When Personal Coaching Turns Weird
The new year always brings renewed interest in bettering ourselves in a variety of ways from physical well being to improving our personal life and even upping our game in the business world. In the past decade there has been an explosion of tremendous proportions in the world of business, work and life coaching and motivation. It seems like every time I turn around I am confronted with a new Coach, Mentor or dare I say it...Guru? So many ways to better yourself with a NEW "proven" plan of action! Often included with many these programs is the ability to have … (112 comments)

keep austin weird: Keeping Austin Scary! - 10/27/10 01:22 PM
It's no secret that people in Austin, Texas love to have a good time and Keep Austin Weird. It is certainly no different at Halloween and if you are new to Austin, it can almost appear like a national holiday! Obviously Austin is a place that not only allows people to have fun but encourages a lot of us to just go over the top. This year is going to be a bizarre fest of weirdness that has something for just about everyone. I've picked out a few of my favorite events that cover the spectrum from somewhat interesting/scary to the … (34 comments)

keep austin weird: Holiday Networking: Please STOP humping my leg! - 12/11/09 11:55 PM

I was recently listening to Jason Crouch's  Social Media Edge  blog talk radio show and his guest Chris Brogan actually used the phrase when discussing a very aggressive person who was vying for his time and business. The fact remains that many people don't seem to have any idea how pushy and irritating they can be (though many do intentionally) in business and social settings. Ironically while I was on office property tour with some of my associates earlier in the day I experienced the same behavior...literally. One of the homes we visited had an English Bulldog as a pet and as I am fan of the breed, … (142 comments)

keep austin weird: Every Neighborhood Has One, This Halloween It's ME! - 11/01/09 05:42 AM

Austin, Texas is really in to Halloween and frankly it's one of the biggest holidays because we do take the moniker "Keep Austin Weird" very seriously! I have lived in the Lost Creek Neighborhood here in Austin for almost sixteen years and we are no different. Situated in the Eanes School District we have a large population of children of all ages so there is usually a good crowd of "Trick or Treaters" of all ages out haunting the night beginning around dusk and continuing to the wee hours or whenever the candy finally runs out! Halloween is a fun … (89 comments)

keep austin weird: Keeping it Weird and Fun at Austin’s 81st Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival - 03/01/09 09:08 AM
Today, as a spectator, I took part in one of Austin's annual rights of the coming of spring; The Zilker Park Kite Festival and as usual it was a blast! The event features hundreds of kites of all sizes, shapes, designs and colors swirling and dancing in the sky above the Zilker Park Polo Fields. There is something for everyone; kite flying demonstrations, make your own kite workshops, kite battles, contests with many categories, trophies, and all sorts of food vendors. Kites are incredibly popular all over the world and Austin is no different and as everyone knows we have so many … (65 comments)

keep austin weird: MANGIA PIZZA (An Austin, Texas Original) SETS NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD!!! - 11/17/08 12:50 AM

This morning I had the pleasure of attending another fun and slightly "weird" Austin event involving local restaurant, Mangia Pizza's attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records, "Longest line of pizzas in the world". Along with my wife, Margaret and daughter Mattie we headed to Zilker Park to hopefully be a part of history. The event was held in conjunction with Meals on Wheels and More to celebrate the  20th anniversary of Mangia Pizza opening for business here in Austin, Texas. If successful, the company would break a world record and after the event, Meals on Wheels would deliver the … (74 comments)

keep austin weird: Halloween Voting Guidelines in Austin Texas! - 10/31/08 08:30 AM
I love living in Austin, Texas. The saying "Keep Austin Weird" is especially appropriate at Halloween and this year is no different.  With the election looming and early voters turning out in droves the local newspaper posted an article on the rules of voting in or out of costume and guidelines about campaigning near the poll sites!
Katie Humphrey of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN wrote that "Ghosts and witches are welcome at polling places today." However, Texas election law prohibits electioneering - advocating for a particular candidate or party - within 100 feet of the exterior door of a polling place. Usually that … (32 comments)

keep austin weird: Keep Austin Texas Weird -What's that all about? (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 10/24/08 06:58 AM
"Wait, what was that, I ask?  My son responds again, "its 107 degrees according to that thermometer at the starting line".  I moan and try to figure out WHY I have agreed to participate with him in the Keep Austin Weird 5K (and costume contest with each entrant issued a pair of "Elvis" sunglasses) at 6pm in the afternoon in the middle of a brutal Texas summer... The event is a benefit for the RunTex Carrozza Foundation, a nonprofit group that provides running shoes, coaching and race entry fees for people with low incomes. Paul Carrozza is also the owner of RunTex, the … (82 comments)
