real estate technology: The Future For Real Estate Agents is Mobile Technology - 08/17/11 04:43 AM
I can remember a time not all that long ago when real estate businesses operated from large brick and mortar style real estate offices.  These offices were filled with big desks, lots of file cabinets, copiers, a fax machines, private offices, a bull pen, they had a conference room, desktop computers, an MLS terminal and a business style telephone on every desk.  In some markets this may still be the way it is but in more and more markets the office dynamics have changed in a big way.
Technology has caused a major shift in our real estate businesses and in … (63 comments)

real estate technology: A Technology Worth Considering When Buying Your Next Laptop - 09/12/10 05:07 PM
How would you like to speed up your next laptop, extend the battery life and increase the reliability of your laptop computer with a single enhancement?  Other than recommending that you buy a MacBook Pro...the next best thing I can recommend is an upgrade to a solid state drive (SSD).  Think of a solid state drive as a traditional hard drive that has no moving parts and works like a flash drive / thumb drive.  They are light, they use very little power and they are very fast.
Solid state drives use less power and are less prone to failure because there are no … (9 comments)

real estate technology: A Technology That Will Change The Game for Consumers - 02/04/10 04:58 PM
There seems to be two entirely different views on the new Apple iPad...some seem to be blown away with the possibilities of it and others seem to believe it is not much more than an oversized iPod Touch. I am blown away by the iPad but not because it is going to replace any piece of technology I am currently using but because the iPad will become an overnight game changer for the U.S. consumer. Imagine millions of people carrying the iPad around reading digital books, listening to the music, watching YouTube, searching and viewing online content, visiting our websites from … (12 comments)

real estate technology: If Santa Could Bring You One Piece of Real Estate Technology for Christmas... - 12/24/09 05:09 AM
I want to have a little fun today with my ActiveRain friends and do some dreaming and goal building.
Let me set the stage...
It is the day before Christmas and Santa has granted you "one" special Christmas present but it must be a tech tool that you will use in real estate.  The cost / value of your gift can range from $300 to $3,000.
What is the one tech tool you would personally wish for and why would you choose it?

real estate technology: Do Most Real Estate Agents Really Need An Office At Their Brokers Office? - 06/18/08 07:20 AM
Most real estate brokerages today are faced with an extremely thin margin of profit if they net any profit at all.  Brokerages are faced with the many financial challenges including their physical office space, the phone systems and the cost and contracts required, the utility bills for these large offices and obviously other general fixed costs.  The question is "What if the majority of the real estate brokerages could operate out of one half the space they are currently occupy today...would that help the brokerage become more profitable?
With the current wireless technology and access through cellular broadband do most agents need an actual real estate office to meet clients?  Do most agents spend … (74 comments)

real estate technology: Presentation Software For Listing Home Books and Marketing Proposals - 02/18/08 08:24 AM
I am looking for a replacement to the old Pat Zaby Prep Software.  I have not been able to find anything that works as slick or smooth as the Prep Presentation and I have looked at more than a dozen vendors with nothing coming even close.  I had never used Prep as a database or a contact manager but I built some really neat prelisting books/marketing proposals with it and I loved the custom home book feature.  Has anyone found anything that they are using today?

real estate technology: New Fujitsu Portable Scanner (the Scansnap's portable little brother) - 11/16/07 06:13 AM
For those of you who love your Scansnap ADF scanners you are about to be blown away by the new Fujitsu S300 portable scanner that hits the street next week.  The scanner is totally portable and does not require power beyond your USB connection.  It scans at 8 pages a minute in color or black and white and it is capable of scanning in either 150 dpi or 300 dpi depending on the scanning format.  Did I mention that it is a duplex scanner like it's big brother scanners?
The retail price is roughly $300 but I was told by the Fujitsu … (14 comments)
