did I have a lot to learn. Thank the good Lord, I chose the right Real Estate Agency. Little did I know how much I would need to learn to be a good Realtor.

Working as office manager, teacher, blogger extraordinaire, CMA coach, among too many other duties, was in my humble opinion, a very smart lady to whom I must admit, I owe a great deal for my success.

As a retiree from The New York Times Company with over 43 years of service, I did not want to work 60 hours a week in Real Estate, but I wanted to be a different kind of agent. One that could give a client a personal, very detailed quality service with the sale of their home. Kathy Wynn, was a gift from heaven for me.

She was always available to help me even when on her days off. If I had a new client with a different problem then most folks and I need some advice, she was there to offer options.

If there was some new programs on the net, like ActiveRain, that could bring more buyers to our listings, she would tell us about it, and help us to get not only on page one of Google, but near or at the top of page one.

Too many thing to list here, I just want to acknowledge her contribution to Appleseed Homes and me. Most likely I would not be the kind of agent I am today without her help.

Thank you Kathy.

A job well begun, is half done!

TOTTEN INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL IS 34, Staten Island, NY

Did you know that I.S.34 is the only intermediate school on Staten Island whose building at 528 Academy Avenue was once another school? For 36 years, our building was Tottenville High School which in 1972 moved to its new site in Huguenot.

Tottenville High School was erected in 1935 and 1936 during the era known as The Great Depression and is the sister school of the old New Dorp High School, (now Staten Island Tech.) The mayor of New York City at the time was the legendary, Fiorello LaGuardia who was well known for his reading of the funny papers to children on the radio.

After years of campaigning for a high school on Staten Island's south shore, the cornerstone of the new school was laid in the spring of 1935. The cost of the school was $1,000,000 and it featured a spacious auditorium, large, airy classrooms, and separate gyms for both boys and girls. A motorcade traveled from the Staten Island Ferry to Tottenville carrying Mayor LaGuardia and other dignitaries to the ceremony.

The school's construction progressed rapidly and in the fall of 1936, although the work was not yet finished, the first classes filed into the beautiful modern edifice. Tottenville High School's first commencement from this building took place in January 1937.

During the spring of 1972, events moved very quickly in anticipation of the departure of the high school and the opening of the new intermediate school.

Dr. Anthony J. Polomene, who was appointed principal of I.S.34, moved quickly in selecting his staff. They went right to work that spring and summer to prepare the building for its fall opening. The fruits of their labor were realized in September, 1972 when I.S.34 opened its doors to three hundred and forty-nine, 6th and 7th graders.

In the first school newsletter, Dr. Polomene indicated that I.S.s34's beginnings were auspicious. He credited his hard working staff, the great kids, their parents, and the supportive Tottenville community. He stated the school's prognosis was for an excellent future. From the outset, a common thread pervaded the "old building"- that I.S.34 was something special and that it would evolve into the finest Intermediate school on Staten Island.

Many loving hands transformed the building into a home away from home, a safe haven, a place where children would be ensured of an educational environment, where they would have fun, where they would learn to be charitable, and where they would create a lifetime of wonderful memories. 1972-1973 was an extremely busy year. Traditions such as the school colors (blue and white) and a mascot (the eagle) were chosen. The school newspaper was designed the "Totten Crier", a name which would last until 2006 when it was renamed the "Totten Times." "The Eagle" was the name given to our schools' magazine.

The yearbook was named the "Southern Light" because of the fact that Totten is the southernmost school in New York State. In its first edition in 1974, Dr. Polomene's message to the graduates included references to the "Southern Light." Alluding to the graduates, he said "... Young people, for us, your teacher, you are the Southern Light." He continued, "Be disciples of what you have created... resolve to become beacons of your Southern Light."

From the outset, the "Southern Light" has always been a labor of love on the part of the students and staff members including in its production. From 1974 to 1998, twenty-five volumes were printed in our Graphic Arts Shop under the direction of Mr. Sam Votta.

That first year featured concerts, a five fits festival, a student play "Annie, Get Your Gun", and a staff play "Holiday in Spring." This staff play was written and produced by members of the Totten Community. It was an example of the team work that 37 years later still exists at I.S.34.

Our first science fair, fashion show, and Earth Day were also held in the spring of 1973. The first Earth Day in the United States was held in 1970. 20,000,000 Americans turned out to raise public awareness of the environment and to protest again pollution. Our students spent the day cleaning the community and its beaches.

On January 8, 1973, the Community School Board-31 convened an open meeting. On their agenda was a resolution to name I.S.34R. The names considered were Paul Zindel, Alan Blair, South Richmond, and Totten Intermediate School.

