Westland, Michigan. Did you know that Westland started out as Bucklin Township, then became Lima Township, then became Nankin Township, and then the city of Westland? In 1827, the land which is now Westland, Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Redford Townshipbecame Bucklin Township. Two years later in 1829, BucklinTownship was divided into Lima and Pekin Townships. Lima Township was quickly changed to Nankin Township because early postal regulations said no two counties/townships could be named the same.
