home sales: Existing home sales rise nationwide, fall in South - 06/26/08 04:28 AM
Sales of existing single-family residential properties edged up higher across the country in May according to the latest report by the National Association of Realtors.
It was only the second time in ten months that sales have increased.
The pace of home sales rose 2 percent in May from April, though sales are still lagging 15.9 percent from last year's levels. Overall, sales are down 31 percent from their peak in 2005.
The median sales price for existing homes was $208,600.00, down 6.3 percent from a year ago.

According to a recent press release, nearly one third of adults would consider burying a statue of Saint Joseph in the yard if it would help sell their home in today's market.
While the act of burying a Saint's statue in order to promote the sale of a home can easy be viewed as mere superstition, the practice does have a historical basis.
The tradition began hundreds of years ago in Spain when Sister Teresa of Avila buried medals of Saint Joseph in the ground when she needed land upon which to build convents.