The name chosen was Totten, in recognition of the family which traced its beginnings on the South Shore of Staten Island to colonial times. The Tottens were influential in creating the community which bears its name. They were farmers, fishermen, and merchants. They also were involved in maritime trades, such as shipbuilding, ship repair, and sail making. The Tottens were also responsible for the establishment of the Methodist Church on Staten Island. The played a major role in establishing the lucrative oyster industry in Tottenville.

Totten I.S.34 was officially dedicated on Tuesday evening, April 12, 1974. This historic evening was sponsored by our PTA under the direction of its president, Marie Donoghue. The evening was broken into two parts- "Expo 34-Totten on Display" was the first part followed by entertainment by our band, chorus, drama class, and cheerleaders. As part of our 25th Anniversary celebration in 1997, we recreated the "Expo" idea, calling it "Expo 97- Totten on Display" in honor of the original production. Thursday evening, June 20, 1974, witnesses Totten's first graduation. A total of 148 graduates received their diplomas from School Board 31 member, Michael J. Petrides. The salutatory address was given by Nancy D. DeTeresa and the Valedictorian that evening was Cynthia Olsen. These girls also received the first general excellence award and 24 graduates received the first Totten Honor Keys. This graduation and the one to follow were the only two conducted in our school auditorium.

Totten's first full-term class graduated in 1975. On Friday evening, June 20, 1975, 283 graduates received their diplomas from principal, Anthony J. Polomene. The graduates sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" and the "Grand March" from Aida served as the recessional music. Forty graduates were awarded the Totten Honor Key.

In 1980, Dr. Polomene ended his tenure as principal of I.S.34 to become a supervising principal. In the so called, "Year of the Principal," Dr. Polomene was temporarily replaced by Vincent Gattulo, until the appointment of Mr. John A. Russo was made official. Upon Mr. Russo's retirement in 1990, he was temporarily replaced by Stanley Katzman, until the appointment a few months later of Frank P. Moschella. In 1998, upon Mr. Moschella's retirement, Mr. Jeff Preston became principal. Mr. Preston has been the longest serving principal in I.S.34 history.

Our first two assistant principals were Anthony Palladino and Antoinette DeGaetano. These two very interesting people were followed by ten more assistant principals; Mr. John Boyle being the senior assistant principal at the present time.

Over the years, much of our school's history can be found in the additions of the Totten Crier. The Crier first appeared in April 1973. The paper was named in a school-wide contest and the winner was sixth grader, Teri Maklari, and the faculty advisor, Mr. Arnold Kravetz.

The Totten Crier introduced us to our staff over the years and it covered stories about activities such as Eagle Day, Culture Day, Big Guy's Night, school sports, eighth grade activities, to the choice of friends.

Little Known Interesting Facts About Totten:

Did you know that, Totten- I.S.34 has been in this building longer than Tottenville High School was?

Did you know that when I.S.75 opened in 1986, the plan was to close Totten completely? Principal John Russo, the PTA, and the Tottenville community fought against this plan and won. Did you know that our building will be 75 years old in 2010? The entire auditorium, seats and all were renovated, but the original chandeliers remain. We have been so fortunate to keep these beautiful antiques intact for 75 years.

Did you know that Mr. Mark Cananizzaro, Totten alumnus, class of 1978, was an assistant principal at I.S.34? He is presently the principal of I.S.75.

Do you know that the I.S.34 faculty is made up of nine Totten alumni? They are Anne Verderber (1977), Margaret Kay, (Corrigan) (1978), Anton Updale (1980), Chris Rusciano (1985), Jennifer Barret (Johnson) (1987), Helen Fuscaldo (1991), Tara Wagner (1995), Marie Christina Perremuto (1996), and Daniel D'Eusanio (1997).

Do you know that our first Eagle Day was held on April 19, 1974? Mrs. Ann Coppotelli was our first eighth grade advisor. Our first Big Guy's Night took place April 30, 1975. Big Guy's Night was designed to get the fathers more involved in the activities of our school.

Do you know that our "snack shack" was named by Ricky Davi, beating out the other suggested names such as "Polomene's Palace?" The snack shack was a school institution from 1978 to 2008. Mrs. Jeannette Springstead ran the snack shack for almost 30 years.

Do you know that our graduation in 1975 only had 5 special awards, whereas our graduation in 2008 had 23 awards?

Do you know that Mr. John Boyle claims that the faculty has never lost a student- faculty basketball? A member of the student team in 1989, Eddie Joyce, claims that his team beat the faculty. Unfortunately, this cannot be confirmed.

In 2001, after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, the Totten community, mobilized to assist those who were directly affected by the tragic events of that day. Thousands of dollars were raised for the American Red Cross and other organizations. Cards, poems, and supplies were provided as well. Our yearbook was dedicated to the brave souls who were taken that day and our annual Eagle Day shirt was a reminder of how great it is to be in America.

This history is dedicated to more than 12,000 children who passed through the doors of Totten and the Totten staff members who played such a significant role in modeling them.

This information was provided by Phillip Verticchio.

IS 34 is one of the intermediate schools on the South Shore that feeds from P.S. #3, where some Prince's Bay children attend.

Prince's Bay's LEMON CREEK PARK, Staten Island, NY

Lemon Creek, which empties into Prince's Bay, has been known by several names over the last few hundred years. In 1830, the freshwater stream was known as Seguine's Creek, and later, as the Little North River in 1895. Shortly thereafter, the name of Lemon Creek began to appear on maps, and it has remained, although the origin of this unusual name is not known.

Lemon Creek is fed from a watershed that begins two-and-one-half miles from the creek. The main source is a small freshwater pond near Woodrow Road, known as Porzio's Pond. The water travels over and under ground to Lemon Creek, which carries it down to Prince's Bay, and ultimately to Raritan Bay. The red clay bluffs in the park, reaching 85 feet above Prince's Bay at Mt. Loretto, are part of the harbor hill terminal moraine (a ridge or landform marking the farthest advance of a glacier or ice sheet). A glacier that receded approximately 15,000 years ago created these bluffs, which are the tallest ocean-facing cliffs in New York State.

This property, bounded by Hylan Boulevard and Sharrott, Bayview, and Seguine Avenues, was acquired as a park in 1962, when the City transferred 75.7 acres of land to the jurisdiction of Parks. Additional segments totaling 4.8 acres were added in 1983 and 1984. In 1989 the Seguine Mansion and its 2.1 acres site overlooking Raritan Bay was acquired through negotiations with a private owner. The house, a stately Greek Revival structure built in 1838 by Joseph H. Seguine, reflects the classical architecture and thriving commerce of mid-19th century Staten Island. An additional 22.7 acres of waterfront, acquired from the Department of Real Property, were added in 1995.

A gazebo, adorned with figures of dolphins, turtles, and egrets, offers shade and a nautical view. In the mid-1990s, Borough President Guy V. Molinari provided a total of $652,000 for shoreline stabilization and other park improvements. Molinari provided another $3,565,000 in 1999, and the City Council added $1,242,000, for further waterfront work, shoreline protection, the construction of a boat launch at Bayview Avenue, a shade pavilion, trails with interpretive signs, a footbridge, and a parking lot at Seguine and Bayview Avenues. In the year 2000, Mayor Giuiliani and Borough President Molinari provided a combined $44,200 for minor site work. Wooden benches and tables on a concrete overlook offer a picturesque view of the clay bluffs and the work boats, barges, tankers and cargo vessels churning the waters of Prince's Bay, on their way to the Arthur Kill and Staten Island's Howland Hook cargo terminal or beyond.

The parkland is home to swans, mallard ducks and black ducks, and it serves as a resting point for numerous migratory birds and, in early October, monarch butterflies. One of the only purple martin colonies in New York City can be found in Lemon Creek Park. These birds, which live in open woodlands, are the largest in the swallow family. The waterfront area provides a spawning ground for many species of fish and shellfish, while salt marsh plants such as goldenrod flourish nearby. Although non-commercial clamming is now prohibited for pollution reasons, the Lemon Creek fishing pier, at the foot of Sharrott Avenue, offers the opportunity to cast a line and catch flounder, striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, and others. Hand-sculpted ceramic bluefish added to the foot of the fishing pier celebrate the fishing opportunities and abundant marine life in these waters.

SOME HISTORY ABOUT PRINCE'S BAY, STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.

Prince's Bay is the name of a neighborhood located on the South Shore of New York City's borough of Staten Island and of an arm of Raritan Bay (which in turn is part of the Atlantic Ocean), on which the eastern shoreline of the community is situated. The neighborhood's name is often misreckoned as "Princess Bay" or "Prince Bay;" indeed, the community's United States Post Office officially bears the name "Princes Bay Station" according to the USPS website and directory.

Development in the area accelerated when the southern terminus of the Staten Island Railway was moved from Eltingville to Tottenville in 1860; the Prince's Bay station crosses underneath Seguine Avenue, formerly known as Prince's Bay Road. Primarily a fishing village at first, its oysters were so famous that "Prince's Bay Oysters" could often be found on menus at prominent seafood restaurants in Manhattan, and even London. A large factory, operated by the S.S. White Dental Manufacturing Company, was once located along the shoreline at the foot of Seguine Avenue; at one point, the plant was the largest employer in all of Staten Island, but closed in 1972. In the late 1970s a small shopping center, known as the Prince's Bay Trade Mart, was opened in the building the factory had occupied; but its remote location and inability to compete with the larger and already-established Staten Island Mall doomed the project to failure, and it closed a few years later. The property was sold and a proposed development was planned but, as of yet, has not come to light.

Follow my website for more information about Prince's Bay. If you are looking for a home in this area, give me a call at (718) 966-4000. As an
